Can script complex computations with drag/drop MODELS and expressions,reuse answer files, use looping to generate repetitive lists, ability to test "offline" without disturbing existing templates, ability to insert auxiliary templates within a master template, navigation that allows end user to jump forward or ahead to any place in the interview, rather than having to only go back or forward one screen at a time, use of tables as answer sources, ability to use webhooks to larger data bases. Although this is not considered "No Code" software, those that call themselves "no code" often have to use long workarounds because they can't achieve everything without code. **What do you dislike about Mitratech HotDocs?** This doesn't bother me, but could bother others... you do need a certain kind of analytical/logical mind to learn how to use all the features of HotDocs within the context of your template. It can be used by someone with no document automation experience, but it would take them a while to learn how to fully take advantage of everything HotDocs offers. **What problems is Mitratech HotDocs solving and how is that benefiting you?** More efficient document production in practice groups, easy for paralegals to generate docs, to allow attorneys to do higher $ value work, allows external clients to complete intake information, saving the time it would take for someone in the firm to do that data entry. However the individual we had training from was great but the fact that we had to pay so much to learn how to use it was frustrating. Having how to documents that are easier to follow would be great and that go over each part of what can be done. I had to keep asking about this and only after asking about something I seen online was I given another link that we should have gotten in the beginning. This link was only sent to me and not the other users even after asking it if was. The set up has been frustrating and learning all it can do I feel is made to be more complicated than it needs to be. Having a direct and easy set up process would have been better also being that documents kept getting sent to an email address of someone who isn't even employed here anymore and I had to keep asking for that to be changed. It also allows the digitalization of electronic signature, so that all our documents are backed by the signatures of the corresponding executives and managers. Despite being a cloud-based software, it also allows offline access, so that documents can be used without the need for internet. **What do you dislike about Mitratech HotDocs?** The interview for data collection, for the creation of the templates, can be quite an overwhelming and lengthy process, so patience is required to complete all the data they ask for. The program is presenting problems with the storage of the information of the templates, as it has more than once asked me for information that I have already provided. I have also had problems with the batch documentation, it does not automatically create the amount of documents that we are requiring, having to repeat the work. **Recommendations to others considering Mitratech HotDocs:** We recommend this software to all companies of any size that require a program that streamlines the process of creating batch documents, that does it automatically and avoids errors. Our departments are much more efficient because we work faster and more effectively. Once we have overcome all the initial inconveniences, such as the interviews and configuration of the templates, this software is really very useful so that the documents, forms, contracts and others that we transcribe in the office are done automatically and much faster, avoiding transcription errors and speeding up our work. **What problems is Mitratech HotDocs solving and how is that benefiting you?** I particularly love using this program because it makes it easy to create the documents that I regularly transcribe, such as customized forms for clients and supplier contracts. Our assumption was that you start with a stripped down document and then add options to it. I wish I had booked an hour of his time at the beginning of my project, an hour in the middle, rather than waiting until my project is almost finished to seek out help. He could have saved me so much time! **What do you dislike about Mitratech HotDocs?** I wish Hotdocs did a better job of advertising the fact that Hotdocs Academy and the online guides are really not adequate for learning how to program efficiently. The level at which we can customize templates and their functionality is impressive. Our legal pleadings are much more uniform in appearance and the content of each specific type of pleading is more consistent. We can customize portions of the pleadings that need customization. Additionally "plug-ins" created for us by HotDocs allow us to save documents in various formats (.rtf, .pdf, .docx) which makes e-filing with the courts much easier. Additionally, the HotDocs training I receive from Seth Hanisek is always top-notch. He is so professional and easy to work with. He can wrap his mind around complex problems and work out a solution. His trainings are invaluable to me. **What do you dislike about Mitratech HotDocs?** For some of our needs we required custom files to be built as "plug-ins." Because of the customization of those files, and the fact that those who developed their programming are no longer with HotDocs we don't really have any support for them. They are "what they are." We are able to live with them, but it would be nice to have support for customized add-ons. **What problems is Mitratech HotDocs solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have solved the problem of drafting each legal pleading from scratch. Previously our employees did a lot of copying and pasting text which resulted in inconsistent font and layout formatting, and was prone to other clerical errors. HotDocs allows us to generate thousands more pleadings in a month and with incredible accuracy. This also allows us to e-file our documents with the courts more efficiently. ### 25. HotDocs allows me to automate the drafting process and have it generate a draft for me to fill out and edit with case-specific details. It has saved me and my firm so much time! Once you draft the first document in a case, all the information is stored so that you can continue where you left off the next time, and only answer supplemental information that has not already been stated in previous documents. **What do you dislike about Mitratech HotDocs?