If I may list two things, the OC system is incredibly user friendly. **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** Ability to edit layout of CRFs can feel limited at times. **What problems is OpenClinica solving and how is that benefiting you?** We needed a centralised system to collect quesitonnaire responses from participants, record that data, enter clinical results, and upload copies of paper work related to each participant visit. It is a modern, user-friendly system with all the functionalities needed for the role. The Insight tool is great. Also, the support team is always there to advise. **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** It is not a very simple process if you need to create advanced and complicated edit checks between different events/ forms. Especially in case you need forms to display their content conditionally. **What problems is OpenClinica solving and how is that benefiting you?** We, as a company, can affordably perform the complete management of our clinical trials (including reporting with the Insight tool) while receiving excellent feedback from our clients. ### 4. Also, they are working on it, but their UX/UI for phones is not quite there yet. We have found that it takes longer than we would have wanted for the coordinators to learn the system. Once they do, however, it is okay. ### 5. For example, having item level SDV within the form you are monitoring would be very useful. **What problems is OpenClinica solving and how is that benefiting you?** OpenClinica has been very open to making changes based on our input, including adding item level SDV. There are a few things to iron out, but it is nice to know that they take our suggestions and actually do something about it. ### 7. The software is easy to use for data collection which is hugely important as many staff spread over many centres need to use it effectively. **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** I would prefer data extraction to be more customisable/targeted. Although achievable, piecing together data spread over different forms on OpenClinical can be awkward. **What problems is OpenClinica solving and how is that benefiting you?** OpenClinica allows for clinical trial data to be captured electronically from many different trial locations, including directly from trial participants. It was easy to use, had a great interface and allowed researchers to work on different cross-functional studies without getting overwhelmed with the amount of data available. **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** There was nothing I particular disliked but I am aware it is expensive. The software was quick to implement and easy to setup with admin and user privileges. Building the question forms was easy enough once you had read the documentation thoroughly. Building users and admins for other clinical research stations was easy to do with the ability to make stepped changes to the versions and keep version control. Small file backups with the ability to save result codes for interpretation and analysis. **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** It was hard to see what the output of the data would look like in order to form a view of the research results **Recommendations to others considering OpenClinica:** It is worth joining the forum to discuss any queries you have regarding setup. With a programmer at your hand you can develop in-house or by freely choosable IT service providers Open Source = High Software Quality **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** End user interface is not very user friendly. Use of newer technologies with CSS framework can make this mobile friendly also. **Recommendations to others considering OpenClinica:** Do not think that, Opensource openclinica means, not good. assess properly your needs and then select the EDC tool, because you do not require a gun to kill a rat, a trap will do. The Giants in the field had made investment in the development of the tool from years and they can not go that in vain, be not the scapgoat . Do a proper evaluation of your needs and select the EDC tool and the service provider. **What problems is OpenClinica solving and how is that benefiting you?** Except End user interface and minor technical issues, no other issues with it. Lot of benefits. 1. Reduced Costs or License Fees. 2. Freedome on customization. 3. Each visit is also color-coded to indicate the completion status of the form. **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** Viewing, answering, and resolving queries is not user friendly. It is not apparent which forms contain queries, and answering queries is tedious and not intuitive. The display is also somewhat confusing with multiple pop up windows and options for drop down responses. **What problems is OpenClinica solving and how is that benefiting you?** Open Clinica allows us to be organized with our data entry and view all forms and their completion status easily. It´s a web based solution to build and manage multi-sites clinical studies. It´s a powerful platform, great user support, Data Entry and DM capabilities makes everything simple. Super User Training is very helpful for data managers when building CRFs. OpenClinica offers Cloud Services. No need IT skills for installation and setup. **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** Implementing certain complex validation checks can get a bit technical. Creating custom visual reports can be involved unless you have purchased the OpenClinica Insight product. **What problems is OpenClinica solving and how is that benefiting you?** The study build and CRF designer allows re-use across studies. Updates and amendments are a simple process. Audit trail is excellent and easy to track and data extractions are available in several formats whenever is needed for the statistician. Data management capabilities improves data quality and productive monitoring. Most CRAs were pleased with the system. If regulatory submission is required, the Regulatory Support Package service is highly recommended. ### 22. As a genetics clinic, the field is constantly changing and OpenClinica has the capabilities to keep up with all the changes we need. It is also helpful that it can work with another system we use, Progeny, to match up people for data inquiries. I am impressed that OpenClinica is available for all types of research and not just genetic since it works so well for us, I previously assumed they specialized in this area. **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** I wish the Subject Manager, which we use to look up people's OpenClinica's ID numbers, could be better integrated. It works, but it has a totally different look to OpenClinica. **Recommendations to others considering OpenClinica:** Before purchasing OpenClinica, make sure it has all the features you need for your study. It seems versatile and like your group can have a lot of say as to what fields go into the database and the different options. Be creative when setting it up as it has an astounding number of features and capabilities. **What problems is OpenClinica solving and how is that benefiting you?** OpenClinica helps us track patient data in a relatively simple but comprehensive manner. Although much of the same data is available through our electronic medical record system, it is much harder to pull and is not always in a format that is easy to work with. OpenClinica keeps all of our relevant information in the same place, and importantly, does not have much of the extraneous data that we would likely get if pulling records from the hospital directly. ### 23. As a data manager and monitor I find OpenClinica to contain all of the functionality that I need to administer studies, users, and CRFs (including versioning). **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** The navigation, location of features, and overall user experience seems lacking. OpenClinica does offer good support but initial feel when navigating the interface does not seem intuitive. Also, the built-in checking system (data edits, queries) has the potential to be clunky and interfere work flow in smaller-scale studies. Finally, certain features seem to require OpenClinica support (e.g., randomization), and I'd like to be able to make site-level changes to studies but it seems unable to do so. **Recommendations to others considering OpenClinica:** I would recommend others to try a demo to see how the team likes it. **What problems is OpenClinica solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use OpenClinica to administer clinical research studies at various sites. I like that I am able to enter CRFs in any order, so that I can continue to capture data for participants that is in a later CRF while waiting for data in an earlier CRF to be communicated to me by doctors and other hospital staff. **What do you dislike about OpenClinica?** What I do not like is that as in the coordinator view, I am unable to make changes to a CRF once I mark it 'complete," and need to have an administrator open the CRF back up for me to amend anything. I also do not like the amount of times I need to click in order to enter a CRF. My final complaint is that there are many things on the screen that I do not need to see or have access to that clutter my view. **Recommendations to others considering OpenClinica:** Have patience when learning to navigate the system - it does take some time to locate all of the features that you will want to use. **What problems is OpenClinica solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am collaborating with a number of academic healthcare systems to create a patient-provider research network.
