**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2025

**What do you like best about Scala?**

Scala is run on JVM which make it is easy and more problem solving with integration of Java programing language. Also it is a combination of both i.e.
OOP and functionol. As well as it great for concurrency which will help to use it efficiently.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

The few things that i dislike about scala is a learning curve can be little bit harder for beginner level. Also it has limited tools as compare to other languages

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Developing the scalable and reliable backend services can be done with scala. where it helps to solve multiple buisness problem in form of application with rich in scalability and functionality which are fast. The handling of same or diffrent task at a same time is big issue in buisness level applications that can be solved using scala concurrency.

 ### 2. Benefits of Scala

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2024

**What do you like best about Scala?**

the ability to handle huge endpoints.content updates are easy to rollout.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

the product is not robust , and support for key features using windows LTSC later versions is terrible

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NONE

 ### 3. Scala Digital Signage

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Broadcast Media | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2021

**What do you like best about Scala?**

Ease of use. It has a lot of features and gives the user full control of their Digital signage network

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

Scala could adjust pricing to make it more affordable

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have found that Scala can be implemented with a lot of technologies

 ### 4. Display design with Scala

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kyle S. | Founder & Creative Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Scala?**

The options are endless with Scala. Is is fast and versatile and in the signage world. We used scala for signage within our restaurants and cafes and it allowed us to integrate several areas together. We setup the system to work with the pre-order mobile functionality. That was a game-changer for our business an perception to our customers.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

It wasn't easy to learn per se. It was unique, unlike other platforms. The time to learn was a bit frustrating, but that being said, all platforms take some time to learn. The wayfinding feature was a bit frustrating to learn and took longer to setup than we had hoped for.

**Recommendations to others considering Scala:**

Be sure to learn all of the offerings that scala has and do plenty of research by talking with other companies that have used the products.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The wayfinding feature (once we figured how to easy the bottlenecks) was great for meeting rooms, events and conferences that were held at our hotels. The point of sale functionality (which was the first feature we used) has helped to create bounce-back offers to our customers.

 ### 5. Easy to sell and develop across multiple-sized businesses.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 16, 2018

**What do you like best about Scala?**

Scala seems to be one of the preferred platforms that our digital media team uses. This makes it an easy selection when looking for a solution. Our team is familiar with the platform such that I have built-in support and implementation help before, during, and after the sales cycle with the customer. We're also able to provide design services to our customers, for those that may not have an in-house team to do this.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

Nothing that I have found so far. Since moving to my current company, I have had several opportunities to develop and propose Scala as a complete digital signage solution.

The only thing that has been a disadvantage for me to date is that I haven't engaged my local Scala partner rep more. I know that are an excellent source of information. I will make a goal to connect with my local rep/partner to create that relationship.

**Recommendations to others considering Scala:**

There are a multitude of platforms available for digital signage. The struggle is finding one that meets the needs for all business units in an enterprise. I've worked with several signage companies that offer slivers of features, that have to be duct-taped together to create an entire usable package. Scala seems to have it all under one roof, without being required to bring in various hardware and software providers to make it all work.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to use a solution that spans the SMB-to-enterprise customers that we deal with daily. They are looking to us for a complete solution, which can include, corporate messaging, local 'flavors' and goings-on, bullpen dash-boarding, analytics reporting, and public safety, They want to invest in a platform that meets all their needs, and that can grow as they do, with as little pain as absolutely necessary,

 ### 6. The perfect software for the technical neophyte

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sol C. | Audio/Video Designer, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Scala?**

I was impressed by the drag-and-drop user interface. It makes importing content and getting it to your preferred destination easy and intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

I wish there was a little more flexibility in terms of curating the content to be displayed. I’d like the ability to display multiple images or video files simulataneously in a multi-window configuration.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The most important benefit is that I can have new new employees with relatively low tech skills administer and control the Scala digital signage software. It’s very basic and intuitive so it requires minimal training resources from IT support.

 ### 7. An out of date review?

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2018

**What do you like best about Scala?**

It was easy to use, and the back end management made keeping tabs on on players a snap.

Made a funky art wall with varying content, was able to remotely control screens with RS232.

Player pcs would update even with intermittent internet

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

When I was using it it didn't have much in the way of built in awesome graphic options built in. Who knows nowadays.

**Recommendations to others considering Scala:**

I'd give it a whirl, support was always super helpful.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am not currently solving problems with it.

It was alot better than the sofware we were using, as we were able to drive a number of screens with varied content instead of just repeating.

 ### 8. Scala Review

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Gambling & Casinos | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2018

**What do you like best about Scala?**

Scala has a very powerful feature set. It has the ability to do just about anything you could want it to do.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

Scala is very powerful and can be very difficult to figure out. The software could be a little more user friendly. Training on the software is really required to do advanced things.

