## Qubole Reviews
  ### 1. "Great and easy to implement tool to manage big data"

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Muhammad D. | ELP, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 17, 2022

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like all the great and innovative features of this. It is easy to manage big data programmatically. All the features part are easy to use and understandable.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The user interface needs to improve. When the query is executed, it returns the number of query. The notebook feature is not user-friendly. The interface is straightforward.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us save a lot of costs. Massive data can be extracted easily. all function is necessary for data analysis. Support service is beneficial to me. Maintaining and cleaning big data very quickly.

  ### 2. Qubole is an amazing data lake platform for analytics

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Parth C. | Data Scientist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Qubole is an excellent self- service platform to host Big Data. The ease of managing data on S3 which can be the end place of data, coupled with Hadoop's HDFS system provide an ideal environment for ETL processes.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Qubole has fewer ETL tools in comparison to its competitors. Also, cluster management seemed to be a problem sometime. A feature that allows team members to share codes amongst them will also benefit analysts working in a team.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

It is an amazing data lake platform to access Big Data.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I worked on Qubole in a Hadoop environment and used Hive for querying on the data. We used S3 to store clients' sales data on the back-end. Considering our database had ~150mn rows of data, I was impressed by the querying speed, even when running multiple queries.

  ### 3. Qubole has degraded in quality very poorly

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Not happy with Qubole at all, it has degraded and is not a usable production-ready tool that performs without glitches. Qubole was bought over by some other company, their tools are not stable in a production environment, and don't have customizability.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Scheduling system is not reliable. As a company we used to have production jobs scheduled on Qubole scheduler, and most would fail for some reason or the other. This caused us to host our own Airflow instance.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Production ETL jobs, and machine learning projects at my school. Ease of use with notebook functionality is pretty good.

  ### 4. Qubole review

**Reviewed Date:** August 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

It is easy and simple interface. easy to connect AWS

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Error messages are not given properly when we are checking.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Accessing AWS BigData Cluster for BigData Insights

  ### 5. Great tool to manage Big Data.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ferdinand P. | Operations Lead, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2021

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

It is very easy to use and provides many choices with limited effort to retrieve data. For the EBS volume and the number of nodes, automated cluster termination to prevent waste, easy to turn between different languages such as Hive, Spark, Presto etc, I like the scalability function of Qubole. Clusters can be used well, registry is very fine.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Perhaps a slightly confusing structuring of alternatives contributes to time usage. Wide scrolling times are needed for the notebook. Like its rival Databricks, the laptop should be easy to use. Logic is not successful bootstrap script. Much like the library Databricks. To begin the cluster, it takes more time. Do you need some other Lambda price substitute for this.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Versatile and easy-to-use tool, use the trial time to buy that suits all your needs.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I can collect data in a very relaxed way by means of Qubole. It helped us save a great deal of money. The time required for processing was quicker, and resources were decreased due to Qubole. The scheduler is quick to set up jobs and the internal tables are saved, which are very handy when a workflow fails. The use of Qubole makes exchanging resources simpler. Spark Cluster launch. Launch. Works are executed. Using the scientific notebook.

  ### 6. Easy to implement and use tool.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mert D. | Senior Project Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 13, 2021

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like the very simple to comprehend and use interactive web interface for rapid analysis and creation of results. The best thing is to also view the distribution of services to your operating Spark workers through your Hadoop Cluster and your Spark Cluster. Any choice, whether it involves goods, individuals, systems, or relationships, can be driven by the data activation. To date, we have invested the most in helping organisations close the activation gap. It also offers a standard infrastructure that helps users to operate more easily on the best open source engines with the following ETL, analytics and AI/ML workloads,

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

I don't like that if I press on the Notebook again, the Tables drawer closes immediately. When clearly locked, the table drawer must be opened. Qubole focuses solely on activation of results. We allow you to process all sorts of data sets, whether structured, unstructured or semi-structured, to gather useful information and create artificial intelligence-based applications.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

My recommendation is to take the required time learning the method first and it is very easy to use all of the research and data creation once you're used to the Qubole interface. Qubole focuses solely on activation of results. We can manage all sorts of data sets to gain useful information, whether organized, unstructured or partly structured.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm solving problems by linking AWS through the Hadoop cluster. The advantage is that I can log in from my desktop and easily type a Hive or Pyspark code sample for fast review and presentation. The SQL notebook data download option is very useful for sample data presentation. The attention of the consumer is fantastic and a must. In addition, please try to get in state-of-the-art technicians. It will first aid us to avoid reinventing wheels. It is also inspiring along with other interesting stuff for engineering.

