Additionally, the depth of returned material was nice. It is great to know more about addresses, why they may be invalid or their status in addition to just correcting the physical material. Sorting the outputs into categories was incredibly helpful to my analysis, and made decision-making a breeze. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** Smarty returned in depth material, but upon review some of the invalid addresses returned were simple errors of formatting. For example, 123MAIN STREET was deemed invalid. Upon investigation and re-running, 123 MAIN STREET was valid. It was minorly frustrating to have several errors, such as BOB CAT versus BOBCAT, or RED BUD versus REDBUD, completely throw the system off. **What problems is Smarty solving and how is that benefiting you?** In rural areas, addresses can go by many names and utilize complicated suffix/street name combinations. Additionally, obtaining data that has not been yet cleaned can create a large time commitment to get the addresses cleaned to a USPS standard. Quarterly we send out newsletters to our membership via snail mail. Somehow I was roped into helping with mailings since I take care of our online membership and website. I was looking for a rather simple web based program that could verify address since our membership list has address that are approximately 30 years old. With the new bulk mailing rules/process USPS uses we needed something to verify these address and be able to fix them if needed. Smarty was the best option. It is not perfect, but it works to verify and even gives changes to address when needed. We went from approximately 300 address being kicked out by USPS to approximately 20-30 now. With bulk mailing you pay whether it is delivered to an address or not. Smarty definitely saved us money the first few mailings. The best part of Smarty is that I think they are one of the only companies that never tried to upsell us. As a not for profit volunteer organization money can be a bit tight some days.... **What do you dislike about Smarty?** We have to buy two licenses each month of use. They don't have an in between user option. There are also quite a lot of detail passed through the API so it's a bit difficult to know how strict we should be with our address validation. If they offered best practices or different "levels" of validation, that would be great. They had tools for integration via their API, which I was able to integrate into one of our home grown solutions. It was so easy to get it working and allows our users to quickly see valid addresses and use those for data entry. This is used by our users on just about a daily basis. Smarty also has a great tool for batch loading a file of addresses and receiving a corrected file, which we've used on several occasions. Smarty's Customer Service has been great, I've never had anything they didn't help me with and have always been pleased with my interactions. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** I can't come up with anything I dislike about the product, in the years I've been using it, it has been great. **What problems is Smarty solving and how is that benefiting you?** Smarty's address verification solution has been allowing us to have clean address data. One of the largest benefits has been the consistency of the data across our contacts, and another benefit comes from having valid data for the mailings that we do. In my company, results are expected quickly, and from finding them to integrating with our data warehousing for addres cleanup, it was very fast. Their API is straightforward and well documented. We use Smarty for any new addresses that are entered in our CRM for parsing and cleanup, which is about 50 times a day. I must say that among all integration partners that we have, Smarty is the one that causes no headache at all. It is highly available and performant. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** That's a hard one. I did have critics about Smarty on how services could be better in specific areas. Those realizations came after several months of usage, on edge cases. I submitted the feedback only to learn that my issues were, actually, already addressed. Their API is easy to understand and can be as simple as you like for a basic address verification, or you can leverage some really nifty features such as how quickly you offer your user an address autocomplete suggestion as they are typing in the address. Too soon and you offer your user too many unusable suggestions (and eat up your lookups) but if you wait too late your user ends up typing in too much of the address which is not a good experience. Smarty allows you to fine tune this to your liking. They also have lots of examples in different programming languages so its a sure bet you'll find a relevant example. Their billing plans are very flexible too. We can easily scale up or down our monthly lookups to match our ordering volumes so we rarely leave any unsued lookups. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** I've been a customer for 10+ years, and I haven't really had anything I disliked. **What problems is Smarty solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our system generates property reports for our clients based on inputted addresses. A report can have on it a subject property and anywhere from 6 - 12 comparable properties that all need to be inputted. We leverage Smarty's address autocomplete to help our users save time entering in addressess and also minimize the possiblity of any keystroke mistakes. Ease of use and flexibility between both list upload and API. I found the data reliable and clean with very few mistakes on unmatched addresses. I found items like rdi, cmra, and vacancy flags to be reliable when looking at a sample of addresses individually. When using the API, I haven't experienced any outages or failures. Overall, it was a straightforward service that provided us exactly what we were looking for in our data needs. If it weren't for time on our side, we would have switched over to include the geocoding services in addition to the US Address API **What do you dislike about Smarty?** I think the only main thing I saw the verification API struggle with was state route addresses. Other than that, I don't have any major dislikes of the US Address API. In the future, I would love to see the company provide more services that would include NCOA, business matching on commercial addresses, and gated community flags ( which I am yet to see a company provide easily ). We currently have a geocoding subscription with Geocodio, one thing I really like that they provide is there bulk list upload tool built-in directly to the API. This made it very easy in bulk processing - for Smarty, I had to build more of a technical approach based on our infrastructure. **What problems is Smarty solving and how is that benefiting you?** We work primarily with registration and absentee early vote files provided by secretary of state offices around the country. This data is often inconsistent in how it's provided to us and also can be incredibly messy and inconsistent. The address verification API in many instances allowed us to assemble this data in a consistent, clean structure. We have a consultant that provides for much of our deliverability data but we probably would use those flags if that weren't the case. ### 24. We have integrated the API into our software and, since we need our testing/staging sites to perform similar to our Production site, we have integrated it into those platforms as well. You were kind enough to add 1,000 look-ups to our account for testing, but we quickly discovered we are testing through the 1,000 in just a couple of days. Therefore, rather than using our Purchased look-ups for testing, we are have been using trial accounts for our testing and we having to replace these accounts weekly if not more. Also, the individual I was working with when we set up our account has not been very responsive lately. I am sure he is busy, but I would like to know if there are account managers or someone I can speak with when we have questions or concerns. Plus, if USPS was unable to verify or normalize the address, it would send back an error, which we would then have to determine whether it was a real 'error' in the address that was sent or if it was just unable to verify the address. This allows us to programmatically cleanse large sums of data regularly to ensure that any incoming addresses are valid. Their customer service is also stellar and usually respond promptly. **What do you dislike about Smarty?** The price has recently increased by roughly 50% **What problems is Smarty solving and how is that benefiting you?** Smarty is solving a data normalization problem that we had with address information.
