## MeshLab Reviews
  ### 1. Best software for creative 3D workflows.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lukas M. | Video Editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 20, 2020

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

Stability and flexibility of software. You can do a lot things there and find new awesome ways to solve problems. This software supports many formats. You can import it as many as you need and work with then in any way you need. Batching is one of most important aspects of software. You can make complex python script with many steps, and it will execute just fine!

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

Doesn't understand .jpeg textures. It's really frustrating, because primary textures I use in my 3D models is based on .jpeg .jpg and etc. Sometimes it hangs because of unknown reasons. For example you need to reproject texture from scan to retoped model and it just crashes. So I'm not really pleased about it. Sometimes certain workflows with pointcloud doesn't work well. So I have to switch from Meshlab to other software.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

Meshlab is a great tool to achieve high quality results fast. It requires some knowledge on filters and workflows, but it's easy to crack it. It's possible to implement this software into other software or cloud server. Getting creative with software it's possible to make simple lowpoly 3D models printable. Working with cloud data and using poisson reconstruction gives you more flexibility on scanned mesh detail and etc. So I highly recommend using this software!

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Refining scan data, doing smoothing, texture projection from one asset to another. Batch scripting for large amount of models. It's just easier than using 3ds max or other softwares. Also working with volumetric video require hundreds of frames to be refined, decimated and etc. So just build script that does it!

  ### 2. Meshlab provides tools that allow me to repair and create polygonal files

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Casey S. | Chassis and suspension designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2020

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

The BEST thing about Meshlab is how fast it works. Many of the tools are more efficient than similar tools in expensive programs. I like how easy it is to install. I enjoy being able to voluntarily donate to Meshlab in amounts that i can afford.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

The lack of a easy to access view orientation is annoying. If polygonal files could be aligned to a coordinate system based on native or imported surfaces it would be helpful.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

Download it. Install it. Learn it from the YouTube tutorials. Then DONATE to them to keep it working and affordable.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Fast importing, defeaturing, making watertight. flipping normals, decimating and flattening into a single layer are all things that are easily accomplished

  ### 3. Review of MeshLab as past user of the software for my research

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mabel Yen Ngoc N. | Co-Founder, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 03, 2020

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

The user interface is quite convenient and intuitive to use and play around. Visual effects are good, I ended up using the images from MeshLab for many of my presentations.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

Few years ago when I used it, I mainly used it like a third party software to further process my mesh and polish it. Some other steps to edit geometry still require to be done in solidworks for example. I am not sure of the most updated functions it can provide at the moment.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used this to refine/smoothen my mesh for better surface quality, and better general geometry before importing into Solidworks. I found this function of MeshLab to edit the whole entity is very convenient (but not sure about its ability to edit selective parts of the geometry), and the visual affects are great for showing in presentation.

  ### 4. Using MashLab as program for begginers

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Paula M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2020

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

Programs interface is very simple. Setting stl. format (whic I used) is as simple as processing and working on it. The program has many features that simplify the work and allow you to create wanted object, model, etc. I like MashLab because in it you can close 3D point cloud, delete them or even transfer them somwhere elese.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

Sometimes when i want to close 3D point cloud it wont close or it closes with too much extra points which than i have to process extra. It has some bugs in system in some functions which dont work or it shots down the entire program without saving any document or specific part thah has been worked on that point.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

I definitely recommend it to student and professors working on some 3D objects (scanned human body, scanned object, etc.).

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I had the task of closing points of scanned human body, deleting excess points and preparing for transfer to the next program.

  ### 5. Great tool for visualising meshes!

**Reviewed by:** amar a. | Research Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 21, 2020

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

The simplicity and plug and play approach of the tool.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

Sometimes it crashes randomly, causing loss of work.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

Should try it out

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've used it to visualise point clouds and also to convert point clouds to meshes. I am using the results in Augmented Reality applciations.

