## About Pocket
Pocket was a widely acclaimed read-it-later application that enabled users to save articles, videos, and other web content for offline access across multiple devices. Launched in 2007 as "Read It Later," it evolved into a platform that not only facilitated content saving but also offered personalized recommendations, enhancing users' reading experiences. In May 2025, Mozilla announced the discontinuation of Pocket, with the service officially shutting down on July 8, 2025. Key Features and Functionality: - Content Saving: Users could effortlessly save web pages, articles, and videos to their Pocket account for later viewing. - Offline Access: Saved content was accessible without an internet connection, allowing users to read or watch materials anytime, anywhere. - Cross-Device Synchronization: Pocket synchronized saved items across various devices, including smartphones, tablets, and computers, ensuring a seamless reading experience. - Personalized Recommendations: The platform provided tailored content suggestions based on users' reading habits, helping them discover new and relevant materials. - Text-to-Speech Functionality: Pocket offered a "Listen" feature that converted articles into audio, enabling users to consume content hands-free. Primary Value and User Solutions: Pocket addressed the challenge of information overload by allowing users to curate their own reading lists, ensuring they never missed valuable content. Its offline access feature was particularly beneficial for individuals with limited or intermittent internet connectivity. By offering a distraction-free reading environment and personalized recommendations, Pocket enhanced users' ability to focus on and engage with content that mattered most to them.

 ### 2. Seamless and Simple, But Needs Better Organization Features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Pocket?**

It was way more seamless and easy to organize and use than its counterparty Instapaper. Used it weekly to organize my articles to review during the weekend. Super simple to implement

**What do you dislike about Pocket?**

Wished it could be easier to organize than it was, cause in the end it was a bit messy. Something like, being able to create automatically folders by type which are easily organized would have been helpful

**What problems is Pocket solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Saving articles and websites to read in the weekend plus having a library of good things read in the past

 ### 3. Unintuitive Read-It-Later App

**Rating:** 2.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Michael L. | Pastor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Pocket?**

Pocket was my first read-it-later app. I was excited to save an article from a browser and read it later in the Pocket app. The most important thing it did for me was to save my attention to what was most important; i.e., it kept me from following rabbit holes, something that's easy to do online.

**What do you dislike about Pocket?**

Although I was grateful for Pocket, it felt unintuitive and wieldy. You could "like" something and make it your favorite. You could archive. All nice features. But at the time, it didn't link to the Readwise app, which seems important for knowledge managment. Furthermore, Instapaper allows a reader to take notes, which Pocket does not.

**What problems is Pocket solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Pocket helped solve the problem of distraction by allowing me to save articles, websites, etc. for reading later when time is allotted for that. By saving articles for later, I could keep my attention on what was important for me to be doing then. Rabbit holes are the deadly rival of keeping your attention on what's most important.

 ### 4. Absolutely love it! I use it to save Articles so I can come back to them later!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prabhjit S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Pocket?**

As a Tech Content Writer I have to work on a lot of "How-to" guides for which I need inspiration from the articles that are already published on the web. Pocket makes it easy to save or bookmark these articles so I can visit those links later and continue working on my articles. In addition, the best part is I can access them on both mobile and laptop making it easy to work on the go. They also have excellent customer support and all your doubts will be solved fast real soon. Overall I love the product and I'll recommend it to anyone who's thinking about giving it a try to save their work.

**What do you dislike about Pocket?**

Nothing as such! The team is working hard to make the product as good as possible. Quite satisfied with it's usabilty.

**What problems is Pocket solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Allows me to keep my bookmarks organized all in one place making it easy to access them later when I want to work.

The most helpful thing about Pocket is that I can organize learning-enhancing sources from all over the internet. I can save videos, articles, memes, gifs, all in one easy place for myself and my students to access. I also like that I can communicate with my students and parents through the app.

**What problems is Pocket solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A problem that I am solving with Pocket is the ease of organiziation. I used to create slide shows with links to my sources; however, with Pocket, it integrates my internet sources in a much more user-friendly way.