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Overall tool is good and so intuitive. And the the best part is when you are stuck somewhere there are support team how always above the expectitions.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Qubole should bring up speed in thee DL side and the spark updated more faster to attain customers. They do not have data catalog option where wee can have lineage etc.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

After the new era of bigdata and clod it always a hassle to find a tools which is cost effective and user friendly to use daily basis for data extraction till data science and big data needs. This tool has capability to give hassle free experience with quick help from support and very good technical architects available to help and serve you better .

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This tool help us in communicating the data lake, data warehouse and as well as provide us a platform for the data mining as well. Its easy to have one tool in place rather having multiple tools.

  ### 9. Quick big data analytics on Spark (PySpark) on Qubole Data Service

Easy to start QDS instead of waiting for 5 minutes to start similar Spark environment on AWS EMR

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Unable to control underlying infrastructure unlike EMR with SSH support. Not easy for getting logs

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

QDS is easy alternative to AWS EMR. If you're doing ad-hoc Big Data analytics, consider using Qubole. I like the ease with Qubole cluster comes in less than half a minute, than waiting for at least 5 minutes on EMR.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Big Data Investigation, Data Analytics, Data Quality on AWS S3 Landed (raw) and Conformed (processed) data.
Using Qubole as light-weight alternative to heavy-weight EMR cluster.

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like that it is very easy to get started with Qubole. If you want to experiment with data lakes a bit without investing a lot of time or energy into getting your data lake set up, Qubole is great. If you like what you see and then want to productize it, Qubole makes that easier to do as well.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

As with any tool that simplifies entry, it also abstracts out some of the edge cases you may find yourself wanting to use with your data lake.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Great for a quick startup, as with any new software service be ready to invest in some learning time

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Seamless Integration. Unparalleled Personalised Support.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The constant need to update services or request support for simpler things - don't get me wrong, the necessities are taken care of - just the smaller things need some finesse.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Understand the platform and learn from the tutorials + ask queries during the demonstration to help ease your access into the workings of the platform.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Model Compartmentalisation. Multiple Experiments. Continuous Changes and Runs of Models. Data Science Overview, Simplicity and Ease.

Benefits: Ease of Working and Scheduling; Complete Understanding of the Complicated Aspects of Data Science is covered with Qubole and the Support Team - with their professionalism in understanding the problem and their turn around time is something that makes Qubole stand out.

  ### 12. Qubole product review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Transportation/Trucking/Railroad | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Love the exquisite technology presented by Qubole, the products really meet the global standards.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

There is nothing much to dislike here, but I believe they lack some marketing boost towards promoting their products more openly.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using Qubole notebooks to perform Data analysis on my firm's huge chunks of sensory data generated from a couple of our products and thus helping my firm to understand evolving challenges of the business and make required decisions using the same knowledge.

  ### 13. A unified and scalable analytics platform

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Qubole's proprietary autoscaling is what really provides value - this has saved us significant cloud costs compared to other solutions, such as Amazon EMR. The managed service has also enabled us to run a cloud analytics platform with a much leaner operational support model.

In terms of features, Qubole's scheduler tool and UI have proved very popular among our analysts. This has enabled analysts to easily run and monitor their own processes, without relying on central data teams.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Some Qubole functionality remains relatively immature compared to some competitors. New beta features are regularly released, but don't always make it to a truly production-ready state.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Engage Qubole's teams to help understand the potential ROI. If you're running an existing solution, it's worth trying to run a POC or benchmark to understand whether there might be potential cost savings.

Also, it's worth engaging early with Qubole's onboarding teams so that they can understand your setup. We had a few security requirements which needed ironing out during the implementation stages.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Qubole has enabled our analysts to access and run queries against cloud data at petabyte scale. The combination of Hive, Spark and Presto engines has enabled a range of use cases, which otherwise would have required us to invest more resources in building and maintaining our own platform.

