Speed in backup and restore 2. Robust secure configs We could restore an entire VM of 1.5TB to ESXi in about 15 minutes from a local drive to local. We benchmarked against other backup software but nothing is as close to this speed. We run hourly backups and the ease of intergrating them into multiple vCenters is just excellent. Maybe the next step is to actually get a higher tier subscription for malware scannning. Try the community edition for yourself and experience it. **What do you dislike about Veeam Data Platform?** If you're new to the platform. Navigating isn't the easiest. Config is feature packed. Security is so tight you would love to hate it. But better secure than insecure. One small drawback might be the backup size that Veeam creates. They are so massive that you might have to upgrade your datastore just to accomodate the backups. What captured our attention is the convenience of use of Veeam’s flexibility. It is compatible with almost any hardware so there are no limitations. The simplicity of the product setup and operation is outstanding. The fact that the premium platform's DR orchestration feature can be enabled was also especially noteworthy. **What do you dislike about Veeam Data Platform?** We have not tried it long enough to say we don’t like anything because we’ve just bought it. Possibly the immutable backup needs the third-party device. We are in the early states of our implementation and everything has been positive thus far. I would have been even more satisfied if the Veeam licencing was structured in such a way that it included 0365 backups. That is our next pain point that I believe Veeam will be able to tackle. **Recommendations to others considering Veeam Data Platform:** Understand you environment. Identify what your goal is. What do backups mean? Agent backups are great also for targetted backups of specific folders at a higher frequesncy than full backups. Live migration of VM if you don't have a full sphere license. Pretty simple to use, and support will help you fix any issues that arrise with a job as far as errors go. **What do you dislike about Veeam Data Platform?** now that my 10gig network seems to be working at full speed my issues are resolved. When I reached out to veeam, they would not give an exact answer as to why something was bottlenecked and left that to me to hire somebody to explain how the backup could be slow. Anyways, ended up being a storage array I retired and then my backup speeds spead up. **What problems is Veeam Data Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have daily backups of all servers, with synthetic fulls and I also rotate backups to offline storage. I've used multiple other backup products and have constantly been let down due to failures. Veeam has been very easy to implement and connect to backup environments. The documentation is very clear about port usage for secure environments so I was able to connect on the first try after a firewall config. I have used Veeam for over a decade and NEVER had a failure with restores or corruption of failed data. I've only needed support a few times and every time it's always a quick response and simple instructions to resolve. I also use the replication for a DR scenario and when testing it powers on the replica, re-IPs it and configures everything with a single click! **What do you dislike about Veeam Data Platform?** It can get pricey but you do get what you pay for. The licensing is more complicated than it needs to be in my opinion. It may be because i'm grandfathered into the old way of licensing and they're trying to convert me to the new way but the new way is much more expensive for what I'm using it for. **What problems is Veeam Data Platform solving and how is that benefiting you?** My company implemented Veritas NetBackup and it does not consistently backup our domain controllers to my liking and thus I don't trust it. I use Veeam for my DCs and have always had consistent, reliable backups. I also have a remote DR site that Veeam replicates VMs to. ### 32. We have restored both files back into production environments and tested entire VMs with minimal effort and no issues. The setup is very straightforward once linked to vSphere with a service account. We can quickly verify all machines that need protection are part of backup jobs. Offsite copy is similarly easy to set up and allows us to copy data to an offsite DC. On the one occasion, I needed support I was able to get a session set up with support and quickly resolve the issue. With additional features coming, this will remain our go-to for backups. We will be adding 365 backups in the future for all users after recently implementing a test group and were very satisfied with the results. The ability to bring your own storage keeps cost under control and allows us to tailor the process to our environment. **What do you dislike about Veeam Data Platform?** One area that we wish Veeam made clearer was the status of individual backup/copy statuses. Upgrades can leave you out in the cold - especially when they depricate a feature you may use in your enviroment or when they change back-end arcitecture and do not have an easy path the change the method. They provide FAQs related to this; however this can make you feel very uncomfortable moving forward with it. And when it comes to a feature you may rely on, such as Enterprise Manger, it does not support a mixed enviroment. Lastly, licenseing is really only 3 tiers, Base, Premium, and Premium Plus.
