Plus, the interface with Microstation resembles that of ArcGIS online and Microsoft office products, which is really helpful when learning. **What do you dislike about MicroStation?** If you learn Microstation after learning another CAD program (Eg, AutoCAD, Civil3D, etc.), there are some challenges that are present. However, I've heard that if it's the other way around (you learn Microstation THEN another platform), you have an advantage. **What problems is MicroStation solving and how is that benefiting you?** Microstation is still being used by a lot of state agencies, particularly in New York. Getting to know Microstation more is helping our company expand on the types of projects we're able to bid on. For instance, I had to design a gyroid model for our 3D printing project. MicroStation let me create super detailed 3D models even at a very small scale. Plus, even though my teammates were using different CAD software, we had no problems because MicroStation supports tons of file formats like DWG and DXF. Also, I became an instant fan of the visualization tools that helped me make realistic renderings of the atoms, material constituents and test samples, which were awesome for showing at my poster presentation. Also, being able to customize the interface and automate tasks with simple scripts saved me a ton of time and hassle. **What do you dislike about MicroStation?** As a student I have a university alloted laptop for my academic work and the software can be quite resources-intensive, which sometimes slows down my computer, especially with bigger rendering models. DGN instead of DWG. Autocad and civil 3d seem to be there standard in my opinion. So when I get DGN files it's frustrating and time wasting. Autodesk and Microsation should share the same file extension or merge. I found that the leading competition for Microstation was Autodesk AutoCAD. the main difference were the amount of steps required to accomplish a goal on the drawing. i rember the verb/noun---noun/verb thing being an issue where Acad was more versitile. This is confusing and causes a lot of clicking around to find the right tools and functions when you don´t remember where to find them - especially the ones you rarely use. The result was Microstation CE, which started with so many bugs that it was unusable. A lot of these bugs have been fixed, but there are still issues that have never been addressed. Also, Bentley has changed the way they updated Microstation. They are now more concerned about the quantity of the updates rather than the quality. The updates are not properly tested prior to being released. Once the updated is released, the new bugs have to get reported and typically take two years to fix. Meanwhile the users have to come up with band-aids to get Microstation to work during this waiting time. When there is a serious bug, Bentley may be able to take care of the issue in months, instead of years, but that still leaves the users with a broken Microstation for way too long. **What problems is MicroStation solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest problem is Microstation itself.
