Good application, inflexible licensing model **Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Dave S. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2025 **What do you like best about Pearl?** When it works, Pearl is a great tool for delivering online lessons, and proves to be a bit more effective than Zoom. **What do you dislike about Pearl?** Inflexible licensing model. The number of our tutors fluctuates throughout the year, which leads to adjusting our licensing scenarios with our other applications such as TutorBird, Zoom, etc....but not with Pearl. They charge for the highest number of tutors during our peak season, and will not back off of that during low-season months. This is a choice they make, and it could be a better one. Based on my experience with other applications -including the eight years I've owned this business, and my 25+ years selling software for fortune 100 IT companies, they have the most inflexible model I have ever experienced. If you are a smaller business, I would look elsewhere. **What problems is Pearl solving and how is that benefiting you?** Easier integration with school, more streamlined teaching experience as compared to standard applications for virtual tutoring. ### 2. I like that I can switch between screens as needed. This helps keep my students focused. When I used Miro the kids would get distracted by the expansive white board and all its features. **What do you dislike about Pearl?** I wish I could do invoices and not be required to use their payment methods. Most of my clients pay using Venmo and I am not charged a fee. I use tutor bird for my invoicing so I don't have to worry about a service fee. I also wish I could do snap shots of the interactive white board. You can only do that on the type board. The onboarding parents say is tricky. If families have multiple students it can be problematic for the onboarding. **What problems is Pearl solving and how is that benefiting you?** Being able to provide webcast lessons in a streamlined way. I love being able to use one platform for both the white board and video. ### 3. At the same time, improvements are made, so if there are any dislikes or concerns, they are corrected or improved quickly. **What problems is Pearl solving and how is that benefiting you?** With Covid, Pearl saved my business while providing a tool to allow us to provide virtual instruction to students in desperate need of academic support during a season where face-to-face was not an option. Pearl allowed me to expand my business and find more qualified staff because my selection pool is now available across the country! ### 4. If you are an institution, then the platform and team provide you with the features and support that you need to be successful. **What problems is Pearl solving and how is that benefiting you?** Optimizing operations for our large-scale support program, and collecting the critical data points to help build sustainability in our program. The technical support and relationship management from Pearl was much better than we expected. ### 6. I also appreciated the ability to share files and have them kept to be reviewed later as well. **What do you dislike about Pearl?** I think that tutors should be able to edit what type of meeting clients are given as options because a tutoring company may not offer in person sessions and that can cause advertisement issues for the company. **What problems is Pearl solving and how is that benefiting you?** As mentioned previously, it is beneficial for students to have the ability to go back and watch the videos. ### 7.
