It is user-friendly UI makes the Raspbian the first choice for most beginners. The latest versions come with widely used applications and programs pre-installed (like python, red-hat, etc.). Some people consider those applications as 'bloatware' most people don't realize that this makes beginners easily get used to this OS. It also contains some of the best features of Ubuntu. People behind the Raspbian and the community always really helpfull and supports the OS, which keeps the Raspbian up-to-date. **What do you dislike about Raspbian?** There is not much to dislike about the Raspbian. Visually it is not as appealing as Ubuntu at first glance. But you can adjust most of the stuff as you like. I would like to have an option to install the pure Raspbian (without pre-installed applications). The major issue with Raspbian is its lack of support for most peripherals (like Logitech Bluetooth speakers, etc.). It also has some issues with grub. You have to tweak a little bit to make it work with the grub. Specifically, you have to use grub2. **Recommendations to others considering Raspbian:** I highly recommend Raspbian especially for people who just started using Raspberry Pi. It is really easy-to-use and some of the pre-installed applications are really helpful. You can even discover new applications inside of it you have never heard of. **What problems is Raspbian solving and how is that benefiting you?** I've used Raspabian in my Raspberry Pi. I've also done my Python programming stuff with Raspbian. It almost feels like a full-fledged OS with Chromium and OpenOffice. I wasn't turning off my Raspberry, so instead of booting my laptop, I was using my Raspberry Pi to check my e-mails, read some news and watch some videos on YouTube when I got back to the office. ### 15. There are many good things about this OS that I love: 1)Since Raspbian provides users with the LXDE desktop environment, it supports many applications that are available on a desktop. 2)Since its a linux based operating system, it follows the same commands in the terminal as is followed by any other linux based operating system out there(such as ubuntu). This helps the users since they do not have to memorize(or make a note of) different commands for Raspbian. **What do you dislike about Raspbian?** One of the things that I dislike the most about Raspbian is that with every new version of Raspbian they release, the dependencies of existing applications and packages are changed. We had built a prototype of Martian rover that was built in order to perform certain tasks. I had used Raspbian Jessie in my raspberry pi to operate the rover(all its mechanical and electrical parts) remotely. One the benefit that I have realized about Raspbian is that it is very well customized for Raspberry PI, keeping its low processor and ram in mind. I probably am not experienced enough to say that, but since it's built for a ARM processor and the raspberry pi, some less common tasks (connecting to a MS SQL Server via a odbc) can be harder to accomplish. This low cost platform is used all the time in our R&D efforts to design low cost rapidly deployable sensors. It also allows us to equip our student researchers with their own development platform instead of a single multiuser server. **What do you dislike about Raspbian?** Some of the proprietary ARM based libraries are difficult to work with. It is not a major inconvenience but is something to consider. ARM compatibility is the largest negative issue when working with Raspbian. **Recommendations to others considering Raspbian:** Buy more than one Raspbian platform. Their low cost makes parallelizing development very easy to implement. **What problems is Raspbian solving and how is that benefiting you?** Low cost sensor development at a university. We've been able to lower our operating costs without compromising on the quality of our work. ### 27. Runs on Raspberry Pi and have all you need on board with GUI! Browser, text editor and so on. **What do you dislike about Raspbian?** It is based on linux, but with ARM architecture. So you can't just install any linux app. And this is a problem. There is no a lot of apps on it. **What problems is Raspbian solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use it to run a webpage in kiosk mode on LED TV screen. Modern TV has build-in browser and WiFi, but older models have not. Portable PC is rather expensive, but Raspberry Pi with installed Rasbian on it is a great cheap solution ### 28. The support you have from the community. The access to the GPIO. The raspberry Pi team makes this product very easy to buy and easy to deploy. The software included for children to learn programming is a good point for those who use it. **What do you dislike about Raspbian?** That the repositories are only in the UK. If they fail, we have no updates! Meanwhile, Debian repositories can be found all around the world. The accessories also are a bit expensive. Maybe because it is all UK-centered. **Recommendations to others considering Raspbian:** Best for mobile projects **What problems is Raspbian solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are building a portable "click-and-serve" for wifi vouchers. Raspbian is ideal because we just have to deal with Python and the GPIO and it works great. If we use another distro, the battery would drain faster. ### 29. It has been easy to configure and has everything you would expect on a Linux based system. **What do you dislike about Raspbian?** On some of the earlier versions there wasn't a very good browser available. The newer browser options work much better. I use Chromium most of the time but it seems to be a memory hog but powerful. I use other browsers if I have memory concern. **Recommendations to others considering Raspbian:** Raspbian keeps getting better. **What problems is Raspbian solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have been using Raspbian with Node-red on my customer site. The system has been very stable without any crashes and it has run nonstop for over 1.5 months. I clear the cashe regularly just in case there is any memory leak. ### 32. Like other flavors of Linux, this operating system can be used in a variety of ways, but Raspian has a smaller footprint and is designed to be used on the Raspberry Pi. This is useful in just about any project that has limited space, but needs computing power. There are many users that use this system to run older arcade games, among other uses. **What do you dislike about Raspbian?** I have no dislikes at this time. If you are comfortable with Linux, this should be no problem for you. If you are not comfortable with Linux, there are many forums and websites that can help.
