They can also do more than just traditional mindmpas now which means the system is not as narrow in focus as it was. But at it's base level it's an excellent way to visualise and capture discussions and brainstorming. It's very easy to use and there is no implementation required so you just get a licence and away you go. It can be used in every meeting or ideation session where these kind of abstract ideas linked together need to be captured . **What do you dislike about MindManager?** It is still somewhat of a luxury item. It is doing something that can be achieved with pen and paper and while it is not very expensive it could still be out of reach finacially for some smaller companies. The ability to have multiple people work on the same document is limited to a subscription model which is more expensive than the stand alone application. **What problems is MindManager solving and how is that benefiting you?** It is improving efficiency and reducing waste. No instead of needing flip charts and markers and having to collate and take photos after to share it via email with large files sizes across dozens of people you can do it digitally and have multiple people change, comment and update without wasting paper or time emailing . ### 4. Still, I use the Web version to convert my mind maps into HTML5 files that I can easily share with people that want to interact with the information. MM allows for flexibility and there are tons of templates to stimulate MM. MM has rich functionality; but I add links to a Podio environment to keep my mind map content under control. **What do you dislike about MindManager?** MM is not cheap. At the same time it is one of a kind. **What problems is MindManager solving and how is that benefiting you?** MM is about flexibility. Mind mapping is one of the Design Thinking tools. There are Design Thinking software tools now. But mind mapping is a unifying tool. Creating lots of Word and PPT files to map out a new venture or product. May be part of your strategy development; but use MM to keep track and learn where you are connecting the dots or just wasting time. It enables me to update current maps' layouts quickly and to have multiple formats for different levels of the map. MindManager allows me to interact with teams on fast-shifting ideas. We can swiftly rearrange the map without causing it to break. Changing any map element's colours, shapes, and font takes only a few clicks and can be easily transferred to other areas of the map using the format painter. **What do you dislike about MindManager?** I'm not too fond of the company's pricing strategy; firstly, I find it to be a little expensive, and the second issue is the one-time yearly payment makes you bound to use it for a year. It also helps a team comprehend what we're talking about and who is in charge of what stage of the process. I have also been learning a lot about how to use this program from different resources available and I love this program more and more every day. **What do you dislike about MindManager?** I don't like doing process maps on here yet, I find that Visio is still easier to use for process mapping. The relationship tool is what turns me off from using MindManager for process maps. There are a couple times I had to force close out because the tool would not let me easily cancel the action. **What problems is MindManager solving and how is that benefiting you?** Right now it is helping with building a product roadmap and helping with recording requirements. I recently attended the webinar that introduced EARS syntax and I love it. I have been able to apply this practice in a couple of areas and it has been well received. ### 17. I have been mapping organisational structures and linking them together in a layered map structure. This allows me to quickly refresh on where I am with a particular department, for example, and identify the areas that we need to develop and improve. It's exceptional for reporting and updating and I am only scratching the surface and not using the extensive ODBC linking of data sets, but I am still able to use the maps to support a business case or last minute status update, without the need to prepare separate status reports and look to combine data from multiple sources. The real benefit is its ability to take the stress out of the "unknown" - committing ideas, concepts, graphics, and attachments into a visual map - enables you to get out of "paralysis by analysis" and into avenues of possibility. ### 18. I have been using Mindmanager since the late 1990's in my role as a creative entrepreneur. It is a marvellous thinking tool that allows me to gather and categorise my thoughts and ideas in a simple and effective way. **What do you dislike about MindManager?** I love Mindmanager, but am concerned that the corporate approach to blowing Mindmanager into a massive and expensive tool will lead to small entrepreneurs like me in a developing country not being able to afford it anymore. Apart from that it is the tool that I have recommended most to friends and colleagues. I love it and dislike nothing about it. **What problems is MindManager solving and how is that benefiting you?** For me it is mostly a creative thinking, creative problem solving and thinking tool. One thing I feel is missing in MindManager that would let me forget about those other applications is the ability to position objects absolutely in a defined space and know that they won't move. I find that helpful in creating "static" material for print or for slide-type presentations. This is a minor annoyance, but does mean that those other tools stay in my arsenal. MindManager has a new slide deck template, but it's not quite mature enough for my liking yet. **Recommendations to others considering MindManager:** Allow yourself to find new ways of using the software. You probably came to look at this for a very specific task, but it's quite flexible and can be great for note-taking, resource management, and so much more. **What problems is MindManager solving and how is that benefiting you?** MindManager lets me convey ideas outside the boring confines of rectangular tables and paragraphs. In a cross-platform company like ours, being able to patch through Windows and mobile devices at the same time is a very useful feature. Flowcharts are way more useful for reporting than conventional tools. **What do you dislike about MindManager?** I wanted an easier process for maps customization, for example. with fonts, colors, etc. private. I know it can be done but I wish it was easier and in the latest version I am having trouble connecting to Outlook email. **What problems is MindManager solving and how is that benefiting you?** It's my essential tool for organizing topics through Mind Maps. Conspicuous ways to hold discussions are simply best. I couldn't do it without a tool like this. Even when I read a book and want to summarize it, I use a Mind Map and paste it into the book. MindManager does not constrain the creative process. It allows me to rapidly change existing maps to different layouts and have different layouts for different levels of the map. Competing products forced the entire map to be of one layout type. I use MindManager to collaborate with teams on rapidly evolving ideas. We can quickly restructure the map without breaking it. Changing the colors, shapes, and font of any map element is just a few clicks and is easily applied to more parts of the map with the format painter. I heavily use the web publishing feature to easily share maps with teams while maintaining control. I will happily keep renewing this tool. **What do you dislike about MindManager?** The interface is not the most modern and glamorous but gets the job done. The templates are just basic regurgitations of a couple of base map types. I'd like to see a more sophisticated swimlane diagramming tool. These are minor issues compared to the competition. **What problems is MindManager solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am always working with teams to figure out the right organizational structure, product structure, business process, or document structure for our business. I must be able to rapidly change a map as it grows and we make discoveries that trigger a new shape. We are not held back by MindManager. ### 23. Helpful in building a knowledge database. Simple user interface - no training required before using the app. I can use MindManager in different scenarios with different tasks to do - it always works for me :-) **What do you dislike about MindManager?** There´s no possibility to automatically set different colors to the branches of your map. If you implement this funktion it should also take care that new inserted branches get different colors. In the latest version it´s not so easy to move branches from one branch to another, especially when they are big or carry pictures / screenshots. I think this worked better in earlier versions. If I put a html-export into MS-Teams as a file this html file must first be downloaded before I can open it. A decade, at the very least. Despite gradual improvements over time, it has never fully leaped cloud computing. Maybe almost a decade. And although it has evolved over the course of that time, it has never really cracked the transition to cloud. A real disconnect between prior cloud file sharing and a new cloud interface that makes little sense, lacks synergy with prior cloud file sharing and accompanied with little literature in support. Speaking with customer support some time ago, they admitted this was still a work in progress though with the amount of money this costs, it has been very disappointing. The newer project management feature is a mess in my opinion. It could be so much better. I won't upgrade anymore as there is no additional benefit (other than a shiny new interface).