  ### 14. Quoble allows me to perform click stream analytics

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Vivek S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 13, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Realtime analytics on the click stream so as to provide best communication to the client and to upscale the product by revamping the UI based on which pages are being viewed the most giving better user experience.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The plethora of options present in quibble requires a significant learning curve

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As mentioned above, we are trying to leverage the click stream analytics to make our product better for the customers

  ### 15. Data engineer with 7 yrs of total experience

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

All under one roof. Whether it's spark or hive or presto or bash. Just choose the type of program you want to run and get going. The default cluster gets chosen automatically but you can change it accordingly.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Comparatively it takes time for even simple commands than running in console. Say if you are using scala REPL, it would return milliseconds to return some basic commands but in qubole for each run there is some initialisation which takes time

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use qubole for Analytics on data in cloud either by using spark or hive/presto, for jobs scheduling and running the jobs in qubole clusters

  ### 16. Implementation is incredibly Easy and also help reduce Cloud Costs

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian U. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Qubole is incredibly easy to use. We were able to implement our Big Data workloads very easily. We got great support from them during implementation. We are continuing to urge great support with our new projects and existing implementations. it's scaled with our increased needs for processing. the largest advantage is that it's reduced our cloud computing costs

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The product has the ability for interactive serverless query service and data science notebooks. it's not as feature-rich and compelling as other competitors. Hence, we are using other services for this purpose.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Qubole is a great platform for reducing cloud computing costs

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Qubole, we have been able to reduce the time to market our products and increase our work output rate. Qubole has generally increased our efficiency

  ### 17. big data buffet in your hands

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 09, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The ability to use various tech on the same platform like presto, hive, spark and more.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Something peculiar. It matters how the conditions in your where clause are arranged. It impacts the query speed to a large extent in spark queries.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Seamlessly working with big data coming in from many places and make it available across the organization with ease without having to depend on a single way working with the data.

  ### 18. Qubole Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gaurav M. | Senior Group Manager - IT, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 12, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

All great and innovative features of this

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

I do not see anything to dislike here. All Superb.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

machine learning, streaming, and ad-hoc analytics

  ### 19. Easy to use platform for spark provisioning

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Micah H. | Director, Data Engineering, Marketing and Advertising, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Qubole makes it very easy to manage big data clusters and interact with them programmatically. They offer a wide array of solutions to create an integrated platform in a number of different manners. We have leveraged their integrated Airflow and Spark capabilities (and abused them at times as well) and it has provided us the ability to scale rapidly while our platform was maturing.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

There is a fundamental lack of ability to reliably provide spot instances to large clusters and long-running clusters. There are also still a number of growing pains at the company around communication with customers that make the customer experience painful at times.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Understand their administration functionalities, IAM roles, BI data up-front. Make sure to measure and monitor platform usage closely from day 1 otherwise costs will quickly balloon out of control.

Do your homework and understand whether a fully integrated platform is what you actually need. In the case you do not need the full integrations, Qubole may not be worth the cost to your organization and there may be less-complex solutions out there.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have used Qubole to allow many different applications and pipelines to operate on big data independently of each other. Historically we operated on a single shared hadoop cluster and that reached it's limitations.

  ### 20. Qubole Review

2. Recent release are few unstable

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Yes

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Major benefit is cost savings.
Also, Presto recently has been amazing with Heterogeneous cluster settings.

  ### 21. Enterprise ready platform

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Self-serve nature that allows engineers to take over control of their workload. Reduces administrative bottleneck. Flexibility of changing cluster setup.Reduces administrative work to spin up and maintain clusters drastically. Easy to use UI and api. Good support provided by Qubole team. Helpful insight that keep improving. This platform is rather stable.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Not capable to monitor clusters, queries etc like we do any other resources in our infa. Reports and insights are good; however those are more for trending purpose.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Certainly do a POC with this platform to see for yourself.
Have an understanding of how Public Cloud works (infra and cost). Mostly for cost efficiency. Qubole works well with AWS

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Running reports, ML, aggregating data for commonly ran reports

  ### 22. CR Qubole Review

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Leisure, Travel & Tourism | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

1. Customer service and representatives. They are very patient, friendly and knowledgeable. They always show up on time for the office hours. The technical questions can be answered on the spot!
2. We can have the questions answered in a timely fashion using the support portal. Also, the support persons are following up on any questions we have using the Slack channel until the issue is solved!
3. The product is stable and continuously improving. The product release is communicated well to us.
4. We can use modern technologies such as Spark, Airflow etc. on Qubole.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

1. Cost. It would be great to have discounts on the cost for my organization. We are small org and would like to cut down the cost as much as we can.

