I’ve tried a few AI writing checkers for IELS prep, and VoyaLang has been the most practical for me. The per-criterion breakdown explains why you got the score, not just what it is. The “rewrite at your target band” option is the standout feature—it keeps your arguments but upgrades the language and structure, so you can clearly see what’s missing and how to improve. The free tier is enough to test whether it works for you. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
A couple of small things stood out. First, the free 10-essay limit means you have to be strategic about what you submit. I’d prefer a few more attempts so I could do a more meaningful before/after comparison. Second, the per-criterion explanations are helpful, but they’re still pretty brief; for something like Lexical Resource, even one extra sentence explaining why a particular word choice was flagged would take it from “good” to “excellent.” And, of course, it only covers writing—no speaking or listening practice—so it’s one piece of the puzzle.
