It has been fairly reliable with only a few false positives. The interface is intuitive and easy to use and the daily spam journal emails are a nice feature. **What do you dislike about Proofpoint Essentials for Small Business?** In the 7+ years that we have been using the system, there have been several outages that prevented our clients from receiving email. In some cases, the email was not just delayed, but permanently lost. Attachment scanning can take longer than expected sometimes. I have waited up to 15 minutes for an email with a simple PDF attached to be released. Proofpoint gave me all three at a price we could afford. Other bundles I considered either included too many features (driving the price up), or they didn't include all of the things I wanted. So this was just the perfect fit for us. On-boarding was pretty smooth. We recently migrated to Office 365, and we had to configure our account so our old spam filter could send non-quarantined emails. That experience probably helped to make this onboarding process a little smoother. But I don't want to take away from the onboarding people at Proofpoint. They are good at this! Tech support is very responsive. No kidding, you call the support number and an actual tech answers the phone! No tier 1 person answering the phone. They answer the phone and dive right into the solution, awesome! If there is a wait time, just request a call back (automated). I've never waited more than 10 minutes. Our email gateway is now in the cloud with Proofpoint, so if our HQ is down, email keeps flowing. The catch rate on both spam and phishing emails is better than our previous spam filter, which was highly rated for its catch rate (catch rate on phishing emails is now much better). Global Allow and Block lists are easy to add/change/delete, and we were able to import the lists from our old solution. Proofpoint uses "Filter Policies," whereas our old solution used "regular expressions," which are difficult at best. These filters are pretty easy to set up and are very flexible. Using variations of these filters, I can easily prevent senders from spoofing key people in the organization, and I can allow our Mailchimp emails to get through while still blocking all other Mailchimp emails, and so on. Lots of options. The email log is also very usable. I can search just quarantined emails, or all emails, or select one of several other options. I can filter by sender, recipient, or subject. You can also add senders, or entire domains to the Allow list, right from the log view. Of course, you can release emails from quarantine from this view as well. If you have several as a result of a search, you can release them all at one time. Email encryption! We have been using third-party products, but no more. Now we can install a plug-in for Outlook, and the encrypt option is right there for the user to choose when they wish. I can also select criteria, and trigger an encryption automatically (like an email that contains a credit card or social security number). There are other features, other things to like. It is a full-featured solution, borrowing much of its technology from Proofpoint's more expensive enterprise solutions. **What do you dislike about Proofpoint Essentials for Small Business?** Even though I have experience sending out phishing campaigns with a different product, I've not been able to muddle through that part of Proofpoint Essentials yet. I've tried a couple of times, but I've gotten bogged down with the training/learning part. Learning the previous solution was pretty difficult too, so this is probably an unfair "dislike," but I do dislike things that are hard! **What problems is Proofpoint Essentials for Small Business solving and how is that benefiting you?** Next time the power in this area goes out, the executive team will love that emails are still hitting their smartphones, and they have full access to emails via office.com using any browser. Communications will be much better. We used to get a lot of phishing emails. Emails telling employees their password in Office 365 needed to be changed, or they can release quarantined emails, and so on. Proofpoint is catching all of these, much better than our old spam filter, which caught spam pretty well, but was not so good on phishing emails. The Filter Policies have allowed me to finally solve some problems I couldn't solve with the old spam filter. That filter required too much time and effort, so I just had to live with some of the issues (like our marketing department using Mailchimp to send email campaigns, which the old filter would block). Filter policies do require some knowledge and ability, but it is much easier than the old spam filter. And again, tech support can get right into your portal, see your email, your issue, and they'll create the filter for you. You can copy any existing filter, so creating a new filter is usually not a "from scratch" process. ### 8. The fact you can also sync to Azure AD, AD or upload manually gives the flexibility to handle pretty much any email scenario out there. The quarantine notification with preview and release options direct in the user email set it apart from many of its competitors, (although many are scrambling to add that feature, or so they assure me). **What do you dislike about Proofpoint Essentials for Small Business?** I don't like that you can't delete emails from quarantine. When I get a quarantine digest I'd prefer to be able to delete, or at least mark that I've acknowledged and discarded an email. Currently there is no way to do that. I'd like the ability to link SMTP discovery with AzureAD Sync so that I can manage multiple mail flows for a single client in one customer account. Earlier we were using Trend micro email security and i find proof point much better in terms of spam detection and protecting the endpoints form clicking on unwanted links in the mails. Since its a cloud product the loading time of the interface may take some time , at times i find the UI very run responsive but that will not be a issue as it will be temporary for some minutes **What do you dislike about Proofpoint Essentials for Small Business?** I can't say it as a demerit but what i dislike the most with proof point is that for quarantined mails bulk delete option is shown and sometimes some bulk mails getting listed in the quarantined folder needs to be deleted one by one. like if am getting multiple spam mails from a single mail id i should be given the option to deleted the same . I have mine set to twice a day, just so I can review smaller amounts of quarantined mail in case something that requires immediate attention has gotten scooped up. That has only happened once or twice in the three or four years we have used Proofpoint. Of course, you can set it to receive less often, too. Normally, I don't even have to log onto the site, as the notification email has enough detail about quarantined items for me to determine they can be ignored. Not having to click to to take a closer look at those items is a time saver. **What do you dislike about Proofpoint Essentials for Small Business?** There's really not much I dislike... Sorry, can't really think of one thing. It did take a little time for me to teach myself to navigate the site in order to search for quarantined items, but by that, I mean a couple of minutes. But overall, it's pretty intuitive to use. Normally, I don't even have to log into the site, as the email notifications I receive provide enough information for me to determine that everything there is spam that I can ignore. **Recommendations to others considering Proofpoint Essentials for Small Business:** Overall, I think this is a great product that saves time and reduces the possibility of an employee clicking on unsafe emails or links. It has an intuitive interface and allows users to control how often they receive notifications about quarantined emails. The benefits are obviously less time wasted combing through emails to delete, delete, delete. With Proofpoint, you can just review what has been quarantined, preview what might not easily be identifiable as junk or irrelevant clutter, and release anything that may be actually important (hardly ever happens). I will typically tell the software to block a sender that has been sending me information, but it wont actually block them, I have to allow it through, and then block them myself through my personal email, to actually stop getting emails from them, otherwise, every single day, I will get the SAME email that I already asked it to block and remove popping back up, along with others, most of the time from the same source. Proofpoint will miss most actual spam messages, and block unnecessary messages. When I ask it to approve an email message, then it has to go through yet another scan before it can be sent to my inbox, it doesn't actually release it half of the time, even though it is an email I am expecting. **What problems is Proofpoint Essentials for Small Business solving and how is that benefiting you?** Zero.