2. Also, I would like Qubole to release new features as often as possible. For example, integrating Jupyter: our data scientists are waiting for this.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

1. We are using Qubole for data ETL jobs with schedulers.
2. The clusters can be scale up and down. It makes our job much easy on the execution side.
3. Our Data Scientists also use Notebooks for their ML model.
4. We use Qubole to set up ML pipeline for the execution.
5. The good aspect of using Qubole is the easy to use, one place to track all the jobs and track the status with logs etc. etc.

  ### 24. Best tool for scaling data without additional overhead

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Taoreed O. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Qubole provides uninterrupted analysis of data regardless of the number and types of jobs being carried out, it also allows for the scaling of data and users without any additional cost.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Fewer tools are provided for moving data between Hadoop file system

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Qubole is a really good tool to use when getting started with the analysis of data in the cloud

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I personally use Qubole to analyze big data and use it to scale data depends on it size.

  ### 25. Disastrous updates, but good support

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The support team at Qubole is very helpful. They do their best to help figure out the problem you have. However, there are times when we get a "cannot reproduce" reply, which is frustrating.

Qubole does listen to its customers and they release features that customers ask for (a case for me was separating the master node and minimum nodes spot/on-demand composition for AWS).

Qubole is also convenient and easy to use. The setup is very quick, and reconfiguring clusters is very easy. Just a few clicks and you can resize or change your spark version.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

When there is a new feature release (Like the workbench or the new beta notebook interface), they remain in beta for a very long time. Furthermore, I have experienced with those two particular interfaces some basic errors, that if someone used the interface extensively, they would have found. It almost feels like there is no alpha release where the internal staff is asked to use those interfaces for their daily work.

About the updates, when R57 was deployed, we had a disastrous week of trying to figure out why things are failing, only to find out that Qubole has updated some of the backend stuff to be not backwards compatible, all this was done WITHOUT A WARNING!

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Easy to setup and start. They even help you manage your cost.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It saves time when it comes to provisioning infrastructure. It also provides an easy to use interface for big data management tools.

  ### 26. Great Tool for Big Data Analytics

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rijul S. | Process Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like the interactive web interface which is very easy to understand and use for quick data analysis and development. The best part is that you can even see your Hadoop clusters and your spark clusters resource allocation for your running Spark Jobs.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

i don not like the Tables drawer automatically closes down when i click again on the Notebook. the tables drawer should be opened until it is closed explicitly

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

My advice is to give more time or spend more time in understanding the tool first once you are accustomed with the web interface of qubole it will be very easy to do all your data analyses and developments

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Consumer Analytics Business challenges. Benefits i get from using this is that i can login anywhere from my laptop and quickly write sample piece of Hive or Pyspark code for fast analysis and presentation. the data download option from SQL notebooks is really help full to present sample data.

  ### 27. I have heard good things but did not use it.

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 07, 2020

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Data Lake Platform but I am yet to use it.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Not sure how it integrates with the other tools.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NA

  ### 28. Good functionality for sharing, not great for saving versions

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristen W. | Senior Business Analyst, Internet, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The ability to view my peers' code is really helpful. I've needed to check code from people who have left the company. The ability to join across databases is helpful. The scheduler is helpful too. It's a seamless scheduler. I like the ability to use many different channels and cadences in it.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The versioning in qubole something that could be improved. I accidentally save over my work. I also need some training on the new Analyze Beta. I've shared qubole links and didn't realize the code would continue changing, so the files I generated were useless for sharing. It would be helpful to understand when to use history and when to use workspace. I also don't know how to save things in Analyze Beta.
I'd like to see some youtube training on notebooks. One great thing about tableau and excel is the amount of youtube videos. It's not easy to find solutions for qubole. Can you incentivize power users to create forums like tableau?
I know there are limitations with qubole/tableau. that's a big pain point. I always get tableau errors and warnings.
The drag and drop field names could be improved, or maybe I need training. It feels like autocomplete picks up fields from other tables, it would be helpful to have more training on why it's selecting those. Often the drag and drops puts fields in the wrong place (not where my cursor is).

