**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 13. Basic tool that requires a different way of thinking

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mental Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2024

**What do you like best about timextender?**

It's not hard to learn when you are completely new to ETL tooling. TX can perform most basic tasks and visually aids in the understanding of stages and dimensional modeling.

**What do you dislike about timextender?**

When you are used to tools like SAP or SAS DI then this could be a downgrade in ways of poissibilities.
- Logging is minimal and using your metadata to create logging is not easy.
- Working with multiple people in one environment can cause problems.
- You can't deploy a single table from DEV - TST. So when a colleaugue made changes in the DEV environment it's likely that those changes end up in test after a deployment. There are options for this like 'guarding' tables but it doesnt always work and it's a hassle.

The most problematic thing for me is that TimeXtender doesn't work with 'jobs' (collection of tables needed for the output of 1 FACT table for example). TimeXtender just shows all your tables and you can group/filter them by using perspectives. Perspectives are more like domains. One table can be hooked up to more than one perspective and one perspective can contain tables in all layers (staging/DSA/Integration, whatever you use). All operations visually happen on the columns in the tabel, there is no 'job' containment with clear oversight of different steps like joins, group by's, filtering, or custom scripts for more complex tasks (custom sql sripts are possible). When a task gets to complex you might need a view which further complicates the visibility of what is happening where. After a year of working with TimeXtender it still feels weird.

The SSL (symentic) layer is a nice feature and they are working out small kinks witht every update. Something to keep in mind is that when working with PowerBI, you need a premium workspace and a live dataset everyone has to have a premium licence in order to view the reports and you have the restrictions (and benefits) of a live dataset.

Connecting to different data sources (SQL/API's/cloud works fine, except xlsx, csv and other flat files. It's possible, but it's a hassle. If your organisation uses a lot of csv's, make sure this can be reduced or you will go crazy with TimeXtender.

**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's visual (lowcode) and the whole ETL proces, from connections untill cube datasources can ben handled in one tool.

The simple drag and drop interface is very intuitive and helps even seasoned SQL Developers build ETL models faster. Customer support is very prompt and and helpful. The extensive data source connection options mean no pre-transforming is needed.

**What do you dislike about timextender?**

Not every filter or calculation is drag and drop, but there are multiple ways of entering code into the model so you can still do everything you can do with SQL.

**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Quickly developing ETL tools and saving humans from writing code.

  ### 36. Good for standard tasks, difficult for more complex tasks.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 08, 2023

**What do you like best about timextender?**

Combining several similar data sources is very easy. People without programming skills can do basic ETL tasks on their own after a short learning period. The TX support reacts very quickly to questions.

**What do you dislike about timextender?**

Error messages are often just forwarded from the tools beneath and misleading. Multiselecting tables or columns is not possible so many tasks have to be done in a repeated way. Writing REST calls with a little bit of logic in the CDATA scripting language is very complicated and debugging the code is hardly possible.

**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Customers without programming knowledge can build their own data warehouse very quickly. Standard ETL tasks can be set up very quickly compared to writing SQL code.

**Official Response from Micah Horner:**

> Thank you for your thoughtful review of TimeXtender. We're glad to hear that our solution makes combining data sources easy and accessible, even for those without programming skills. Your feedback on the quick response from our support team is also greatly appreciated.

We acknowledge your concerns regarding the clarity of error messages, the limitations in multi-selecting tables or columns, and the challenges faced with REST calls and debugging in CDATA. Your input is invaluable in guiding our efforts to enhance user experience. We are continuously working to improve our interface and functionality to address these issues.

Thank you again for your review. We're committed to making TimeXtender even more user-friendly and efficient, and your feedback is crucial in this journey.

  ### 37. Fast data movement easily to learn

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2024

**What do you like best about timextender?**

Easy to learn; Fast creation of data flows; friendly support

**What do you dislike about timextender?**

limited in functions and no compiler to check code; issues with data cleansing before data get into staging data base

**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mearge multiple identical sources together; Fast creation of new data flows, from source to semanic layer

  ### 38. TimeXtender saves a lot of time

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 18, 2023

**What do you like best about timextender?**

Using TimeXtender saves a lot of time, especially when it comes to implementing more advanced data management features such as incremental load and slowly changing dimensions. It also provides really valuable data lineage, version control and documentation. As a developer in TimeXtender, you can focus on the logic to implement and TimeXtender will take care of the rest.

