What do you like best?

I enjoy working with Rhinoceros as a 3D modelling computer program Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes exporting as a 2D drawing can be time consuming Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

I would highly recommend users to start using Rhinoceros. It is a 3D program that allows you to create fast and accurate 3D models. For our discipline (urban design) it works great. I enjoy working with Rhinoceros because it allows to organise the file very well with all the layers options. In terms of support there are many tutorial videos available and also user guides that explain all the functions in detail and therefore there are not any commands that are not easy to understand. I like the fact that you can have floating licenses, for example in our office we have a few licenses and we create and team and can share the purchased licenses. This offers flexibility to the team and is a plus when working in a team with multiple people. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am an urban designer and I am using Rhinoceros mainly for volumetric models. I use it to make and volumetric studies of urban plans. I import 2D base drawings from Autocad and then using extruding commands create the 3D model. I calculate the total volume with Rhino, continue building the model and finally exporting the end product. I return to 2D drawing as Autocad or Illustrator or I use Lumion for making renders. I am very satisfied with Rhinoceros as a 3D modelling program. It is accurate in designing, works great with other programs eg Autocad and it has a friendly user interface Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Before using it for my actual job I didn't have any school lesson and started just by my own, reading ebooks and watching tutorials online.

What I liked most was the ease of learning and the versatility of its application.

Being able to download many plugins enriches even more the software functions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Rhino still doesn't have a good native rendering engine (hopefully we can rely on the pluging).

The user interface could be better designed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm using it as an all in one software that kept me from making other purchases of additional softwares. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The auto-completing command line and the ability to enter exact values of what you want any tool to perform. The way I explain Rhino to other 3D users who don't do CAD is: Rhino is basically an incredibly sophisticated DRAFTING tool: it's not only my favorite 2D drafting tool, but it's the best for hard surface 3D modeling projects as well (or any modeling that will then result in physical prototyping and manufacturing). Rhino has a unique UX due to its command line, and it's very much appreciated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

For my uses, I've never found a single significant shortcoming that is worth griping about. Really, Rhino is like an old friend.

Better line and fill visualization options would be handy, but I'm still using v5, so maybe 6 or WIP has some of this already. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've used it for almost everything: prototyping physical parts for 3D printing, injection mold design, graphic design and logo design, creating assets for animations (animated in another program), etc.

Basically, think of any situation where you would "need" to use Adobe Illustrator, and instead use Rhino and be blown away by how much better of an analytic-drafting tool it is than Illustrator. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

It’s easy to use for complex designs and structures. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes, it’s taking longer time to create detailed architectural drawings for final presentations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It’s beautiful that with Rhinoceros, it’s much easier to generate different views, 3D sections, and elevations. This solve the problem of wasting time in drawings and then editing or changing the concept. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The seamless transition from ArcGIS for real-time data can be exported to AutoCAD and then imported to Rhino for extrusion and layering. This is a key feature to visualize data in 3D for design purposes. The inbuilt Rhino render is good for basic rendering visualization Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

The shadows in Rhino are difficult to control and visualize. The general interface for accessing the tools is a bit tough for a beginner to navigate.

Rhino render is still primitive and the dependency on V-Ray for rendering is still prominent. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If as an urban designer, you would like to switch from SketchUp which is convenient but not dependable for precise modelling which Rhino can be relied on, functions and commands work quite similar to AutoCAD and the transition would be easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Analysing the dearth of hospitals/medical centres in neighborhoods through GIS and then modelling the data in Rhino has been a seamless transition. Primary benefits that have been noted during this specific project is that various formats of files can be imported especially if you have to draw over a raster image. What do you like best?

The software can be used as a beginner, or can complete models for the most complex and experienced designer. It reveals complexity as you want it too.

The command line interface provides an incredibly efficient and quick tool for performing modelling tasks.

With additional integration with hundreds of plugins like grasshopper and ladybug, you can explore parametric and sustainable design still all from within Rhino. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the performance can be lacking, as it doesn't always take full advantage of the computers capabilities. Additionally, it has some bugs relating to Make2d commands, and does not always handle interchanging with files that use meshes instead of NURBs.

Ideally the software would be more easy to import and export from with other commonly used software packages such as Illustrator, Autocad and Lumion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is the best tool for modelling and drawings designs. You can use it solely for 2d orthogonal drawings, or create complex 3d geometries. The flexibility and powerful commands allow you to create nearly anything.

Layouts allow you to export your drawings in a professional manner, and create drawing sets effortlessly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

The thing I love most about Rhino is that you can literally make anything. It does take a lot of practice and skill but you can create anything that comes to mind. I also really like the plug ins that you can get for Rhino like VRay and Grasshopper which allow even more possibilities. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I dislike and like this feature but I get irritated by how long it sometimes takes to create simple shapes onto of one another because in this program you can move things in any which way unless you have one of the tools on to help but some other programs do fix this issue a little better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am solving every Interior Design/ Architecture problem I face with Rhino because it allows me to completely dissect a building or completely build it from scratch. I used to get very frustrated with the program but over time I have grown to appreciate the possibilities it brings and the ease of use with similar programs. What do you like best?

The ease of use, the intuitive interface, the simple implementation of plug-ins, and the quality of output. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Their licensing is a bit archaic and old fashioned, requiring the purchase of physical media to acquire a key which is then registered online. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It's great for not only learning CAD, but it's also a very competent piece of software for prototype and design. There are additional modules you can purchase for CADCAM, 3D printing, photorealistic rendering, animation, stress detection, and just about everything else you can imagine. What do you like best?

I like that it takes lots of types of files, like tons and tons of file formats. I can load most things i find out in the internet onto Rhino Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

I hate that it can't handle files larger than an object more complex than a chair. It crashes all the time and I have to start over so much I hate it. The user interface also looks like it's from the 90s. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Very useful within the ship building industry Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

Customer service very unhelpful when trying to organize existing licences . Stating that we need to repay for a licence we set up previously because an employee set up an account using there personal email (with our permission). Stating that the licence is void because it was "stolen". It was not stolen.

As a startup company who was hoping to rely on Rhino as our main tool I am extremely frustrated and feel ripped off. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

Be organized from the start. Make sure to set up all licencing under the same work email. Customer support is very unhelpful when trying to recover a licence. Even if you have permission from all users to re obtain the key. Unfortunately we have an employee who left and forgets key number or how to access our licence.

They will try to re-charge you rather than reset/provide your licence information. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

With Rhino you can work on every stage of an architectural project easily, from conceptualizing to print the executive draws. the ability of exporting in a great number of format is a great asset. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

One downside is the 2D maker from 3D models, sometimes fails some line.

It's not the best software for printing the draws, it's better to pass through some other softwares before. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best?

Free form, non parametric modelling allows you to do most things a normal cad package would sit in the corner and cry about without breaking a sweat. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike?

As it is non parametric, undoing things is kind've impossible once done, you have to be very vigilant with the incremental save feature and have a ton of storage space on your device. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering the product:

If your workflow is about a class level surfaces, this is a keen competitor to some of the heavier packages out there like solidworks or NX. Its price point is also really good for a small company. However be warned Nurbs modelling is very different from block of mesh modelling. In some ways it is archaic, in others it is fantastic. The freedom to do anything is both terrfying and empowering in your workflow. The recent update combining it with grasshopper (graph calcuator interface) really fixes a lot of the issues with creating variants or changing complex shapes at a later stage. It is also native on Mac and windows which is a nice touch.

Plugins are a godsend with this product, grab yourself all the rhino-scripts you can off the internet to make it more usable. Gear generator is a personal favorite of mine Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