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use qubole to analyze metrics and show them in tableau. I consolidate many different data sources and view our listing and site performance. A big benefit is the scheduler is really easy to use. I like that this is all in one space.
The biggest benefit I've seen is the ability to view teammates' code.

  ### 29. Qubole: Great tool with room for improvement

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Robert R. | Intern, Nanotechnology, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like the flexibility of resources available for jobs (no out-of-memory errors) and the ability to easily switch between languages within the same notebook. Also, Qubole explore is great for looking at our company's hive metastore.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

I think the user interface needs improvement. The webapp is often slow to respond (lags behind user input), but controls are not designed with this in mind. Additionally, cancelling jobs is difficult and the pause button rarely works - i usually have to restart the notebook directly.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

If you accidentally submitted a spark job, you are gonna need to restart the interpreter. If you are getting any weird behavior, restart your interpreter :)

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am building the backend for a debugging tool. I use Qubole to develop and debug my SQL and pyspark scripts side-by-side to ensure that my scripts do what I want. Being able to work with both languages in the same environment saves a lot of time. I don't know how else I would test my pyspark scripts.

  ### 30. Qubole review from Data Science Intern

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pratik L. | Data Science Intern, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

1. Easy change between different clusters. 2. Easy access to change tabs between presto, hive, etc.
3. Good UX. 4. Errors are easy to understand and rectify. 5. Historically executed queries are easy to access and re-execute

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

1. When query is executed it should also return number of rows returned by the query. Because we always need to write another outer query to count number of rows.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

If you want to analysis data quickly and efficiently then Qubole is what you are looking for:)

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am actively using qubole for data analysis taak. I run at least 20 queries / day. I am addicted to it. Most important benefit from qubole is that if the query has errors then the qubole compiler shows errors in easy to understand way.

  ### 31. Easy to manage the queries

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lingjing S. | Senior Data Analyst, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

1. Qubole saves all the queries you have run in time desc order. It is very easy to browse the history and reuse them. You can even save queries with name so that it is very easy to reuse.
2. All queries that have run have unique links. So it is easy to share with your colleagues.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

It is not that easy to do analytical work based on the result of the query. For example, not so many different type of charts are supported in the UI. Our company is considering moving away from Qubole to Mode since it provides more analytical support that will make engineers doing analytics and sharing works more easily.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using Qubole for ad-hoc analytical stuff.

  ### 32. Review for Qubole

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Richard W. | Data Scientist - Mapping, Internet, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like the Spark notebook feature and also the UI for running queries and shell script. It's much more user-friendly than the terminal. The ability to filter and look at your past jobs is also very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Accessing why spark jobs failed. I need to click through multiple pages (resources -> clusters -> resource manager) then open up apache spark to see the actual logs of why a job failed.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Would recommend to those who want's to run queries/spark jobs on aws clusters.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The Spark notebook allows me to proto type spark job and scala code before putting them into a data pipeline. It also allows me to monitor jobs that are submitted by workflows and debug error if there are any.

  ### 33. Has some issues but gets the job done

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raghu D. | Data Scientist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Autoscaling is nice, nice that Presto and Hive are supported, Airflow integration is cool

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Support could be a little faster at times, Notebooks are rather iffy

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Definitely weigh the needs compared to other options such as EMR and DataBricks. EMR is a little too bare-bones and lacks lots of useful features, and while DataBricks is perhaps the most polished, autoscaling limitations and less responsive support are points to consider. If your team has people who can spend the time to wrangle the data and the software to make it suit your needs, Qubole is a good option.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Enabled us to analyze hundreds of billions of rows with relative ease. Been able to unlock new data insights and roll out additional products.

  ### 34. Review for Qubole

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

Qubole is singularly focused on data activation. We empower you to process all types of data sets — whether structured, unstructured, or semi-structured — to derive rich insights and develop artificial intelligence–based applications.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Qubole is singularly focused on data activation. We empower you to process all types of data sets — whether structured, unstructured, or semi-structured — to derive rich insights and develop artificial intelligence–based applications.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm solving problems of having AWS connected via Hadoop Cluster.