**Recommendations to others considering Scala:**

It's a good product. Get training on the software after you start using it so you know what you need to know when you go to training.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Scala solved the billing proof problem. It reports what adds run when and provides a nice tidy report. These reports have greatly reduced the arguments from clients.

 ### 9. Scala was a complex, somewhat difficult to maintain, robust DS platform

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Media Production | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 08, 2018

**What do you like best about Scala?**

Scala's robust features and ability to do everything needed for even complex Digital Signage deployments.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

The underlying architecture seemed problematic in some cases, and the complexity of the setup for shows for distribution was daunting for many users.

**Recommendations to others considering Scala:**

Consider an alternative product unless you REALLLY need some feature that Scala provides and others don't. Don't expect a lot of technical support.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

WE were content providers for the Scala platform, over the years that becoming progressively more challenging, to the point it was eventually discontinued. Because Scala is a largely accepted/deployed platform we expected significant sales for it, but that never really happened.

 ### 10. No cloud option at the time

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Scala?**

The capabilities of the product were strong however at the time of review the product lacked cloud capabilities - it required an on premise server. I'm not sure if that's changed, this was years ago but this was a major deterrant.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

The on premise hardware requirement. It was also pretty technical to manage - I didn't feel comfortable with a business user managing it.

**Recommendations to others considering Scala:**

Strong capabilities but at the time of the trial their user interface wasn't easy for a business user to manage.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing a diverse digital sign network

 ### 11. Scala didn't scale

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Scala?**

I didn't like anything best. Our company was tasked with taking over support and it was beyond difficult. Vendor support was tough and the product didn't feel mature enough for the solution it was implemented.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

I dislike the CMS functionality. I was difficult to setup and support this system for a highly valued retail client. The system wasn't scalable enough for a reliable and quality nationwide rollout

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our client was in retail advertising in malls across the US

 ### 12. Daily Scala Uploader

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tiara Holbert R. | Graphic Designer, Graphic Design, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2018

**What do you like best about Scala?**

The easability and simpllicity of the user interface design is very clean and sleek. It is easy to navigate and the labeling of fields is very logical.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

It does take a while to initially load our content each time. I would recommend add a multi-layered file and folder deletion function.

**Recommendations to others considering Scala:**

Do it you will not regret it! The training and implementation was fun and seamless. They employee was very engaging. He was very open to ideas and suggestion that we were able to offer up. We even implemented the transition ahead of schedule!!!

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Digital billboard advertising.

 ### 13. Digital Signage Review

sometimes too many options could be confusing for first time use

**Recommendations to others considering Scala:**

scala is one of the largest and established digital signage management. the customer support and sales experience are impressive. We've tried several other digital signage companies and scala is by far gave the most clean and simple looking content management platform. It allows your designer to customize the content flow etc. more so than scala's competitors.

combining digital screens on multi platform in various locations. ease of content management, on real-time. increase brand awareness and consistency throughout locations

 ### 15. Great platform, lots of options

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Scala?**

Very powerful system, and you can do anything you want with it.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

Some things that I wanted to deploy required custom programming outside of the software and then connect that data with Scala.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Needed a new screen management system. The one we were using was old and clunky, didn't manage the data on the screens well enough, and would freeze.

 ### 16. Industry leader

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2018

Stability, versatility of schedulings and applications (screen configurations).

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

A bit complicated initial configuration.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My company has produced it's own DS system, so obviously we use that more often - however even as somewhat of a competor we stand behind, endorse and often direct clients to Scala where it is a better fit for them.

 ### 17. Easy to use, but must find hardware best suited for your needs

Able to promote new menu items inside a restaurant, and see an increase in LTO mix.

**Reviewed by:** Jeff R. | Product Owner, In-store Media Projects, Media Production, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2017

**What do you like best about Scala?**

Metadata-driven smart playlists help create region- and context-specific playlists in different locations without having to program playlists individually. Setting expiry dates on content also ensures we never have expired product on display.
Also, the Designer suite makes our still images as content more engaging by adding subtle motion and text overlays.

**What do you dislike about Scala?**

The annual maintenance agreements for the different components add up. Getting a quote for a new system has multiple convoluted licenses and line items.

**Recommendations to others considering Scala:**

If you want complete ownership over your system and don't want to go the SaaS route for your signage, Scala checks pretty much every box in terms of capability and resilience.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our signage system went from DVD player, to an open-source signage platform to Scala, which gave us a much lower-maintenance, more professional and flexible signage platform. Having realtime reports on the status of the players and logs make it easy to ensure uptime.

The back end of SCALA is a little clunky to navigate. I think it could have a more modern look. I also think SCALA is a little hard to use if you have no software background due to the disorganized backend.

**Recommendations to others considering Scala:**

Great product. I would recommend doing some research before starting.

**What problems is Scala solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using SCALA to push digital content to various screens around the university.
