What is Slate by Technolutions, and what problem is it built to solve?

Slate by Technolutions is a platform for higher education institutions that brings admissions and enrollment work into one system. It combines CRM, student engagement, application review, and online portals to help institutions manage recruitment, communications, and data analysis.

What languages does Slate by Technolutions support?

Slate by Technolutions supports 1 language: English.

What company sizes and industries is Slate by Technolutions the best fit for?

Slate by Technolutions appears most relevant to higher education teams, with positive user experience concentrated in mid-market and enterprise organizations. The strongest industry presence is in higher education and education management.
  • Mid-market organizations: Teams with 51–1,000 employees.
  • Enterprise organizations: Teams with more than 1,000 employees.
  • Higher education: Colleges, universities, and other higher education institutions.
  • Education management: Organizations working in education management.

How long does it take to implement Slate by Technolutions across a team?

Implementation timelines most often fall in the three-to-six-month range, though some teams report shorter or longer rollouts.
Time to go live Relative frequency
3–6 months Most common
1–3 months Less common
6–12 months Less common
Under 1 month or over 12 months Occasional

What customer support options does Slate by Technolutions provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

Support is described as capable and helpful, particularly when teams need guidance with complex processes. The experience can vary, however: users also encounter slow or unpredictable responses, and some find the ticket-based process less convenient than speaking with someone directly.

What is the experience like for teams switching to Slate by Technolutions from another tool?

Teams switch to Slate by Technolutions when previous systems feel outdated, lack admissions-specific tools, or leave recruitment and application work spread across multiple platforms. Prior systems mentioned include admissions CRMs and enrollment tools such as Salesforce, Ellucian PowerCampus, Jenzabar, Hobsons, and CAMS, as well as document and legacy systems. The move can bring admissions data, applications, and communications together, but configuration and learning the system take effort, so teams benefit from planning implementation and having people available to support it.

What features or capabilities could make Slate by Technolutions even more useful?

Slate by Technolutions could be easier to work with in a few recurring areas. Users would benefit from improvements such as:
  • Making queries and reporting easier to build and use without specialized technical knowledge.
  • Simplifying navigation, search, and common workflows so routine tasks take fewer steps.
  • Expanding integration options and making data exchange with other systems more straightforward.
  • Improving mobile access and the flexibility to customize the user experience.
  • Adding options such as automatic logging for text campaigns and staff task management.

"Streamlined Admissions CRM with Room for Improvement"
4/5
What do you like best about Slate by Technolutions?

I find Slate by Technolutions incredibly useful for our college admissions CRM. The best part about it is how easy it is to access student-level data. The ability to track our communications and activities makes it simple to see where a student is in the admissions process. I particularly like the Timeline feature which lets me see all of our interactions, and it's also very easy to add materials to each student profile. Additionally, we find it easy to use for event management, handling registrations, communications, and tracking seamlessly. Slate has made a significant difference in simplifying our processes. What do you dislike about Slate by Technolutions?

The application Reader function is not as intuitive as some competitors. It is clunky to move applications from one bin to the next and difficult to navigate in and out of the Reader. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Slate a great resource and tool, but requires a lot of training"
2.5/5
What do you like best about Slate by Technolutions?

I love the ability Slate gives to create queries and gather data relevant to any project. It is highly flexible and can be used in many ways. Every department on our campus uses it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Slate by Technolutions?

I do not like the layout of Slate, and I also do not find it very user-friendly. We often have the idea of how to use it, but need someone more skilled in Slate on campus to help us get it done. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Slate by Technolutions?

"Great for emails"
4/5
What do you like best about Slate by Technolutions?

I use Slate mostly to create emails for drip campaigns. I appreciate that it's fairly easy to use and that you can easily see performance stats for each email. I love how content blocks make it give you the ability to streamline emails and make edits without stopping anything. The ability to use liquid mark-up in emails to point different audiences to different CTAs is also awesome...once you get the hang of it, it can do almost anything you need it to. It's a really powerful tool and it can do so much more than emails (and we use it for much more). Setting calendar events and sign-ups, letting students reply to an email and having that message go directly to admissions, creating portal pages for students at various stages of the funnel. It's kind of sprawling in all the things it can do so we have different people focusing on different things.. I'm almost impressed by what we are able to do with it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Slate by Technolutions?

Sometimes it seems like there's things that should be easy to do, but it involves a lot of finnicking instead. But they're always making improvements and I've seen the benefits of that over the past few years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"A Malleable, Multi-Purpose CRM Geared Toward Higher Ed Institutions"
5/5
What do you like best about Slate by Technolutions?

Slate somehow pulls off the one-size-fits-all approach for higher ed CRM needs. Especially for those in admission work, this platform can fill a wide variety of functions, including outreach, metrics, event management, and more. It has made connecting with prospective students far easier, and also helps us stay organized across different departments. We've begun expanding to use within our current student population as well, which opens up many new avenues for implementation. There is also a wide array of other users, so if you have a question, it's likely been answered in a forum already. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Slate by Technolutions?

As with any new platform, there is a slight learning curve when starting on. Implementation can also pose challenges, but it's mainly because folks in admission work are used to having to abide by the rules of the platform that they are using. Slate lets you write your own rules, which can be freeing, but also challenging in its own right. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Slate by Technolutions"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Slate by Technolutions?

Slate is a great CRM. it is customizable and helps us to most efficiently track and communicate with our admissions prospects at our institution. It is cloud-based, which has been huge for our remote team. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Slate by Technolutions?

Slate's user experience can often be a bit simple. It isn't as elegant as other CRM's without time to properly build. While aesthetics cannot yet be our priority, it would be great to have quick and straightforward options to boost the appearance of our end users. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Rockstar of the year"
5/5
What do you like best about Slate by Technolutions?

Slate has the ability to merge and consolidate records. The upload process is super easy. The batch acquire function allows the materials to be put right into the record. All the information I need can be put on the dashboard so I don't need to view multiple screens. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Slate by Technolutions?

The field names are not intuitive. I am new to the product but as a new user it is complex to me. Building the queries is a challenge; wish there was a tutorial to explain the process and terminology. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