**What do you dislike about timextender?**

TimeXtender has some limitations when it comes to handling large data volumes, for instance when you would like to "keep field values up to date" in tables that hold many rows of data.

**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

TimeXtender makes it possible to bridge a gap between IT and the business, because almost everyone can understand what TimeXtender does and because it is visualized so clearly in the tool how the data is being processed. This makes it easier for end users to write requirements for the data.

  ### 39. Always a responsive support, always a write and quick answer.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fernando M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2023

**What do you like best about timextender?**

Low Code, ease to handle diverse business process.

**What do you dislike about timextender?**

there are no visual data model, check subset ratio of the relationship of the table.

**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Manipulate large set of data.

  ### 40. TimeXtender, the Swiss Knife to set up the Modern Dataware house.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dirk M. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2023

**What do you like best about timextender?**

TimeXtender allowed me to quickly set up a delivery platform, without all the repetitive tasks of setting up pipelines in ADF or similar, and I know my code will keep it's value if my client decides to change storage provider or endpoint.
For a novice in SQL, all the drag and drop feature gives them the tools to set up the transformations, and for an "old" pro like me, it still allows to make use of all the power of SQL to accomplish a lot more.
What I loved most, is that thanks to the integrated lineage and documentation features, it's easy to pick up where somebody else left off. No spending hours to see where the root cause of a bug lies, be it code or data quality at the source. Or going through all the code to see what the impact of a change in the sources will have.

**What do you dislike about timextender?**

Despite the completeness of TX, there's always room for improvement.
There are still some improvements to make on cloning tables, or editing multiple fields at once. In the Semantic models, the cloning facility is lacking entirely.
And Last but not least, in a multi-developper set up, it would be priority one to give a warning that a new version has been deployed, to other users so they may reload the project if needed (or better still: have that part reloaded )
Viewing how an object changes over several versions would be a help as well. This is missing now.

**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

TimeXtender creates an abstraction which bridges all the areas which a modern data ware house needs. It saves time in all repetive tasks by configuring various environments, and then letting the platform roll out all the different components, needed to get the data flowing, being cleansed and published to the endpoints. Having a single interface to check if there are issues is a huge time saver, as is the lineage view to debug/refactor parts of that flow.

  ### 41. Still the best data warehouse tool on the market

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andrew G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 15, 2023

**What do you like best about timextender?**

- Build datawarehouses quickly and methodically
- Seperate E-T-L into different layers
- Easily moved from one infrastructure to another
- Customize solution with your own code where neccesary

**What do you dislike about timextender?**

- The UI is getting very stale
- Very few quality of life improvements since the rollout of long-term support version 20.10
- Still no way to migrate projects to the new version of TimeXtender

**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

- Bring many sources together in one coherent data warehouse
- Execution management: the timing and optimizing of execution order is very cool
- Metadata and data lineage automatically saved

  ### 42. TimeXtender for Data Mining.. excellent

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

Data is separated into 3 databases so that you can test and check the validity (and roll back if necessary). This helps with visualization of data and integrations.

**What do you dislike about timextender?**

Most processes are pretty manual. Also I wish there was more training available.

**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allows us to take data from multiple sources and put them in 1, then make presentatoins via Tableau with that data.

**Official Response from Juan Jose Keena:**

  ### 46. Good yet frustrating

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Luuk H. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 09, 2023

**What do you like best about timextender?**

Timextender is a great piece of kit to do allot of your datamanagement. it works great whilst working on bigger projects that need loads of data processing. The basics are relatively easy to pick up and it allows for a great visual management of all of your datasources and transformative steps.

**What do you dislike about timextender?**

While my experience is currently mostly in the legacy version of TimeXtender it seems that there's some creature comforts that wouldn't seem too hard to implement that are simply missing. Being able to copy and or do mass changes within a semantic model for instance would save loads of time. You cannot select multiple measures, so if you are looking to delete 40 measures you are in for a bit of a sit. Same with changing the formatting on 6 measures at a time because you realise you don't want that many decimals on all of your cards.

**What problems is timextender solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Converting big heaps of data into usable customer data that can be inserted into many outputs like AAS or anything like that. its better than trying to do it all in SQL.

**Official Response from Micah Horner:**

> Thank you for your review and for recognizing TimeXtender as a valuable tool in managing and processing large amounts of data.

Regarding your concerns with the legacy version of TimeXtender, we appreciate your suggestions for improving efficiency, particularly in the semantic model. Your feedback is crucial as it guides our efforts to enhance the user experience.
