## About Spade
Spade helps the largest banks and fintechs in the US & Canada, including Citizens, PayPal, FIS, Sardine, and Mercury, win more of their customers' everyday spend, make smarter decisions on every transaction in real time, and turn the transaction data they own into new revenue and AI. With Spade, every transaction is matched against a verified database covering 99.9% of businesses in the U.S. and Canada: a lookup, not a guess. We append the real merchant, exact location, brand, category, and more in under 40ms at over 99% accuracy, across card, ACH, and transfers. As a result, leading fintechs and banks like Stripe, Bilt, Cash App, and Citizens use Spade to cut disputes by showing customers transactions they recognize, power precise rewards, lock cards to exactly what they intend, and build AI products on their own data. Here's what you get with Spade: VERIFIED MERCHANT IDENTITY ON EVERY TRANSACTION A lookup against a database covering 99.9% of U.S. and Canadian businesses, not a guess. Spade returns the real merchant, exact location, brand affiliation, category, and a persistent identifier that ties the same merchant together across card, ACH, wire, and transfers, in under 40ms at p99. FEWER DISPUTES AND SUPPORT CALLS When the cardholder sees the real merchant name and logo, recognition disputes and "what is this charge?" calls drop, including on the long-tail, local, and aggregator-routed charges (DoorDash to the actual restaurant) where confusion starts. REWARDS AND CONTROLS PRECISE ENOUGH TO CHANGE BEHAVIOR Brand-level and hyper-local rewards that land on the right merchant, and cards locked to exactly what you intend, down to the specific merchant or category. REAL-TIME DECISIONS IN THE AUTHORIZATION WINDOW Identity and decision come back in one sub-40ms response, so you approve good transactions you would have falsely declined and run spend controls inline. AI ON YOUR OWN DATA Ask your transaction stream questions in plain language, and train models on it inside a no-PII walled garden, to sharpen partnership decisions, cross-sell, and the AI products your roadmap depends on. SOC 2 Type 2 certified.

## Spade Reviews
 ### 1. Enrichment layer we didn't have to build ourselves

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sidharth A. | Product Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Spade?**

Spade's transaction enrichment coverage is genuinely impressive. A 100% fill on merchant names and categories out of the box, with match rates consistently hitting the top end of their benchmarks.

What stood out most for us was how well it handles the messier parts of a modern transaction mix: correctly identifying delivery service layering (DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc. sitting in front of the actual merchant), payment processor intermediaries, and BNPL, which is exactly where raw transaction data tends to break down.

The team is also very responsive and collaborative to work with.

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

The pricing model is a bit rigid for early-stage integrations where you're still validating fit internally across finance, product, and engineering stakeholders.

On the technical side, some of the required fields for enrichment have formatting that differs across processors, which adds some friction on the integration side that ideally Spade would abstract away.

**What problems is Spade solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Raw transaction data from card processors is pretty noisy, merchant names come through garbled, MCCs are too broad, and you have no visibility into what's actually sitting behind a payment processor or delivery app.
For a fintech that needs clean data flowing into the customer app, rewards engine, fraud monitoring, and analytics all at once, that's a real problem.

Spade solves the heavy lifting of that, clean merchant names and logos ready for the app, accurate category mapping for rewards, and crucially, the ability to see through intermediary layers like DoorDash or Square to the actual underlying merchant.

Getting 96%+ merchant match and 100% category fill out of the box meant we didn't have to build or maintain any of that enrichment logic ourselves.

 ### 2. Best-in-Class Transaction Enrichment: Accurate Data, Fast API, and a True Partner Team

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matthew H. | Product Partnerships Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Spade?**

We integrated Spade into our transaction enrichment pipeline and the results have been outstanding across the board.

The data accuracy and merchant coverage are best-in-class. We saw an immediate and noticeable improvement in match rates compared to what we had before. The enriched fields (merchant names, categories, logos, geolocation) are clean and consistent, which has made a real difference in both our fraud detection models and the end-user experience.

Performance-wise, the API is genuinely fast. Responses come back well within card authorization timeframes, which was a non-negotiable requirement for us. We've had no issues with latency at scale.

Finally, the Spade team itself deserves a callout. They are responsive, knowledgeable, and actually take the time to understand your use case. They've been a true partner rather than just a vendor, proactively sharing improvements and working with us when we had edge cases to solve.

Highly recommend for any fintech, card issuer, or bank that wants richer, more reliable transaction data.

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

Pricing isn't cheap, but with data you get what you pay for.

**What problems is Spade solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Raw transaction data from card networks is often incomplete, ambiguous, or inconsistent — merchant names show up as truncated codes, categories are misclassified, and location data is unreliable. This creates downstream problems across fraud detection, dispute resolution, and the customer-facing transaction feed.

Spade solves this by mapping every transaction to a verified merchant identity in real time, enriching it with clean names, accurate MCC categories, logos, and geolocation. For us, this means fewer false declines, stronger fraud signals, and a transaction history that customers can actually understand without calling support.

 ### 3. Surfaces Hard-to-Find Data Instantly, Exactly How We Need It

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Spade?**

I love that we are able to get the data we need - seemingly impossible data to find is surfaced to us immediately, and in the exact way we need it. They know their stuff, they are flexible, and are down to ideate when we bring them hard problems.

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

It’s hard to say. Sometimes there are specific pieces of data we need that we don’t have, but we’re able to work with them to get what we need.

**What problems is Spade solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We need to access and enhance important healthcare data within a few seconds, and Spade helps us do that in no time. It allows us to authorize the right specifics quickly, creating a seamless experience for our members while keeping the authorization process safe and secure. We use those with our own intelligence platform to paint a full picture for our transactions.

