The ability to customize the product is also a huge advantage over competitors. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** Only downside is cost to add other PowerSchool products to the platform. The fact that they are also based on a per student cost, in addition to the SIS cost, makes it difficult if you have a large student population. **Recommendations to others considering PowerSchool SIS:** Look carefully at your needs...however, PowerSchool SIS is one of the better more forward thinking SIS products out there. I find it helpful to be able to sort students in a variety of ways, from last name to grade level. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** Often times I am not able to get the reports that I am looking for. I will attempt to run them, and they never show up with the data I am after. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am able to find the students I need quickly with PowerSchool search features, which saves me time and energy. It is a monster of an SIS system. Working in PowerSchool is challenging but yet rewarding once you learn how to use the system. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** Need more training that does not cost an arm and leg. Small district cannot afford to send staff out of state to attend PSU events. I feel PSU should be offered in different locations than the year before. This may allow other district to take advantage of training. If you don't get the training, you are on the phone with support or making mistakes that have to be cleaned up. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Learning how to use DDE or Data Extract to pull data needed. Once you learn this, it is nice to pull the data your directors may need. ### 5. All classes are in one easy to access place where you can see grades, assignments that are not complete and also see notes about assignments. Teachers' emails are in one easy to find place where you can email everyone at once if needed. All absences are recorded and it is easy to look at all absences for the year. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am easily able to check on a student's progress in class, see grades and projects that are incomplete. I found that there is an easily accessible list of all teachers' email addresses so everyone can be emailed at once. ### 6. Oracle is a stable, robust, and reliable platform. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** The disruption of service as PowerSchool acquires more products and integrates them into the existing SIS platform is frustrating. For example, InfoSnap Registration was acquired, but the integration process needs work as PowerSchool developers are not communicating well with the Registration developers. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** State Reporting accuracy and SIF data transference to dozens of other systems are some of our largest benefits at this time. ### 7. I think it's on its way to be a wonderful program! **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** I don't like it when I call or chat with a rep and they can't figure out what is wrong so they escalate the case. The contacts page, does solve that, but it is difficult to get my staff to go to Contacts. **Recommendations to others considering PowerSchool SIS:** I have been a PS administrator/user since 1999-2000 and there have been many upgrades and changes. I understand how rich it is with all its features, but I would like a more friendly interface for the user. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** It's not self-explanatory and it should offer in training videos for initial use. **Recommendations to others considering PowerSchool SIS:** Try to use it first, then get training for it and then try to use it again. PowerTeacher Pro is a great gradebook. Love the new grade transfer feature! **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** PowerSchool needs better infrastructure for co-teachers. As a PowerSchool Administrator, I wish error messages were more helpful. The test results tables should be cleaner (organized in fewer tables). **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Last year we used PowerSchool to start our Civil Rights Data Collection reporting. It is a really straightforward system that is easy to use and easy to train people on. There are so many available modifications that you can make to use the system exactly as you need it. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** Sometimes getting help from tech support is difficult because of the language barrier and their lack of patience to really go through an issue to replicate it. Usually when they roll out a new update, I have a lot of problems with getting HTTP error messages that it will usually take a few days to fix. Also, the CRDC report doesn't seem to match the logic that the CRDC report requests, but that's only reported once every two years. **Recommendations to others considering PowerSchool SIS:** Definitely combine the PowerSchool SIS with PS Registration to get the most out of the program. I would also attend PowerSchool University to really get into how you can maximize PS utilization. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** One benefit that we have is that we use PS Registration and it delivers the student registration data directly to PS - minimizing the use of paper forms, and almost eliminating a lot of errors due to poor handwriting. ### 15. The support staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, and available! Very user friendly. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** There isn’t much that I dislike, PowerSchool listens to any concerns and makes any changes necessary to make PowerSchool SIS the best for all customers. **What problems is PowerSchool SIS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our GPA calculations have been figuring incorrect. This application makes my job extremely simple being I support several instances of PowerSchool and each has their own flavor of reports they need. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** I don't really care for the DDA module. It is very functional, and contains a diversity of tools in order to work with, organize, and analyze data. **What do you dislike about PowerSchool SIS?** It is way too complex, so the learning curve takes time. When synced to Unified Classroom it turns way harder to use. It is hard to contact support, we've had cases where it takes them longer to solve the issue, and we decide to redo the whole thing. **Recommendations to others considering PowerSchool SIS:** Implementation and learning curve takes time and patience. It is complex when associated with Unified Classroom. It also helps us keep track of the standards mastered. From a teacher's perspective, this is incredibly helpful. For example, I want my students' grades to always be calculated by percentage. For that to happen, I need to go into every subject every single quarter and manually change that setting. I can see if my child has any missing assignments or assignments that were poorly done. My children can also log in to check on their progress, so that can take responsibility for themselves. As a teacher, it helps me communicate with parents on their child's current performance. The reporting features are also especially helpful when trying to find missing assignments or obtain specific grading data. It allows me to weight different categories and terms so that I can customize my class exactly how I want it.