  ### 6. An awfully cool program to process 3D objects

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tomas S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2019

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

It's an easy-to-use instrument to alter and fix STL records so I can print them on our 3D Printing gadget. I like being able to utilize this computer program on any low-income computer, since it may be a exceptionally light program that can run on nearly all working frameworks. The instruments are exceptionally straightforward to utilize and are fantastically valuable with all three-dimensional protest groups.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

Meshlab route is exceptionally harsh and it is troublesome to move the 3D protest on the stage, a point I don't like is that you can not make 3D objects from scratch, it as it were permits you to adjust already made objects from other CAD computer program. The program has numerous tools but numerous of them are not utilized since they don't have exceptionally valuable functions.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It upgrades the way I work with 3D shapes, presenting to me a other way of changing objects

  ### 7. Best software for mesh processing out there.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stephen H. | Mechanical Designer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2019

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

It's an easy-to-use tool to edit and patch STL files so I can print them on our 3D Printing device, I just love MeshLAB. The software facilitates the process, I often download 3D objects I need to modify. You can learn and help very easily the tools that this software offers.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

The navigation on meshing is very rough, and the move of the 3D object onto a platform is difficult. One point that I don't like is that you can't create 3D-objects from scratch. The program has many tools, but many are not used because the features of the program are not very useful.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

On a low-end computer, you can use this program. Before reading, make sure you read all the instructions you need to set it up to save time.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have managed to change most 3D objects with this program since I deal with 3D printing, which allows me a lot to alter parts. Those who are unable to design CAD use it extensively in my company as 3D models for 3D printing can be returned with this technology. Meshlab helped us to solve our 3D images problems. It simplifies the editing. We liked the repair tool very much. We can render an object to make it softer.

  ### 8. I could construct a 3D ground by MeshLab.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 15, 2020

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

Everything was perfect in MeshLab.I had a plan to construct a meshed ground using the data ( point cloud ) which had been scanned by terrestrial Lidar, I easily did the triangulation method and also reconstructing my ground by using MeshLab.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

Nothing. Everything goes well and I appreciate this.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

MeshLab is the best choice for your projects related to the 3D models or ...

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I reconstructed the missed parts of my meshed ground and all the defections just by MeshLab tools.

  ### 9. A very cool program to modify 3D objects

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ehilemar a. | engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 22, 2019

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

I really like MeshLab because it is a simple tool that helps me repair and modify STL files so I can print them with 3D printers. It's great to use this software because I constantly work with 3D printers and I usually download 3D objects and need to modify them. I like being able to use this software on any low-income computer, since it is a very light program that can run on almost all operating systems. The tools are very simple to use and are incredibly useful with all three-dimensional object formats.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

Meshlab navigation is very rough and it is difficult to move the 3D object on the platform, a point I do not like is that you can not create 3D objects from scratch, it only allows you to modify previously made objects from other CAD software. The program has many tools but many of them are not used since they do not have very useful functions.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

I recommend that all MeshLab users use this software only to modify 3D objects, for those who want to create 3D objects from scratch, I recommend that they abstain and use other CAD software.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Thanks to this software I have been able to modify many 3D objects, since I work with 3D printing helps me a lot to modify parts. People who do not know how to design with CAD also use it a lot in my company since with this software 3D objects suitable for 3D printing can return.

  ### 10. A nice program to Modify 3D Objects

I often download 3D objects that I need to modify and this software makes the job a lot easier. The Tools that offered with this software are very easy to learn and very helpful.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

I have found that at times the program has issues when it is trying to rebuild a model. But other then that small hicup not much.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

You can use this program on a low end computer.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Meshlab has helped us fix problems that we have with our 3D images. It makes editing them a lot easier. We have taken a great liking tot he Repair tool. We are able to render an object so that it has softer edges.

  ### 11. Handy, well thought.

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Florica D. | Florica Duflot, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 25, 2019

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

Developed by ISTI and CNR, MeshLab is an open source 3D mesh processing software. Its main objective is to provide a complete tool for handling and editing 3D models. For this, it proposes different options of cleaning of the mesh (suppression of the doubles, elimination of the isolated components, coherent unification, automatic filling of the holes, etc.), assembly, smoothing, re-mesh (simplification, subdivision reconstruction of surfaces , etc.), noise suppression and conversion in different formats, which is very convenient. The variety of import / export formats offered by the software is excellent, moreover the function 'printing' is made in high quality (the rendering can go up to 16k x 16k). In addition, MeshLab has other tools such as the measurement tool that can measure linearly the distance between the points of a mesh or as the slicing tool that allows to export flat sections of a mesh format SVG: simple but you had to think about it!

