## Spree Commerce Reviews
  ### 1. Nice product

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Spree Commerce?**

I like that you can search for orders through email or name, and you can also look at carts that are live, send shipping labels, as well as helping with returns. I also like that you can merge customer's accounts and change passwords easily.

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

Sometimes it is really slow when you are searching for specific orders or emails when there are thousands of options.

**What problems is Spree Commerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us manage the customer interactions and place online orders.

  ### 2. Good Ecom Features of All Levels But Need Extra Work to Customize

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian G. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2023

**What do you like best about Spree Commerce?**

Features cover admin of product info, variants in diff combos of sizes, colors, etc, shipping and more. Buyers can perform basic cart and order actions. Search has thorough filter options only from DB.

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

If to personalize store, need rewrite of many pages, stylesheets. Hard to understand DB schemas and data. Search from DB depends on DB performance. Store is for sole seller; extra extension needed if multiple sellers needed or various buyer actions.

**What problems is Spree Commerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For common basic single store, without development, immediately allows admin of data and buyers can do simple purchases. Extensions like more buyer actions, better search engines, payment processing, and advanced product edting are doable in Ruby with efforts.

  ### 3. A robust platform for e-commerce

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicholas D. | Marketing, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 12, 2017

**What do you like best about Spree Commerce?**

The API of the platforms integrates very nicely with our paywalled membership. This also allows us to use this platform as a stock indicator to see how much product stock we have left.

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

The documentation is a little bit hard to locate and, once found, hard to navigate. Though there are a lot of great features, they can be hard to find if you aren't technical enough to be able to look for them

**Recommendations to others considering Spree Commerce:**

Make the Admin access and back end a little bit more intuitive to use. Also, make documentation of the store more accessible to users.

**What problems is Spree Commerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We run a behind-the-paywall membership and we use SPREE to add to the membership value of the club as well as help with our product stocks and content. From just the management of this, it has been very helpful beneficial for our business.

  ### 9. The fundamentals works, but not very user friendly

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 09, 2019

**What do you like best about Spree Commerce?**

it is a working shopping cart that is able to accept credit cards and payments. Easy to see individual sales.

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

While it is easy to see individual sales, it is difficult to get sales reports, and difficult to get an easy look at the entire database you sold to. Also, creating promotions (coupon codes) is very counterintuitive and could be more user friendly.

**What problems is Spree Commerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sell products online. We have very few SKUs so just looking for a simple cart. It has enabled us to have ecommerce on our site.

  ### 10. Spree is the best for building online E-commerce websites

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Spree Commerce?**

From a developers' point of view and user, Spree storefront is an open source software and very cheap for businesses which want to start E-commerce websites. Documentation is easy to get from the website which explains how best to integrate it with existing applications and top features of e-store are inbuilt which make it a excellent product.

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

The documentation is too much and a lot of training is required of the part of the staff. This means huge cost implications as compared to other softwares

**Recommendations to others considering Spree Commerce:**

There are many products out there in the market such as Shopify which are much better than spree

**What problems is Spree Commerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Spree gives users full shopping cart experience in a quicker way and can be integrated with online payment platforms such as PayPal.

  ### 11. Easy breezy!!!

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

technical barriers as well as no support

  ### 13. Helped me build a e-commerce site for the people in my natives

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nikhil H. | MTS, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 18, 2016

**What do you like best about Spree Commerce?**

I'm still a student in college so for me flexibility and ease of use are top priority. The top features of most e-stores (product pages, payments, etc) were in-built as packages. This made implementation very easy. Sometimes I needed extra features and this was made possible through installation of plugins. Open source feature of Spree made customization possible and the code being very well defined was a plus point.

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

Documentation is sparse. Thankfully, the code is clearly defined. The software seems to be out-of-date as far as the packages are concerned. The features of the store I built went out-of-fashion at some point and we decided to do away with it.

**Recommendations to others considering Spree Commerce:**

I would suggest to use other products like Shopify. Spree is certainly good but there are many products that are better.