Customer focus is great and must have. Along with that please put some efforts on onboarding cutting edge techs. First it can help us not reinventing wheels. It will also be one of the motivating factors for engineering along with other cool stuff

  ### 35. Excellent Cloud Data Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sandeep K. | Sr Data Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Spinning up clusters within minutes is what the best offered by Qubole. Ability to create multiple data sources connections. We are also able to run our Spark programs. Notebooks serve the criticial purpose for our data pipelines to be tested. Using notebooks we also do perform our testing to see how the data is getting transformed during our ETL process.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The notebooks feature is what not user friendly.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Qubole is the best Cloud Data Platform that is available in the current market.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Instead of spinning up EMR cluster on AWS we are using Qubole to spin up the clusters and are running our data pipelines. We have also created Snowflake data stores in Qubole.

  ### 36. Technical Platform Specialist using Qubole for Analytics purposes

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stanislav M. | Technical Platform Specialist, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I like the way how easily tables are available for sorting and search in the new Analyze tab. Really cool that finally we got an option to multiply open the tables content (columns) and review it. Search became also better and easier to use in a new updated version.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

1) I can't see the progress percentage of the query I am running in new Analyze version. In old version it was more clear which part of the query is already processed.
2) I submitted once a ticket about cursor being invisible in new Analyze tab, but support resolved it by just simple "clean cache and cookies" advice. It worked fine for couple of days but then problem returned again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . I didn't raise this issue again, but from time to time struggling because of it :(

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Make sure you are placing right data in right tables and create as many tables as you need, just to make the querying process easier for everyone, as it takes less resources of the software to get you the right data. It helps to save time and will not break any important project you are working on and which has to be done soon.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to compare multiple tables with multiple data, what is pretty important for our Support team. In online marketing it is important to compare different metrics from different reports to troubleshoot, for example, discrepancies with clients.

  ### 37. Easy and intuitive to use

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Qasim M. | Senior Specialist, PSO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I'm easily able to organize data into clusters. I like that commands can easily be stored and reused when need be. I can also make spark jobs really easily and pull all the variables into a single table set. Storing the code also makes it easy to re-reun reports when need be.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Depending on how many things you have open, it can be slow sometimes. It's easy to get crowded with how much data you can be combing through at a single time so if i could see different tables as pop-outs to quickly reference, that would make it a lot easier to work across multiple table sets.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Anything to increase speed of processing the data would be great. Increased features to organize data would also be great.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Currently we're solving for being able to pull data easily from multiples sources and be able to both aggregate it and also then manipulate the data to comb through insights easily and efficiently. The major benefits are that we can integrate with the different APIs easily and then pull across them with no issue. Another major benefit is that i can organize all of my commands and then re-use them as often as i need to. The table merger can also be very useful however i haven't been able to fully harness the power of it. Hoping that i'll be able to continue using it and finding new ways to use it.

  ### 38. Qubole: Making Data Analysis Easier

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Qubole allows us to analyze the in-app media and marketing support that we are deploying in unique ways. We are able to delve into funnel analyses that allow us to create a positive sell story for client's who have invested in these media and marketing placements which is highly valuable for my team.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The fact that you have to enable interactive mode is a bit frustrating due to the delay it causes when creating reports. We also have several users using a single interface at any given time and it creates significant lags. It's also frustrating that certain fields must be adjusted before others because if they are not then the data begins pulling before you have inputted all of the dimensions necessary for the pull. Then you have to wait until it's completely pulled the incorrect data before you can update the fields you need to adjust.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Analysis of the success of in-app media and marketing products

  ### 39. Qubole - One place user friendly solution for all your big data needs

1. Scalability feature of Qubole for both EBS volume count and number of nodes
2. Auto termination of clusters to save wastage
3. Easy to switch between various languages like Hive, Spark,Presto etc

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

The things I dislike most are :

1. The notebook is slow to load and scroll
2. The notebook needs to be made user-friendly like its competitor Databricks

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Qubole has helped us save a lot of costs. The processing time has become faster and the wastage of resources has been minimized thanks to qubole. Its easy to set up jobs using the scheduler and the internal tables are also stored which are extremely helpful when a workflow fails in middle.
Sharing resources is made easier thanks to qubole.
Presto engine helped us make our Tableau dashboards lot faster!