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

Sometimes, it has troubles to rebuild models. Apart from that, I can also quote a bit of lags when the model has plenty of surfaces, but I guess it mostly deals with computer performance.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

Make sure you have the right computer to edit big structures.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It enhances the way I work with 3D shapes, introducing to me a new way of transforming objects.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Arts and Crafts | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2019

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

I have been learning to use and using MeshLab for about a month now; my application is visualizing atomic force microscopy data. I would like to thank the developers for freely sharing this fantastic tool. The interface works well, the trackball idea is excellent and I like the search tool for finding filters. Overall, the software is well worth downloading and learning to use. I look forward to further improvements.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

Too many filters and unsure of how to use them all.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

Such an amazing software, we absolutely love it.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

There is a large number of filters, most of which I don't fully understand. There are flaws, however, such as a lack of documentation and frequent crashes. Both of which could be easily remedied given sufficient time. But that is the problem isn't it? The videos were a great start to providing tutorials, but that effort seems to have run out of steam.

  ### 15. I used this program for my internship

  ### 16. Raw Data All in One

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Civil Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 22, 2019

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

Its a free program that allows users to edit, clean, repair, inspect, render, and convert meshes, and even merge models into a solid and patch up holes in your 3D model. So it’s very convenient cuz it’s all in one and can process raw data.

This software is ideal for processing raw data produced by CAD software and preparing 3D mode

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

There hasn’t been a new program released since two two thousand and sixteen. So, even though meshlab is still one of the best free programs out there, and upgrade is due.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

Make sure you read go through all the instructions for set up before doing it to save you time.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Meshlab software is perfect for processing raw data made by CAD software & setting up 3D models for printing. Features include 3D model reconstruction, color mapping and texturing, model visualization, and others.

  ### 17. The ideal tool to repair 3D objects

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** viviana c. | Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 08, 2019

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

I really like Meshlab because it is a very practical software that allows me to repair and sculpt objects in STL format, it is great because I work a lot with all kinds of 3D formats that I always have to redesign. With this program I can soften, clean, render and convert 3D files. The interface is very simple to use, it has a large number of 3D formats compatible with the platform, so I take away the problem of converting objects. Another positive point is that it does not consume many resources on the computer, runs easily on the computer and rarely secures a 3D piece.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

I don't like the navigation that Meshlab has with 3D parts, it is very rough and difficult to handle in many cases. The program does not allow you to create 3D objects from scratch, you can only modify previously designed parts in other programs. The image quality is low, these make it impossible to observe the workpiece in detail. The program does not explain very well all the commands it has, because of this you should look for more information on the internet to better understand all the software.

**Recommendations to others considering MeshLab:**

To all users who want to use Meshlab I recommend using this software only to modify 3D parts, refrain from wanting to design a 3D part from scratch because the software is not trained for this. I recommend to all those who have 3D printers that use this software to soften and repair 3D objects it is ideal to use this tool for those cases.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This program has helped me a lot because I work with 3D printing and many of the pieces that I download from the Internet bring damages that I can improve with Meshlab, for example render the object so that it has softer edges or simply use the “Repair” tool.

  ### 18. A free Software for 3D printing and scanning.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Banking | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 23, 2019

**What do you like best about MeshLab?**

Is a software that deals with the triangular meshes of a design and it's useful to use it for the limitation of size and the reduction of the polygons of the files and 3D elements.

**What do you dislike about MeshLab?**

Some errors may occur when loading a 3D file for 3D printing. When this fails, it's too heavy, so it's necessary to keep its size below 50 MB and less than 1 million polygons.

**What problems is MeshLab solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It provides a set of tools to edit, clean, repair, inspect, render, texture and convert meshes. With Meshlab, it's possible to process raw data produced by 3D scanning tools and prepare 3D models for 3D printing. It's very accessible since it's a free software and is available for Windows, OSX and Linux.
