Of Solid Edge, I really like the speed of 3D modeling and editing with synchronous technology. It is quite simple to learn, at least for basic modeling.

What I don't like about Solid Edge is that there are features like macros that are hidden, it's not intuitive, you have to go look for them and they are not always available because there are functions that I find limited.

Having utilized Solid Edge for several months for mechanical design tasks, I have established that it is a powerful and feature-rich application that is especially applicable in product development and manufacturing environments for engineers. The ensuing is an evaluation of my experience:

1. User Interface & Learning Curve
Solid Edge has a new, ribbon-style interface that's intuitive if you're familiar with other Siemens applications or even Microsoft Office. For complete beginners, however, the learning curve is fairly steep—especially if you're transitioning from applications like SolidWorks or AutoCAD. Some of the terminology and workflow differ slightly, but Siemens offers excellent tutorials and an active user forum.

2. Synchronous Technology
A highlight is Synchronous Technology. This allows you to directly edit geometry without worrying about a feature tree. This hybrid modeling approach (synchronous and ordered) can seriously speed up design iteration and makes editing imported models so much easier. At first, it was strange not to be working with a parametric history tree only, but in the end, it was a huge time-saver.

3. 3D Modeling Capabilities
The modeling strength is good. From simple components to complex assemblies, Solid Edge handles them well. Patterning, mirroring, and component relationships are all straightforward features. It is also competent in sheet metal design with a good set of bend and flattening tools. Complicated surfacing is not as fluid as in some of the high-end CAD packages like NX or CATIA.

Solid Edge assembly environment is efficient. Large assemblies perform better than I expected, though the performance is sluggish on low-power machines. The Solid Edge is a quite excellent software to design 3-D mechanical components. I have made parts and little machines with it and it functioned quite well. Its easiness of changing the design even after completion is amongst the best things about it.

The software is of contemporary and clean appearance. Most of them are readily available, and in case you are not familiar with it, it may require small amount of time to learn. Solid Edge works well with other tools to which your company might already be subscribed (in this case, Siemens).

It also possesses great capabilities to work on sheet metal, conduct the basic simulations, and create 2D drawings. This simulation is useful but not when subjected to very complex testing.

Online teamwork is one of the things that could be improved. The file sharing and the cloud is not so silky compared to some newer programs. However, all in all Solid Edge is a very good program to use by an engineer or a student who is interested in professional level design.

Truth be told, there is nothing I really do not like in Solid Edge. So far my interaction with the software has been a breeze. Every tool I have been utilizing in my activities of 3D modeling, part design as well as assembly, have functioned perfectly fine. The interface is all very simple to comprehend and once familiar with it you find it to be quite swift and to the point. The synchronous technology is my favorite tool also, editing and modifying is much easier in this tool compared to other CAD tools, tried. Solid Edge never crashed when I worked with it. It does get slow at times, especially when working with large assemblies, but it handles it eventually. It is well connected with other Siemens tools like Teamcenter, but work fine on its own as well. I find the interface simple for some basic usage. For me, the best thing about Solid Edge is Synchronous Technology. It allows the user to change the geometry without searching through operations history and save time if some last minute changes on the part are required. Solid Edge is very good for sheet metal modeling.

Solid Edge is not beginner friendly. It is hard to find tutorials and documentation, and if you do find some it is usually not that helpfull. Some functions of the software are hard to find if you are not an experienced user. If you are working on large assemblies it can get slow. Having used SolidWorks and NX as well, I can't say that I am not impressed with Solid Edge. For small companies and freelance work it can offer some value, but for more advanced work I wolud not recommend it over SolidWorks or NX.

I like that Designcenter Solid Edge provides a very flexible environment and is easy to use. It's also great for designing and bringing my ideas to reality.

For first time not that easy to setup the app but as time goes became much familiar and easy.

I use Designcenter Solid Edge for solving everyday mechanical and electrical problems. It's a very flexible environment and easy to use.

At the moment, I can't find anything to dislike about Designcenter Solid Edge. I believe that having more options is always a good thing, so I welcome them all.

Easy interface, easy to use for designing parts, assembling different parts of a system, the person can easily train themselves on the software.

There are plenty of files that make the software a little heavy to use. It is necessary to make the software less heavy for users, especially for those who do not have high-performance computers.

**What problems is Designcenter Solid Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solid Edge actually facilitates the design of mechanical parts, especially for an assembly system where each part can be designed separately and then all these parts are assembled. Additionally, it is very easy to use and understand the interfaces, and one of the best things is the shortcuts that can be used either with the mouse or the keyboard, which then speeds up the design process.

As I am someone who doesn't use a lot of software. I wanted to make some small 3D printed knife stands for my house. I took the help of my son and learnt the software to make things on my own. The tools are very descriptive of its own. Which helped me to learn it quickly

I did not find anything that I disliked about Solid Edge. The software is simple to use and great for first-time users as well. I found it a little difficult to integrate, but later on I managed it on my own

Honestly, Solid Edge is pretty underrated. The Synchronous Tech is a game changer for quick edits, especially when you’re working with imported files. It’s got everything in one place — 2D drafting, 3D modeling, sheet metal, and even decent simulation tools built-in. Feels super versatile, and I love not having to jump between programs. Definitely one of those CAD tools that shines when you need flexibility.

Solid Edge is powerful, but man, that learning curve can hit hard, especially if you’re coming from something like SolidWorks or Fusion. The interface feels a bit dated in places, and some tools aren’t as intuitive as they could be. It’s also not as popular in the CAD community, so finding tutorials or forum help can be trickier. Plus, the licensing can get expensive if you’re not on an educational or company plan.

Solid Edge has the advantage of being user friendly and provides good features for 3d modelling like creating weldments assemblies in which the whole material can be selected at assembly level instead of parts.

The problem with Solid Edge as it is faced with large assemblies is that it has the tendency to crash in the middle of work without a prior save notice which can create work loss if you don't save frequently.

It helps as any CAD 3D modelling software in creating 3d parts for any project or machine before sending it to the manufacturing phase. Also it helps simulate the structures for stress analysis which can help find any material selection or strength problems in the manufactured parts.