 ### 4. Reliable merchant data, without having to build in-house

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Spade?**

Spade gave us a merchant data layer we could actually trust and that became foundational for several roadmap priorities. Cleaner, more consistent merchant identities and categories were a big part of how we brought our card experience up to parity with larger competitors and unlocked projects that had been blocked by messy data (e.g., stuck in ‘nice idea, but the data is too messy’ territory). We looked at other enrichment options, but their API was straightforward for engineers, coverage on the transactions we cared about were noticeably better, and the team was responsive whenever we ran into edge cases or pushed on gaps/new business questions (e.g., international support).

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

When we first worked with Spade, international coverage was not as strong as we needed, which limited how broadly we could roll it out at the start. To their credit, once we surfaced that, they took the feedback seriously and have been actively expanding their capabilities in that area.

**What problems is Spade solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Spade;s solving the problem of messy, unreliable transaction strings by providing a trustworthy merchant data layer. In prior work, that made it much easier to align product and analytics on a single source of truth and to finally ship roadmap items that had been blocked by data quality. In a more current role, we're starting to explore Spade from a fraud angle as well, using the same underlying merchant intelligence to better distinguish normal everyday spend from higher‑risk patterns without having to rebuild that enrichment layer ourselves.

 ### 5. Strong team, constantly improving the product

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Spade?**

Spade has a strong, dedicated team that provides 24/7 support when needed. The product works well and is continuously being refined over time. They’re very open to feedback and are always looking for ways to incorporate additions into their product roadmap. For us, using Spade has saved significant upfront and ongoing resourcing.

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

For transaction matching, there's still a feedback loop that's required in the event of any errors. This is expected as it's part of improving the platform but it is an ongoing task

**What problems is Spade solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Spade is helping us enrich merchant names for our user's transactions so that they can better understand where charges are coming from. This prevents chargebacks, creates a cleaner UI and makes it easier to analyze our customer's behavior

 ### 6. Responsive Team and Powerful Transaction Enrichment with Spade

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2026

**What do you like best about Spade?**

Working with Spade has been a strong experience end to end. The team is responsive and genuinely consultative - they helped us scope the engagement, build a business case, and think through the right use cases rather than just selling us on features.

The API is well-documented and straightforward to integrate. On the product side, Spade's transaction enrichment has meaningfully improved our card features - giving us cleaner and more comprehensive merchant data to work with.

If you're a fintech looking to make better use of transaction data without building the enrichment layer yourself, Spade is worth a serious look.

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

Nothing significant to flag. If anything, I'd love to see them support item-level transaction blocking, beyond the merchant-level controls.

**What problems is Spade solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Spade powers our merchant and category controls for debit and credit cards. We used to rely on a static merchant list that required constant manual upkeep - now we can offer customers access to the vast majority of US and Canadian merchants out of the box, with no maintenance overhead on our end.

 ### 7. Lightning-Fast Latency and Effortless Merchant Data Cleanup with Spade

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 28, 2026

**What do you like best about Spade?**

Spade's merchant coverage and lightning-fast latency made it a no-brainer for our stack. Cleaning up messy transaction strings used to be a headache, but Spade handles it effortlessly, unlocking entire product roadmaps we couldn't ship before.

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

Their US data is incredible, but as a global platform, we’re eager for them to bring that same depth and accuracy to international merchant coverage.

**What problems is Spade solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Spade solves the problem of messy transaction data by providing broad merchant details that make purchases much clearer for our admins and AI models. Because their APIs are ultra-fast, we can run them in our time-sensitive payment processing system to reliably enrich transactions across different networks, even with sparse network/provider data.

 ### 8. One-of-a-Kind Data, Clean APIs, and Seamless Support at Scale

Spade provides truly one-of-a-kind merchant and transaction data that’s essential for powering debit and credit card programs at massive scale. Their APIs are clean, the data is rich, and the Spade team is extremely knowledgeable and highly responsive whenever we need support.

I have never encountered an issue, the build is seamless from B2B to B2C, the pricing is excellent and provides a clear ROI.

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

Nothing.

I just wish I could port Spade into more parts of the current card programs.

**What problems is Spade solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Spade makes it possible for us to run an efficient, accurate rewards program based on merchant spend. It also helps us deliver a clear, detailed transaction experience for our customers.

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

Continued improvement in merchant accuracy is top of mind for us. They are striving for more and more accurate data, but it's a difficult problem to solve. I trust that they'll get there!

 ### 12. Industry Leading Transactional Enrichment and Merchant Risk Insights

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2026

**What do you like best about Spade?**

Spade Transactional Data is second to none. The quality and insights they provide for each transaction and each merchant can help improve any platform.

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

Spade's core product is their true bread and butter. The capabilities they're building on top of it are valuable, but primarily for organizations that don't want to build those capabilities themselves. From our perspective, it seems like they're treating those higher-level features as universally valuable, when in reality their value depends heavily on the customer's needs and technical maturity.

**What problems is Spade solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Spade helps us provide richer transaction and merchant data to our end consumers. In the end, it makes it easier for them to understand their data, and it’s also helping us reduce disputes.

 ### 13. Consistent, Reliable Merchant Data with Fast Latency and Easy Integration

**What do you like best about Spade?**

Spade gives us consistent and reliable merchant information with excellent latency. The integration was very straightforward, they have good documentation and we were up and running pretty quickly

**What do you dislike about Spade?**

They only have coverage in US/CA - though they plan to expand to more countries soon

**What problems is Spade solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Not having to maintain brittle parsing logic to clean up messy merchant information from credit card networks, being able to reliably associate spend with merchants
