  ### 2. The internal communication tool that best suits your business needs...

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** José Roberto V. | Database & Application Support Manager , Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 05, 2021

**What do you like best about Openfire?**

The configuration, administration and management of talk groups are easy to use. The server where the product must be mounted is within the reach of any micro-company that requires this product.

**What do you dislike about Openfire?**

Currently at the company level we have a requirement on the use of openfire for effective communication, similar to a Microsoft product, that is, we need the processes of video calls, phone calls and other options that openfire on-premise does not support, we have seen the option of openfire web but this 2021 with the problem that FlashPlayer stopped working, we are concerned about implementing it and not having adequate support.

**Recommendations to others considering Openfire:**

Currently Openfire meets the expectations of internal communication, we know that the market has other types of products for the same purpose; but today for today on a personal level, Openfire pleases and does what I need.

**What problems is Openfire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There was a need to have an internal communication tool that was audited by ourselves, Openfire helped us with this process because we can define the communication groups, we define them between departments without other departments mixing. This option helped us to separate confidential information between the sectors of the company.

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2018

We use Openfire for our internal instant messaging. As a virtual company, communication is key, and this helps us stay informed.

**What do you dislike about Openfire?**

Sometimes it needs to be rebooted to prevent crashing. Can get annoying.

**What problems is Openfire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are able to communicate quickly and efficiently using Openfire instant messaging.

  ### 7. OpenFire Chat Server

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David A. | Director Of Technical Operations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 17, 2017

**What do you like best about Openfire?**

We used the OpenFire Server for our internal IM platform. It integrated nicely with our Active Directory and running on the Linux platform "just worked". We had very little maintenance except for routine updates we need to do on it.

**What do you dislike about Openfire?**

The plugin system was sometimes buggy, but got better with time. Our engineers also preferred other clients to the Openfire chat client, but thats the power of Opensource and choice.

**What problems is Openfire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Instant Communication platform - worked with our AD and we controller access.

  ### 8. Most efficient XMPP server

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you dislike about Openfire?**

Not enough support from users to use
XMPP messages sometimes have delay span

**Recommendations to others considering Openfire:**

An efficient XMPP server, arguably the best one since it is quite stable and open-source

**What problems is Openfire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Problems: a quite stable XMPP server for chat application
Benefits: A quite stable server, open-source, can handle a fair number of requests

  ### 9. Openfire works very well for help desk communication

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2016

**What do you like best about Openfire?**

I like that openfire works very well for help desk communications. It has many different plugins and features that can be managed on the back end to give front end users more control over how they can help other people on their team.

**What do you dislike about Openfire?**

I dislike the rate of which plugins are updated. Some plugins go almost a year or more without any updates so they fall behind and require older versions of their clients to use the plugins effectively.

**Recommendations to others considering Openfire:**

Openfire is great if you're looking to have more of a selection of plugins for your xmpp server. They have a large selection and for the most part, the clients they have are very stable.

**What problems is Openfire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We use openfire's fastpath plugin to help our level 2 agents better assist our level 1 agents on their calls.

open standards, open source, it's free :-D
Many authentification methods, a webbased client, external access also possible.

**What do you dislike about Openfire?**

Sometimes after updates you have to search for a solution to get it running again.

**Recommendations to others considering Openfire:**

Definitively worth a try

**What problems is Openfire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Internal company communication.

  ### 11. Best

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caio B. | iOS Engineer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2016

**What do you like best about Openfire?**

Many of the positive points in my tool utilization were the easy and simple integration with various tools, and chief among them is the speed at which messages are reflected in the communication. By also dealing with a tool and open source allows us developers create more loyalty and trust with the Openfire.

**What do you dislike about Openfire?**

Problems often happen that make me determined for the connection time, especially with Automatic reconnection.

**Recommendations to others considering Openfire:**

I recommend to all developers / people from the area who have problems with machine-machine communication since slowly ease of use change and create a culture next to Open fire and the whole community that keeps you.

**What problems is Openfire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

In my company got a high advantage with Openfire, had a slightly lower latency from the machine-machine communication, which created a great feedback and efficiency at work.

The company used Linux system on every machine because it is a problem concerning the machine-machine communication at the time we thought we had a huge problem on their hands, researching and studying found that the best way would be the Openfire that in addition to an open tool -source be easily installed and integrated after the implementation got good feedback about it.

  ### 12. One of the easiest-to-setup XMPP servers

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alexander P. | CEO, co-founder, chief developer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 23, 2016

**What do you like best about Openfire?**

Openfire, despite being powerful, is really easy to get started with. You can use it standalone, or configure LDAP — all a matter of a few clicks in the GUI setup. It also works with Docker, although there were some problems with this setup.

**What do you dislike about Openfire?**

It seemed like Openfire would work in Docker (there are even some ready images in Docker Hub for that purpose), but it didn't go really well. We've ended up setting it up on bare server alongside our dockerized setup. Also, it is a bit hard to integrate with some systems it wasn't meant to be integrated with (i. e. no lack-like flexibility), but if you are a developer, there's nothing impossible for you!

**What problems is Openfire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used Openfire as a student team chat server, so it's

  ### 13. The fastest way to get realtime messaging through XMPP protocol

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Claudio F. | Sr. Software Developer, Management Consulting, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2016

**What do you like best about Openfire?**

It's both easy to configure and to use. A first timer would be able to easily configure it as its interface is just so intuitive. Dealing with the entrails of XMPP which are XML flavoured messages isn't the easiest task, but from the server point of view, when using Openfire everything becomes a bliss!

**What do you dislike about Openfire?**

Sometimes when the API on the development side gets outdated, or Openfire is telling us to update its interface and we do perform some update, it's common to get a bunch of incompatibilities afterwards. They should strive to keep at least some backwards compatibility so we don't need to get back to our coding every single time we update the API or the server. Most of the times it's not a big deal though.

**Recommendations to others considering Openfire:**

If you have been going through all the ordeal of dealing with XMPP vast protocol, without much success of understanding really what is going on at the server side of your application. Perhaps it's time to take a look at Openfire solution. It's easy to install, configure and integrate. Administrative tasks such as users creation, roles definition is easy as pie. Publish-subscribe handshakes on the server side isn't the easiest thing in the world, with openfire it's abstracted with a great and intuitive GUI. Go ahead and give it a try!

**What problems is Openfire solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have these applications which envolve a lot of real time features and the need of prompt response in communication between machine to machine. A small latency would be just too much, so simple http was completely out of the question. As I came to know about XMPP protocol a few years ago, it was both a relieve just being able to deal with such a wonderful protocol, but it was a pain having to deal with unintuitive server side technologies. Openfire really came to rescue on this.

  ### 14. Private IM Hosting

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rusty P. | Senior Director of Global Operations and Quality, Medical Devices, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 28, 2012

**What do you like best about Openfire?**

We use OpenFire in combination with Spark IM client to host an internal IM client that can be used by all of our employees. It allows for real-time collaboration and, best of all, it is free.

It also integrates fully with Active Directory (and other LDAP services) so that our users are seamlessly logged in.

**What do you dislike about Openfire?**

It is very functional for a free software, so I don't have any complaints.

**Recommendations to others considering Openfire:**

Update it as much as you can.