  ### 42. Extensive User of Qubole

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sai Shakti D. | Analytics Consultant, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I love the Qubole Data Service Documentation, it has helped me a lot.

I also like the overall experience on Qubole platform from a usage point of view.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Sometime I struggle with installing packages (especially for R) on Qubole environment. I wish it was more simpler to use.
I feel passing external spark packages on Notebooks is little tedious than compared to Analyze tab.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I work in analytics team. My daily work includes heavy usage of Spark and Hive to engineer the data.

The benefit with Qubole, which I like is that it brings all the BigData ecosystem component together.

  ### 44. Qubole make data simpler

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arun kumar G. | Manager, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Scheduling of query and getting the data on email is great advantage, also to write and modify queries is simple and easy.
Huge data download is very possible with qubole where as not with others like snowflakes.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Nothing encountered so far....
But wanted to add something like find and replace function to change date and text would help.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Highly recommended to go for it...

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Huge data which are in json, can be extracted easily and reports gets generated in a minute time, where are in mysql we cannot do this.
Qubole saves times a lot.

  ### 45. A strong platform for analytics professionals to access and analyze data

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pouria N. | Manager, Analysis, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

Qubole is a very strong platform with countless opportunists to analyze and share work. UI is surely a highlight in this tool; very user-friendly and accessible.
Also SSO integration was another highlight for us; there are similar software with several complexities, but not a case for Qubole.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Training materials for this software was a challenge for us; the user-community was not that strong however the Qubole team has created so much high-quality contents for users.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

best of luck!

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly cross-data sources analysis, sharing queries and workbooks.

  ### 46. Great for managing your compute resources and giving end-users an interface

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

As an end-user, Qubole has been a magnificent interface to access the managed clusters. Having a history of queries is super helpful, and the API is basic but well thought out. Scheduler is also barebones, but works. Having a permalink to share with coworkers has been a game changer for me.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Search is terrible, and since we've migrated to their new servers, the speed has been atrocious. Some of the peripheral features are quite barebones and seem like an after thought, but I'm still giving a 9 because I attribute these to just roadmap prioritization of a small company. They're on the right track and in a year or two, these concerns of mine will be non-existent.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Sharing results, running queries, scaling clusters

  ### 47. Excellent features but a bit unstable

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rohan R. | Team Lead, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The breadth of features & tools available.
You have relevant set of products for a varied set of big data requirements and makes it a one stop shop for all your big data needs.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Stability of many new tools and features in general.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Price is the most important point for me, where qubole shines. The offerings are priced at reasonable rates. Most of our requirements functionally are supported in one platform. This is a great thing. For e.g. Presto, Airflow, Notebooks, Quest Streaming Pipelines.

  ### 48. Extremely useful tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

I used qubole for a big data assignment and haven’t second guessed it since. Be it ML or big data analysis its my go to tool majorly because it has so many options to go about a problem and is easy to use once you familiarise yourself with the tool.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

I believe the Website is slightly cluttered hence making it difficult to figure out. However this was my issue only in the beginning and once i took some time to understand its a cakewalk.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Have patience and go for it!

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Big data analysis assignments. I’ve realised that Qubole has very educative solutions as well as an attentive customer service which makes your experience much smoother.

  ### 49. Platform allows for effective data lake development, without many bells and whistles.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chad F. | Machine Learning Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 15, 2019

**What do you like best about Qubole?**

The API works well. We use it to submit scheduled jobs via Airflow. Notebooks are useful for development, and spark applications submitted via the API and executed in Analyze is the best way to run scheduled pipelines.

**What do you dislike about Qubole?**

Customer service fails to solve problems we have; Qubole product development seems more focused on building features we won't use.
Qubole has been slow to support up to date versions of hive, spark, python.
Spark jobs run on Qubole but any data related challenges aren't addressed.

**Recommendations to others considering Qubole:**

Consider Databricks.

**What problems is Qubole solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're building machine learning models that serve recommender systems for our mobile app. We also execute large ETL pipelines that serves data to the rest of the Analytics department.

  ### 50. Qubole Data Service (QDS)
