## Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB Reviews
 ### 1. Effortless Global Scalability and Predictable Performance with Azure Cosmos DB

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Hemanth K. | Head of Cyber Identity & Engineering I Information Security, Hospital & Health Care, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

What stands out most about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB is how it pairs global scalability with ease of use. It lets you replicate data across multiple regions with automatic failover and minimal setup, which makes it straightforward to build resilient, distributed applications. It also offers strong flexibility by supporting multiple APIs such as SQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra, so teams can keep working with familiar models while relying on a single backend service. With guaranteed low latency, high availability, and throughput backed by SLAs, performance feels predictable for critical workloads. On top of that, its range of consistency levels gives developers the option to balance performance and data accuracy based on specific needs, making it a compelling choice for modern distributed systems.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

One of the main drawbacks of Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB is its cost model, which can become expensive quickly if throughput (RU/s) isn’t carefully planned or optimized—especially for unpredictable workloads. It also has a steep learning curve, particularly around partitioning strategies and indexing, where poor design decisions can significantly impact performance and cost. While it supports multiple APIs, that flexibility can sometimes lead to inconsistencies in features and behavior compared to native databases like MongoDB or Cassandra. Additionally, query limitations and debugging complexity can be frustrating, especially for more advanced operations, and vendor lock-in is a consideration since it’s tightly integrated within the Azure ecosystem.

**What problems is Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB helps me build globally distributed, highly available applications without the complexity of manually managing infrastructure, replication, and failover. It tackles common problems such as latency for geographically dispersed users, scalability for unpredictable workloads, and the need for flexible data models, all within a single managed service. For me, this translates into lower operational overhead, faster development and deployment, and more consistent performance through built-in SLAs, so I can spend more time delivering features instead of worrying about database scaling, reliability, or regional outages.

**What do you like best about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

In the Cloud Era, customers are expecting a real-time response from all the Modern applications. They are looking for responses on a real-time basis without any delay. There are many applications where data is getting changed in milliseconds. We have Azure Cosmos DB service to develop these types of applications.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

In Azure Cosmos DB service designed for NoSQL. It only supports DBMS APIs which are NoSQL. It should also work with RDBMS. It should also have ETL features which would give more power to Azure Cosmos DB.

**What problems is Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Azure Cosmos DB solves the NoSQL management issues. Big data with the best performance is always a challenge. This azure service gives the solution with their APIs. It is also distributed throughout the region. That solves the problem of performance that cause because of geolocation.

 ### 4. Review for Azure Cosmos Db

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 11, 2023

**What do you like best about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

The best thing about Cosmos DB is its low latency and high availability for applications, regardless of geography. Cosmos DB is globally scalable and beneficial for larger enterprises with multiple geographic markets. It accepts unstructured data, making it suitable for highly elastic data.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

I feel cosmos DB can be relatively expensive compared to other database services. It is not suitable for small-scale applications. Also, reliance on the cloud infrastructure may pose challenges to working in a strictly local development environment that limit cloud usage.

**What problems is Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I feel cosmos db can seamlessly distribute data across multiple geographic regions where data is accessed from different markets.
Cosmos DB has low latency, which solves the difficulty of accessing from different regions through a high-traffic network
It provides strong consistency and high availability for applications. I feel it is easily queried using SQL-like syntax across different data models. It can seamlessly scale throughput and storage capacity per the demand without downtime or performance degradation.

 ### 5. A great DB service for Microsoft suite users.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 08, 2023

**What do you like best about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

Low-latency data access provided by Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB is the most helpful feature.
The automated partitioning, indexing and tunable consistency levels help the users to make changes according to their requirements.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

I wish we could use this service with all the database services. We are using AWS in the current organization, and I feel a lack of functionality compared to Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB.

**What problems is Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB has scalability as its powerful feature. Large volumes of data can be handled easily, which helps users replicate data across areas of large availability.

 ### 6. Azure Managed NoSQL Database

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Pawan K. | Software Technologist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 29, 2022

**What do you like best about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

High performance, scalable, multiple APIs support (Cassandra, MongoDB, core SQL API etc.). It is fully managed by Microsoft so removes the management responsibility from the shoulders of the developers/users.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

The selection of a partition key plays a key role and if the key is not selected with care then performance issues may be prominent. A user should be familiar with other Azure services to get the most out of the data stored in Cosmos DB.

**Recommendations to others considering Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB:**

Be careful while selecting the partition key. For AWS users, Amazon DynamoDB is a good alternative.

**What problems is Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cosmos DB helps to store and work with the data which doesn’t have a defined schema.I use business intelligence tool Power BI with Cosmos DB to do the analysis on the data stored in Cosmos DB.

 ### 7. Azure Cosmos DB is high speed serverless DB with high reliability and distributed computing.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rohit A. | Senior Data Scientist, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2022

**What do you like best about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

Azure Cosmos DB is very efficient in reading and writing data and offers seamless service with very low latency. The database can be accessed through multiple sources eg APIs apart from the console.

**What do you dislike about Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB?**

One problem with Azure Cosmos DB is that it is not readily compatible with many open source software which makes it difficult to use in an integrated solution. The price range also seems to be higher compared to its competition.

**What problems is Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Azure Cosmos DB is used as data storage for us as this provides very low latency and high data processing speed. The high availability makes it an ideal product for us in performance-intensive applications.