** The only downside I think would be getting started with the process. If you are new to HotDocs, you'll need to spend a lot of time figuring out how to construct your document templates in order for the document to be generated the way you want it to. Once that has been input, HotDocs keeps those answers stored, so that I can generate more documents pertaining to the same case easier and quicker. Training was excellent and all of our questions are finally being answered. The technical support members are very helpful. Call wait time is minimal and nearly all technical staff have been super helpful and able to answer all questions answered or provide a different point of reference. All calls are followed up with an email confirming problems have been resolved. **What do you dislike about Mitratech HotDocs?** Lack of response from sales team and the inability of one of your trainers to actually train users - so frustrating. We purchased the software about 2 months ago. The initial training sessions were not useful at all. Emailed and samples over to the trainer without receiving a response. Sent multiple emails to trainer and sales staff asking for an update. Finally switched trainers and received some help. I think that it would be helpful if sales team members understood that each customer - whether they purchase 1 license or 100 - should be treated as though they are the only customer. They need to follow through with the customer to confirm questions are answered, solutions are implemented, and the customer is getting the necessary assistance needed in implementing the software. This isn't like implementing an email program - a lot is involved. If a client is frustrated from the beginning then it makes it very difficult to be happy about the expenditure. One other thing is that the videos are outdated in HotDocs Academy so the platform you use looks different than what is in the vids making it tough to follow along. **Recommendations to others considering Mitratech HotDocs:** 1. Make sure you have a solid relationship with the salesperson - maybe find someone else who has used HotDocs and is happy with the sales person. 2. Architect a plan for implementation and roll-out internally 3. Determine if you have an individual in house with programming knowledge - DO NOT RELY on getting training from HotDocs 4. Determine how much your budget will be for using professional services 5. Ask to have a demo with each of the trainers so you can figure out the best one for your users. **What problems is Mitratech HotDocs solving and how is that benefiting you?** Automating document processes. Still getting through the program to set up our documents, but we would like to streamline the process of document production and lower costs for doing business. HotDocs is a program that takes quite a bit of time to plan out before realizing benefits. ### 32. Author/Advance needs improvement. Prefer Classic for template development. Document Services has this feature. Allow sender to control whether or not the document can be assembled and downloaded for client review. Author: I miss being able to code directly in the templates. This new interface is slow. Instead, I continue using desktop for development and import into Author, then upload to Advance. If you are used to coding directly in the template coding, you will find Author an impediment. Limitations: HUGE scalability issue. You can only upload 20 templates so if you have interview script with more than 20 bundled templates (which for me is ALWAYS), you will be shut out. Many other document automation products claim they have document automation, but it's basic and clunky so you can only do simple things like insert whole sections of text or simple date or text fields, and create one document at a time. With HotDocs you can create very customised variations, down to the precise punctuation or formatting of lists. You can capture multiple levels of repeats within repeats, and can also generate 20+ documents at once, from a single interview questionnaire. I really like how quickly we can develop templates in HotDocs, and create dynamic interviews that make it really easy for users to see only the questions that they should see. We can give them a lot of question by question guidance (in writing or in video) and so create a solution that's not only very fast, but also ensures consistency and compliance, while also delivering real time training to users. **What do you dislike about Mitratech HotDocs?** The licensing model can be a constraint where you have a very large number of possible users, who only need to create documents occasionally. You get best value where you have users that are regularly using the solution, and so you should plan for that when making sure you automate as much as you can for your users. **Recommendations to others considering Mitratech HotDocs:** Do your due diligence when looking at alternatives. There are a lot of products claiming they have document automation, but you really need to test them to see what they can do (particularly if the document automation module is an add on to the core part of the solution). Don't rely on a demonstration showing a few fields of an NDA or an employment agreement. The cost of the licensing is only a part of the overall cost. A cheap tool that can't do what you need it to will be a constraint on your business that could cost you a lot more, particularly if your users refuse to use it or it takes 2 years to get working. If it takes you 4x longer to automate using the cheaper software, or it isn't easy to update templates, your total costs will be higher. Licensing the software is only part of the overall process. Make sure that you have a plan for how you will get your return on investment. Ensure you have your document templates up to date and ready for automating, and a plan for how you will roll the solution out to your users and ensure successful uptake. Rather than trying to "eat the elephant in one bite", start small, learn and adapt, and continuously improve. **What problems is Mitratech HotDocs solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use HotDocs to automate packages of legal documents for our customers, and have used it on a wide variety of documents including wills and powers of attorney, loan and security documents, construction contracts, employment documents, court documents, share sale agreements, shareholder agreements, and property documents, plus associated correspondence. You can rely on it for any type of document. The benefits of automation include substantial time savings, and 100% accuracy and consistency. The specific benefit of HotDocs over other automation software is that you can rely on it to quickly deliver lawyer quality outcomes, so the total return on your investment is higher. ### 34. Also, you have to be careful around the variable fields or risk creating an error.