**Reviewed by:** Harry M. S. | Web Designer , Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Pocket?**

One of my favorite applications, which I always use on my devices, I tend to be one of those people, who want to read everything they find on the internet, something like a chain reader, but unfortunately, I do not always have the time to read everything what I want, when I want it, so pocket is my salvation, I can save all the content I want in this application, to review it and read it later, which becomes a trunk of articles for me, something like my personalized library of what I want to read on the web, it is also ideal to save other types of content, such as videos from YouTube, or posts from a particular website.

**What do you dislike about Pocket?**

Well, something that one expects from this type of applications, is that they do not always stay with the same thing, but somehow, surprise you, and one day or another, you will have the application and find something new, but with pocket this does not happen For a long time, during the last years, the application has always maintained its main function, I would like you to make some agreement with some magazines or newspapers in particular, and become a library of articles that one finds in these newspapers, but creating a special category, as I do not know, the most important science and technology news of the last week, which has been written in the most important newspapers.

**Recommendations to others considering Pocket:**

There is no other application that has the features that present pocket, it is as if you had your own personalized library on the web.

**What problems is Pocket solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This for me has become a personal library where I can create categories and organize in my own way, all the content that I want to see later, this helps me to have always fresh content, for the development of new ideas and the implementation of new content, on the websites that I'm working on.

**Reviewed Date:** March 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Pocket?**

I use Pocket to organize things I'd like to come back to, instead of keeping them all as open tabs in my browser so I don't forget about them. I can set tags for the things I save, so I can save everything from blog post ideas to recipes I want to make.

**What do you dislike about Pocket?**

Sometimes the app only saves part of an article, which means I have to pull the full thing up on the website. It provides a link at least, but it would be annoying if I were offline.

**What do you dislike about Pocket?**

I dislike that I can't add my own personal tags to my recommended articles - as in it would be very helpful to be able to search for topics I'm interested in like Christian Living, Autonomous Vehicles, International Relations, Productivity, etc.

**What problems is Pocket solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Currently, Pocket provides an opportunity for R&R. It is an "infinity pool" in that the refresh means I can waste however much time I want on the service. Benefits are that I have great curated articles to read - a lot of learning to do.

Good way to store articles to read offline (like when you're stuck on the subway underground with no service).

**Recommendations to others considering Pocket:**

Super easy to use and is a lifesaver in a variety of situations (from being stuck on the subway to social situations where you don't want to interact with people and need a reason to look busy on your phone). Highly recommend.

**What problems is Pocket solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's a good way to bookmark things to read/share later and they're always accessible since you don't need to be online to read them.

 ### 30. Little hand to your content curation process

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Recreational Facilities and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 12, 2019

**What do you like best about Pocket?**

I like having the possibility of saving interesting articles for later and access them on my computer, phone, tablet or web. The inside features are also interesting, allowing you to organize your saved links, tag them, a very friendly interface for reading the articles too. The web-based version also recommends new content based on your saved items. Great help for curious people and content curators.

I miss a notifications system that notifies the user periodically (daily, weekly...) how many saved items during the time period.

**What problems is Pocket solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Content curation especially. There is a need to be on top of trends and news, and also, to manage the overload of information and Pocket definitely helps that.

**What do you like best about Pocket?**

I love that the tool allows you to save articles you find online in one easy place to refer back to. I am notorious for opening a million tabs and then leaving them open even when I am done because the information I found there was useful and I might want to refer back to it. Needless to say I rarely do but I still don't close the tabs leading to a very cluttered window.

**What do you dislike about Pocket?**

Getting setup and learning the site was difficult and although I could manage my way around, it was not intuitive.

**What problems is Pocket solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As I said above I always leave my work window cluttered with a multitude of tabs. By having pocket I have minimized the amount of tabs that I have open on my computer and have a much easier time finding those sites and articles that were helpful when I do need them again or want a refresher on something that was said.
