It comes with magic tools like hollowing and repairing 3d designed objects for 3d printing, You could also use it as a slicer for 3d printing. Meshmixer could get files from Fusion 360 which is one of the best 3d creation software on the market. Meshmixer can handle high surface triangle amounts easily. Thus you could process 3d scan data without problem with Meshmixer. **What do you dislike about Meshmixer?** It is not a CAD software. So keep in mind that you can do only basic operations which are allowed to. 3d model rendering options are also limited. It should get more updates. It might be screwed from time to time depending on the 3d model. **Recommendations to others considering Meshmixer:** If you are interested in 3d printing, then you should definitely try Meshmixer. **What problems is Meshmixer solving and how is that benefiting you?** I run a small online 3d printing service. Nearly all my customer files go through the Meshmixer. I check the files with it. The faulty files could be corrected automatically by Meshmixer. This saves me a lot of time. Because if I would have returned my customers for every faulty file, then I must have waited for them much longer to process their possible orders. ### 2. Other free software can do this, but Meshmixer is easier to use. It also has a wide base of users, so getting answers/tutorials online is easy. **What do you dislike about Meshmixer?** You can't export as a .STEP file, which isn't that big of an issue. The auto-repair and smoothing features have a learning curve. One or two of the interface/buttons annoy me. **What problems is Meshmixer solving and how is that benefiting you?** I model in parametric software, which doesn't let you edit surfaces organically. With Meshmixer, I can model in Solidworks, for example, then drop my model in Meshmixer and "sculpt" the surfaces into more organic shapes. ### 3. It really requires some time watching videos or reading how to use it properly to use it to its full potential. **Recommendations to others considering Meshmixer:** If you are trying to make minor adjustments to prepare 3D models for printing, MeshMixer is a really helpful tool. If the models you are trying manipulate are highly detailed and you are trying to change those, use a different software to alter the model directly. Also, consider importing .obj files instead of .stl files if your model is really slow. .obj seem to import a bit faster. **What problems is Meshmixer solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am merging multiple models together, cutting out unnecessary geometry, and occasionally correcting a model that is broken that I wouldn't have been able to make on my own. ### 4. Custom supports in meshmixer are amazing and worth learning and are useful for FDM and SLA based printing, it gives you control of how a 3d print will look and where supports will attach, which is better than slic3r or cura. This is particularly useful for SLA printing, but make sure you practice with prints and monitor them. **What do you dislike about Meshmixer?** The interface can take a while to learn and the mouse interface is not intuitive for a beginner, more included tutorials would be particularly useful. **Recommendations to others considering Meshmixer:** Take your time and learn the software slowly, do not assume you can do a task first without practice. There are good community guides and online tutorials. It would be worth playing with the bunny file for some time first and then seeing how the output translates to a 3d print, just because something looks ok on the screen does not mean it will print well. This is particularly important with SLA printing! Custom supports in meshmixer are amazing and worth learning. **What problems is Meshmixer solving and how is that benefiting you?** Cutting and slicing existing STL files for education use, either taking out a small section or reformatting an STL for a large print for a particularly big display. ### 5. It also provides facility for 3D scan. Also it provides good support for file editing like Mesh repair. The best tool that they provide is the support generator tool that is used for 3D printing that generates images easily. Also the application is STL compatible and 3MF compatible. **What do you dislike about Meshmixer?** When we wish to develop pieces from scratch then the software seems difficult to use. There is no such option to add on to the existing options or develop our own kind of objects. Also when we try to use the 3D tool, it moves slowly and lags sometimes as the cursor does not move at the speed we wish to move it. **Recommendations to others considering Meshmixer:** I recommend to people who are more involved in 3D designing and printing as it is a really great tool that meets all those reuqirements with an easy to learn interface. **What problems is Meshmixer solving and how is that benefiting you?** With Meshmixer I have been able to solve my engineering designing problems and visualize them easily. I have also been able to draw 3D objects for my ED assignment. Apart from this I have also used Meshmixer in 3D printing for my portraits. ### 6. It really helps you out in 3D printing applications. Also, the possibility to auto orient the model on the build plate in order to optimize supports (and we're talking of tree branches-like supports) is extremelu usefull! **What do you dislike about Meshmixer?** Sculpting is not one of the best features of this software and personally I think that it should really be improved. Often the software crashes but it save the last usable state of the scene so you can restore it once reopened. **Recommendations to others considering Meshmixer:** Check the Normals of your model! Meshmixer will display inverted normals as a flat colour surface. **What problems is Meshmixer solving and how is that benefiting you?** Essentially, fixing 3D models for printing and auto - orientering them on the buildplate in order to reduce the usage of support structures. The principal benefits are the optimization of the whole workflow from modelling to printing. ### 10. Meshmixer the best 3D design program. **Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** juan r. | 3d design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** September 19, 2019 **What do you like best about Meshmixer?** I consider that a very complete design program and easy to use, with it I can modify 3D designs which I find very useful also if I download a STL file and is damaged with meshmixer I can repair it which makes it my favorite design program is very easy to use so you do not have much knowledge in design with meshmixer anyway you can make your 3D projects, also has many tools to work what helps a lot when making a project, the ability to make supports in the design really helps a lot, and the tool to soften textures is perfect if you find yourself making a video game, is a very complete and useful program. **What do you dislike about Meshmixer?** I really think that meshmixer is perfect there is nothing I dislike about it, although I would say that sometimes if a file is very heavy the program does not let me work, but otherwise I think the program is perfect. **Recommendations to others considering Meshmixer:** If you are looking for a 3D design program that allows you to repair files, soften textures or even improve a 3D design, meshmixer is the perfect program, it is a very easy to use and quite complete program. **What problems is Meshmixer solving and how is that benefiting you?** Currently I find myself using meshmixer to make supports for my 3D designs, with the tool to soften textures I have managed to create better designs, thus achieving the satisfaction of my customers, allowing increasingly larger and more complex projects, in addition I can repair STL files that I download which allows me to work much better and faster. ### 11. The option to soften textures is excellent for many pieces that will be used in video games. In general, I really like the Meshmixer interface, it has many excellent tools for modifying 3D parts that are well explained and intuitive for users. The support generator tool is excellent for 3D printing, to generate media without much effort. **What do you dislike about Meshmixer?** The 3D parts viewer is cumbersome on some occasions since with the mouse and keyboard you cannot move the pieces easily, the program needs to be more precise in this aspect. I do not like not being able to create pieces from scratch, since it is a software only to modify pieces, it lacks options to create pieces from scratch, we cannot generate any type of objects to sculpt them or attach them to previously added pieces. **Recommendations to others considering Meshmixer:** I recommend that all Meshmixer users who have 3D printers use this software to see the strengths and weaknesses of the parts, also to generate media for 3D printing. **What problems is Meshmixer solving and how is that benefiting you?** With Meshmixer I have been able to correct design problems of parts that I get through the web, with this I save a lot of design time, it has also allowed me to generate media for parts of STL format to later print them with 3D printers. It also solved the problem of texturing for parts used in augmented reality video games. ### 14. The project does not auto save sometimes if the computer system crashes mid project . The files might get corrupted if not saved properly . The tool is great to quickly analyze the expected quality of your 3D print and also a fast tool to view your models **What do you dislike about Meshmixer?** The shaders are pretty limited in their variety. Most of 3D printing nowadays involve printing with multiple materials. The tool is limited in being able to view the models.
