## Oxygen XML Editor Reviews
  ### 1. Effortless Migration with Stellar Editing Features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Chaya H. | Staff Technical Writer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Oxygen XML Editor?**

I really appreciate the UI interface of Oxygen XML Editor; it makes editing content much easier and allows me to view how the PDF output will look. This feature is particularly valuable for applying conditional tags on the go and reviewing all the required tags swiftly. The interface facilitates an understanding of how the final output flows, which significantly enhances my workflow. Additionally, the setup of Oxygen XML Editor is very easy and seamless, with no issues encountered when connecting to our CMS. This seamless integration allows us to browse our files on the CMS effortlessly. The powerful and efficient search functionality within a book map makes it easier to update entire books in one go, and the built-in terminology checker supports uniform usage of keywords by all writers, adding to its utility and value for my team.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

I find that sometimes the PDF publishing in Oxygen XML Editor takes a lot more time than expected. The error display is not very clear, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact location of the error. This lack of clarity makes it hard to decode and solve publishing issues effectively.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Oxygen XML Editor to effortlessly migrate legacy content to data authoring tools with minimal effort and enhance document editing, updating, and consistency across teams with its intuitive VisiWig interface and built-in terminology checker.

  ### 2. A good but complex editor for XML

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Prashil S. | Full-stack Developer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 28, 2024

**What do you like best about Oxygen XML Editor?**

The editor is stable and efficient. It handles large XML files with ease. The customizable user interface makes it user-friendly. It has a clear concise view of all the icons and features which are easy to understand and for basic use. It has documentation which is helpful in understanding the application better. As the frequency of use is limited to me using it for editing XML files, it still works better than other editors for it.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

There are way too many features for just editing XML files. It does work as an editor as well but to use and have complex features to edit may be overwhelming for new users as it was for me. I would expect some training to use this editor. Also, the premium price is also to be put into consideration.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is mostly solving the understanding and editing of XML documents. Precisely as it is a great editor once you get a hang of it. It has multiple attribute fields and also multiple tab views for multiple files. Editing and reviewing XML documents is easier now.

  ### 3. The Best XML / XSLT Editor

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Retail | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 19, 2019

**What do you like best about Oxygen XML Editor?**

Outstanding debugging tools, and great visual support for XSLT, XQuery, XPATH and XSD. There are many WSYWIG features that I find to be a great time saver. It lets me easily create scripts that automate a publishing build. One of my favorite features is the ability to convert an XML document to a XSD schema.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

The only feature I wish it had was "drag and drop" XSLT coding as found in a couple of competing products. It can also be a bit overwhelming to locate features within the extensive toolset. Additional features I would like to see implemented are 1) validate JSON with JSON schema and 2) generate JSON schema from JSON instance. The other potential negative is that Oxygen is quite pricey.

**Recommendations to others considering Oxygen XML Editor:**

This has the richest set of features and the best debugging tools of any XML editor on the market, although it is pricey.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using Oxygen primarily to develop XSLT transformation programs to be used in support of ERP integrations.

We can also easily replace elements on several topics at the same time.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

Only users with experience in writing would be able to leverage the options of the high number of options available in the different menus of the application

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Structuring and correcting errors in the DITA contents.

Oxygen XML Editor makes my everyday work go smoothly, it helps to manage large ammounts of files and enables me to do technical writing in a simple way.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

The only downside I can think of is attributes being saved authomatically. If someone does not notice it, this may cause some misunderstandings.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Oxygen XML Editor allows me to create product documentation for customers. It helps that the tool is so easy to use and intuitive, yet still has the ability to be personalized.

  ### 7. Best Authoring tool for documentation

It would have been great to have an internal grammar checker. Also, it is difficult to convert to PDF.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a combination of Word and Arbortext editors. We can write the documents easily and even insert images. It helps in highlighting the text with different tags.

Sometimes its slower but depends on the CMS that we are using. Bundled with the right CMS this is a powerful tool for text editing.

**What do you like best about Oxygen XML Editor?**

Simple, approachable, easy to learn. Good, legible UI. Makes editing XML as easy as regular text editing.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

Automatic DITA validation can be overzealous and throw lots of non-errors obscuring the real issue.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It greatly speeds up the editing process. Instead of having to code everything by hand, using the editing mode makes it as easy and editing regular text.

