&lt;p&gt;What turns variance into better quoting rather than a log of overruns is capturing why, not just how long. Time collection will tell you op 30 took 4.2 hours against 2.5 quoted. It won&#39;t tell you the stock came in over size and the part got refixtured twice, and without that the only available lesson is to pad op 30 everywhere, which costs you the jobs where it would have run fine. ProShop tracking time against each individual work-order operation is the right granularity to build on, since op-level data at least tells you where to go ask the question. The habit that makes it pay off is a short reason code at clock-out whenever an operation runs over by more than whatever threshold you pick.&lt;/p&gt;

For actual estimated vs actual tracking, ProShop and JobBOSS² are probably the two worth looking at if that&#39;s your main need. ProShop&#39;s variance data gets granular enough that you can use it to fix future quotes, not just see where you went over. JobBOSS² connects time collection to job costing pretty naturally too. Paperless Parts is great for the estimating side but it&#39;s not really where you&#39;d go for shop-floor time tracking.
