"Navisworks makes model navigation easy for all"

What do you like best?

Autodesk has put together a comprehensive piece of software with Navisworks that allows user to pull in a variety of different file types and easily view, compare or run clash detection on. The interface is simple enough that new users can navigate and easily understand tools and their abilities, and it is easy to customize that same interface. I use Navisworks extensively in live BIM coordination and have never had any issues slicing up a model, running clash detection, or putting together viewpoints or drawings for field teams to reference.

What do you dislike?

If you have used Revit or AutoCAD before, it's hard to get used to some of the limitations or design tools that are not a part of Navisworks. The interface, feel, and navigational tools are all the same, but some of the abilities to transform or change items have been removed.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Navis is very easy to pick up on if you have experience with any of Autodesk's other design software. For users with little to no experience, the interface and view tools take a little bit of time to pick up, but once understood, can quickly be mastered.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

BIM coordination, field identification, visualizing future work. We've identified many issues before they have come up by reviewing the model on Navisworks.

"Autodesk Navisworks "

What do you like best?

User friendly interface, and ease of bringing different formats of files such as .dwg and .mpp. In addition, most of the drawings are developed using AutoCAD, hence transferring AutoCAD files to Navisworks is lot easier. The ability to see all the clash detection and focus on the ones that are crucial.

What do you dislike?

I can not think of any function that I dislike or missing from the software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

To do constructability review, study the 3D model developed by bringing different trades such as civil, structural, electrical, mechanical etc using Navisworks. As a design builder, this helps in providing the construction input to the designers during the design phase so that the issues can be fixed before going to construction. Which in turn helps in increasing the profitability and reducing the RFI's on field.

"Almost No Competition"

What do you like best?

The versatility of the program to incorporate simple 3D coordination all the way to 6D BIM makes Navisworks as versatile as it could possibly be.

What do you dislike?

The markup tools are VERY buggy in the newest releases from 2016-2018 and the 3D Panorama still does not support lighting other than the default "Sun"

Recommendations to others considering the product

There really isn't any comparable competition.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Being tied into BIM 360 Glue and Field it is my best management tool of all of our BIM's to regulate what is on the other two services.

"Great for collaboration and visualization"

What do you like best?

Easy to use. Links in with Glue360. Great for saving viewpoints and moving objects for conceptual design. Moving objects is easy.

What do you dislike?

Can be a bit clunky at times. Doesn't behave how you want it to sometimes. The zoom and orbit functions can get a bit touchy if you're not selecting anything nearby as a pivot point.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great if you're starting out with 3D conceptual designs. Can be expensive for the extra features.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using it with a client to figure out clashes and potential issues before construction. We are able to move objects and visually see if any other issues are going to come up.

"Powerful Desktop App for Clash Detection and More"

What do you like best?

There are very powerful tools within Navisworks for detecting clashes between a wide variety of 3D file types.

What do you dislike?

This software can be too intensive and does require the transfer of files to a central location for someone to execute the clashes.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Navisworks is by far one of the best clash detection and timeline sequencing programs in the market and will satisfy your project needs in that respect.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Navisworks to evaluate design, and coordinate all of our disciplines in what are typically confined, complicated spaces.

"Navisworks clash coordination software"

What do you like best?

I found that this software was actually quite easy to train yourself on. If you have access to Navisworks Manage, you are able to run advanced clash detection tests on your model within a few seconds, rather than relying on Revits basic clash detective.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the visibility settings can be hard to manipulate.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Utilize the forums available, as they are lifesavers when you run into problems.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Construction coordination issues with other contractors.

"CADD Designer / Design technology Specialist"

What do you like best?

The ability to do walk-through/review for one's design.

What do you dislike?

I would probably say the amount of lag time on larger file reviews would be one of the downsides/dislikes.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Utilized primarily for construction design to review 3D design packages. Mostly used to view 3D models, navigate around them in real-time and review the model using tools provided within program. Benefits include clash detection as well as redline and comments for project submittal reviews.