  ### 10. Easy to use tool for tech writers

There is nothing I dislike about oxygen XML editor.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest problem of technical writer is formatting. We spend lot of time formatting content, instead of focusing on quality of the content. Oxygen XML solves biggest problem of tech writers and gives time to increase our performance and quality of content

  ### 11. Great and intuitive tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 04, 2023

**What do you like best about Oxygen XML Editor?**

The fact that it translates xml into easy to use tags in Author's view.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

That you can't zoom out Dita Maps Manager and there is no button/possibility to repeat the last action. I use many repetative actions sometimes so it would be nice to use a button that just repeats the last action on a given fragment of text (e.g adjusts attribute "new").

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It translates xml into tags, so I don't have to check my code all the time.

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Oxygen XML Editor?**

It has so many usefull functions, can be customized to your liking (both visually and functionally). I love that the tool enables me to do so much more than other tools.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

Apart from the search/replace function not working properly sometimes, there is nothing that comes to my mind really. Personally, I think the tool is really good.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Enables us to effectively create new content for our manuals. The tool is intuitive, simple and use and abundant in features that make our wok easier. Our work would be a lot harder without oxygen.

  ### 14. Oxygen XML Editor is Powerful Tool for Technical Writers

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Parul M. | Senior Technical Writer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 25, 2022

**What do you like best about Oxygen XML Editor?**

It's ability to convert a document into multiple outputs with just a click.
The tool is DITA based to gives the ease of working along with xml.
Gives easy collaboration features.

The editor has three views: text, grid, and author. The text view seems to be the most helpful for showing where you are within the file as it highlights your position in blue and shows the overall structure of the XML file. The author view displays the individual tags well.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

Of the three working views for the editor (text, grid, and author), I did not see much use for the grid view.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is solving the issue of writing documents again and again. Documents made in oxygen are woven up using small topics. These topics cam be independently used n number of times in n number of documents.

  ### 15. Oxygen XML Editor: a wonderful tool for structured Help

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Priyanka U. | Senior Lead Technical Writer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 31, 2022

**What do you like best about Oxygen XML Editor?**

Oxygen has plenty of beautiful features. To name a few:
It is XML-based, so easy and precise code troubleshooting.
It has substantial editable output format options.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

Oxygen has some disliked features:
There isn't any help available on the internet.
The dropdown list of individual featured tabs is long and complex.
The interface categorizing projects and files is not modern.

**Recommendations to others considering Oxygen XML Editor:**

Oxygen XML Editor brings with itself excellent features but it also lags due to some of the challenges.
If you are someone who is looking at cost-effectiveness and ease of use, the Oxygen XML editor is the one. With its extensive features and ability to hold multiple projects under one product, it also offers a huge list of the possible output format. It also works towards satisfying your bent towards XML editing: this one makes troubleshooting way easy.
On the other hand, if you are looking at cloud enablement, feel free to explore other tools in the documentation market. Also, for DX writers, Oxygen XML editor may not be the one as you will have to dig and design the unstructured content all by yourself.
Automation is one big functionality where the tool scores none.
So before going in for the purchase step, I recommend one can evaluate the tool as the trial version and explore it.
TIP: You can go for multiple evaluation copies using unique email addresses to buy the time you might need to explore it completely.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being a technical writer, I have worked with Framemaker, Oxygen XML editor has solved problems like:
Cost-effectiveness
Handling extensive projects parallelly.
Multiple output formats and collaboration with shell commander.

**What do you dislike about Oxygen XML Editor?**

As far as I don't think so I ever felt any drawbacks. Even though I'm nontechnical background but still found it easy to use with my requirements and change settings. One thing I can mention is that, after opening the XML file, I need to do indents but it should be default as it's XML file and if one XML tag has a long string then it automatically inserts enter and splits long string into a multiline string which impacts on XSLT transformation.

**Recommendations to others considering Oxygen XML Editor:**

Nothing, just it's fantastic and makes life easier.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's very user-friendly and easy. I am using it for the last 5 years. Software is provided by my client but I always choose Oxygen only. Even though I used XML Spy editor, Ultra editor etc but I felt Oxygen is best. It gives suggestions, Auto XPath generator. Additionally, we get other software like compare files etc. I am using it to write XSLT, Identify XPaths and also sometimes XML. It can also easily open XML File.

Even after decade the ai to identify contents from cms is not included. Still lots of automation can be done. And printing out an output is a headache. Can also add previews using DTD.

**What problems is Oxygen XML Editor solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Reusing of the existing topics significantly helps to reduce lot of time and space. Book maling made easier and updating to multiple contents are so much easy.
