"Precision and Stability for Complex BIM Projects"
4/5
What do you like best about MicroStation?

What I like best about MicroStation is its precision and stability when working on complex BIM and infrastructure projects. It handles large files smoothly, reducing lag and improving workflow efficiency during coordination.

The interface has a learning curve, but becomes efficient with customisation and reusable design standards. Its compatibility with AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit supports seamless collaboration across disciplines.

MicroStation’s strong 2D drafting and 3D modelling capabilities ensure high accuracy, which is essential for technical detailing. Although pricing is relatively high, its performance, reliability, and scalability deliver strong long-term value and return on investment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MicroStation?

One downside of MicroStation is its steep learning curve, especially for users transitioning from tools like Autodesk Revit. The UI feels less intuitive and somewhat outdated, which can slow down onboarding and reduce early productivity.

Integration with non-Bentley Systems tools is not always seamless, occasionally creating inefficiencies in BIM workflows. Performance may also decline with extremely large or highly detailed models.

Additionally, the pricing is relatively high compared to alternatives, which can be challenging for smaller teams. Improving the interface, enhancing interoperability, and offering more user-friendly training resources would greatly improve usability and overall efficiency. "Powerful Yet Easy-to-Use CAD for Large Drawings and Flexible 2D/3D Work"
4/5
What do you like best about MicroStation?

What I like most about MicroStation is that it’s easy to use while still being very powerful. It can handle large engineering drawings without slowing down, and the tools feel precise, which really helps when designing roads, buildings, or other detail-heavy projects. I also appreciate being able to customize the layout and toolbars to match the way I work.

It works smoothly with many file types, including DWG and IFC, so sharing files and coordinating with others is straightforward. Overall, I find MicroStation reliable and flexible, and it’s a great option for both 2D drafting and 3D modeling, making it a strong choice for engineering and design work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MicroStation?

MicroStation is a powerful tool, but it can be hard to learn, especially for new users. Some of the tools don’t feel very modern, and the menu structure can be confusing at first. It also doesn’t seem to have as many tutorials or online guides as other CAD software, which can make troubleshooting and problem-solving slower. Working with certain file formats is sometimes tricky, and older versions of MicroStation don’t always line up with features that are common in programs like AutoCAD. Updates can also feel slow, and overall some users may find it less intuitive than other design tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful for Engineering, But Demands High Specs"
4/5
What do you like best about MicroStation?

I like that most of the commands in MicroStation can be set manually, which helps us use minimal time to finish the work. I appreciate the ability to create custom shortcuts using manual 'key-ins' for initiating complex commands without searching through menus. Another great feature is using rendering tools to take model graphics pictures, which are impressive for clients. The integration of Google's photorealistic 3D tiles allows placing designs within a high-resolution 3D mesh of the actual project site, providing clients with immediate real-world context. The software also allows for quick generation of final images and impressive animation. Installing and setting up the software is easy after downloading a small initial file from the Bentley software portal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MicroStation?

New users often find the interface difficult to navigate compared to more modern CAD software. The default keyboard shortcuts can be cumbersome and difficult to remember. This software is demanding on hardware, needing a high-end graphics card for optimal performance, which sometimes makes it slow. Many clicks are required to complete commands compared to other software, leading to click-heaviness. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Effortless Drafting with Superb Interface"
4.5/5
What do you like best about MicroStation?

I use MicroStation to draft the details of bridge components and do shop drawings of girders, bents, and columns. I find it helpful that it's easier to import from Excel and key in data, which makes the process fast and efficient. I would say the easy interface makes it easy to learn and key in data. Instead of navigating menus, I can just key in the right numbers and alphabet, and it's organized well, so it's easy to find what I need. The initial setup was also very easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about MicroStation?

Referencing could be better, to move things around if there's different shortcut would be helpful Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