**What problems is Spree Commerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My natives is a tiny little village. The people are good at handicrafts and hand made products. This store I built for them helped sell their products to people all over the state (I could get the rights only to sell in that state)

  ### 14. Spree is best for advanced Ruby on Rails development teams

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael L. | President, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2015

**What do you like best about Spree Commerce?**

As a Ruby on Rails developer, Spree is probably the best RoR based solution available in the e-commerce space and offer a fairly easy to setup and configure approach for those familiar with Rails development cycle. It can also be extended through a number of engines and plugins but be forewarned that unless those extensions are extremely popular, you may have to fork and upgrade to work with latest Spree yourself.

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

Spree isn't the most intuitive e-commerce solution to use and if you're training non-technical staff to use, expect a fair amount of hand-holding as you teach your team about taxonomies and product variants and how to correctly set things up to offer correct pricing and desired options at checkout. Spree is flexible enough to handle nearly any scenario, but that power and flexibility also means complexity.

**Recommendations to others considering Spree Commerce:**

Unless you're looking for a lot of flexibility and self-hosting your e-commerce site, I would highly recommend implementing Shopify before Spree. If you have a database of thousands of products and you need to automate store-front population, then Spree is a good choice in this scenario.

**What problems is Spree Commerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Spree provided a quick way to get a full shopping cart experience set up and working in a self-hosted environment and integrated with Paypal.

  ### 15. Spree, regrettably one of the best e-commerce storefronts out there

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joakim R. | Full-Stack Developer, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2015

**What do you like best about Spree Commerce?**

Spree is highly customisable and has a long history of users and is widely used in production in several highly successful stores. It comes with all the things you would expect from a modern store, and is neatly packaged as engines separated into different gems, which each handle separate parts of the business logic. Spree is also easily extendable through plugins, which can be found for most normal demands.

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

Deface. Extending/Overriding methods through class_eval. Having used Spree since 2.0-stable, the upgrade path has been nothing but trouble for our team. Because of client demands, we have to make changes to the layout, controllers and models through a combination of deface and class_eval, but this essentially makes Spree impossible to keep up to date. Spree also accepts pull requests way too easily, and upgrading to a new minor version regularly demands rewriting of entire components. This got to the point where we decided to throw out our entire application running 2.1-stable, and replace it with a fresh install of 2.4-stable and then redo all the custom work, because it was actually saving us time. Still, we're now back where we started – stuck with a Spree installation that we can not feasibly keep up to date without major work.

Spree also does a lot of N+1 queries out of the box, and up until recently didn't have any decent fragment caching built in. Now, with Solidus (http://solidus.io/) being released (a fork of Spree) I'm eager to make the switch.

**Recommendations to others considering Spree Commerce:**

Look at Shopify or Solidus instead.

**What problems is Spree Commerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use Spree as the e-commerce backend for highly popular web stores. We have had to customise big parts of the application to meet our needs (for example writing components in JavaScript and Backbone.js that integrate with the Spree API) and are considering doing the whole frontend in Ember and only communicate with Spree through the Spree API.

  ### 16. Best eCommerce opensource product

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sathesh K. | Senior Product Lead, Information Technology and Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2015

**What do you like best about Spree Commerce?**

When it comes to an eCommerce opensource, According to me as a ROR developer Spree will be on the top. It has all basic features and easy to customize.

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

Support for the gems and addons which is been lacking a lot in past months. Few dependent gems are getting outdated. Spree group should consider this.

**What problems is Spree Commerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Saving development cost.

  ### 17. A complete e-commerce solution

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rémi G. | Co-fondateur, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 04, 2015

**What do you like best about Spree Commerce?**

It is built on top of ruby on rails. It is open-source and its easy to get support when its needed

**What do you dislike about Spree Commerce?**

Sometime its hard to migrate from an older version. Its also hard to know which extensions are still working on newer version of spree

**What problems is Spree Commerce solving and how is that benefiting you?**

One of my client wanted to sell gift certificates online and deliver them easily.
