PowerSteering is a highly versatile application for Project Portfolio Management. **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Larry P. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2024 **What do you like best about Upland PowerSteering?** PowerSteering is a user-friendly application that is highly configurable that has met the business needs for over 13 years.The implemantation was provided very quickly by the Upland team once all requirements were communicated in a session with them.The application is used daily. The reporting outputs provide Microsoft Excel as an option along with PDF and others. I use Excel quite a bit when presenting data. API's can alsobe used as an intregration tool. **What do you dislike about Upland PowerSteering?** While reporting is very good, I sometimes find myself looking for how to obtain and assemble the desired information on a report. The support team is there to provide their expertise when I get to an impass. **What problems is Upland PowerSteering solving and how is that benefiting you?** The PowerSteering development team is continually upating their product on a quarterly basis. Much of this is based on customer input and guidance. I have requested timesheet enhancements pertaining to some additonal data capture that is currently being developed. This enhancement will provide improved resource planning capabilities with an adjustable remaining effort in a project from the user. ### 2. The reporting outputs streamline metric tracking. **What do you dislike about Upland PowerSteering?** Due the overall scope of the application it can be a bit cumbersome for smaller projects. However, you can set up different schema for different sized projects. **What problems is Upland PowerSteering solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is helping us keep track of project status and tracking several metrics about our projects. ### 3. Really only makes sense for large enterprises. **Recommendations to others considering Upland PowerSteering:** Consider other software like Power BI if considering for small businesses and freelance users. **What problems is Upland PowerSteering solving and how is that benefiting you?** Queuing Data and customer wait times. Developing customer-focused automated ticketing solutions. Drills down powerful insights from complex qualitative and quantitative data. ### 4. It also provides you with a lot of options to manage data and organize it in a way that is effective and reliable. **What do you dislike about Upland PowerSteering?** I don't like that there aren't many oppportunities to get a discount on the system. I also feel that it requires quite a bit of training to get acclimated to the system. **Recommendations to others considering Upland PowerSteering:** I would recommend power steering for professionals who have to work with large data sets because it although it is comprehensive, it is an effective tool. **What problems is Upland PowerSteering solving and how is that benefiting you?** Creating comprehensive portfolios and data systems to organize and create a system to manage projects effectively to then share information with constituents. ### 5. Also, having everything (projects, time reporting, portfolio snapshot, product ideas, etc.) in one tool has a lot of promise if it can be pulled off. **What do you dislike about Upland PowerSteering?** This power and customization ability comes at a steep cost though in terms of usability, the user interface, and the overall experience of using the tool. For instance, we started to roll out PowerSteering for time reporting on projects for all staff after using a different tool for the last several years. The first reaction from most staff was 'Wow – where do I begin?' The interface is not intuitive and takes a significant amount of time to learn. This is fine for someone who will be using the software every day, but is a large hurdle when trying to drive adoption in the company for anything other than the most basic, mandated data entry. **What problems is Upland PowerSteering solving and how is that benefiting you?** PowerSteering was supposed to provide a central tool to manage our project portfolio and even expanding to include other features (like idea portal submissions from stakeholders, etc.) though we are still early along our journey and haven't been using the software long enough to see if it will really result in those benefits over a period of years. So far we have been able to migrate tasks over to PowerSteering to reduce the number of different applications we have to manage and ask staff to use. ### 6. You can only email timesheet users to let them know they have unsubmitted reports.
