It may well have gotten better since then. For me there was speed and downtime issues. I bet that problem has been solved. I still use their domain name registration, and have never had problems with that. **What problems is HostPapa solving and how is that benefiting you?** For me they are a reliable Domain Name registration service. The problems solved is that I don't need to waste time, the service is easy fast and affordable. But they aren't the only service I use, I do have a spread in this service category. ### 5. The issue was definitely with Lunarpages and their servers, but they refused to investigate, until I finally decided to move my websites to a new host. Then they all of a sudden discovered the problem, and admitted it was their issue, not mine or anything I had done. **Recommendations to others considering HostPapa:** While their Control Panel was decent, and they used to be a great company, their support services has gone down to nil. Terrible service, blaming customers for issues they've caused, and you'll waste months trying to find out what you're doing wrong...only to discover it's them, NOT you! I spent MONTHS working on an issue, to no avail, and was told repeatedly by their support department that I was the problem, when I wasn't; very upsetting. ### 6. I have had many hosting companies refuse to help, or even blame me, whereas I would take the same problem to LP and they would solve it. **What do you dislike about HostPapa?** Occasionally I'll find some program missing or not upgraded, like they didn't have a specific Python library (forcing me to move my program from LP to my own private server). After they changed or updated server, website started going down 3-4 times a day. They blamed this on "excessive CPU". After 5 years of this exact website without "excessive CPU". **What do you dislike about HostPapa?** They talked me into purchasing Managed Hosting for $40 a month. I did. Now the site is down. 24 hours ago and on 3 phone calls I asked that the site be restored. That is all. But LunarPages does not seem capable of hosting reliably. **Official Response from Amy Armitage:** > On Dec. 7th Cristian contacted us to let us know his site was down. After reviewing the account we discovered 2 WordPress sites that were 158 versions outdated at that time. They were also heavily exploited. His cron job was also causing a load issue on the server. After the technology updates to the server, Cristian's site began experiencing issues as his coding was not completely compatible with the updates. Due to the nature of the exploited content on the account, and the complexity of the coding (not a simple website as described), it did take longer than 24 hours to clean it up and get the site active again. We worked with him to remove the exploited files, update his scripts and cron job, and were able to get his site back online. This review came at the same time our management got on the phone with him to explain everything and get the site back up and running. Lunarpages is committed to reliability and security. That is why we keep our servers up to date with the latest technology and apply security patches when they become available. When the coding of old websites is not compatible with the latest technology, it is expected that there will be issues with the site in question. Lunarpages is also committed to helping customers correct those issues as quickly as possible. ### 25. He answered all of my questions and taught me how to implement the changes myself if I wanted to. He was creative in his approach to understanding the disk problem and easily fixed it. As usual with LunarPages Customer Support, you can expect to speak to an expert US-based tech who will spend as much time as needed help you and fixing any issues. **What do you dislike about HostPapa?** Not a thing to dislike about LunarPages. I'm still extremely pleased with them. My VPS has virtually a 100% uptime every single month. They stay on top of my server and issue me notices when needed. The tech line is always available. Very very happy. **Recommendations to others considering HostPapa:** LunarPages knows what they are doing--they are still the best hosting company, with the best speed and uptime. There is just no need to look anywhere else. LunarPages has a long history, they have been in business a long time, and have exceptional tech service, whether you are a beginner or advanced. I strongly recommend getting a VPS with them so that you have their great customer service and hardware available at a moment's notice to you. **What problems is HostPapa solving and how is that benefiting you?** They notified me that my diskspace was running low, and so the LunarPages tech helped me identify files on the server that could be cleaned up to improve diskspace. Had this been an issue with another company, I'm not confident I would have received such good customer service. LunarPages is still the best hosting company out there. While the support is great, it can be reactive rather than proactive. **Recommendations to others considering HostPapa:** I've been a Lunarpages customer for 15 years. Until recently, it was just a regular shared hosting account but recently moved up to our own server. My perception is that Lunarpages delivers services and support equivalent to other much more expensive companies. Their uptime is virtually 100%. But their Softalicous is loaded. They are trying to be proactive about script updates through Softalicious. If you have some experience and don't mind not being able to use chat support, or not being able to call in 24/7, then the text based trouble ticket support system is adequate. It's like going to a car mechanic though, try not to ask dumb questions and you probably won't get back dumb answers. You can pay $40/month for 2 hours of expert support with them, which isn't bad. I have had one ex-client use that to unhack their WordPress site to bring it back from the grave. Overall, not too bad.
