The portal and service catalog can sometimes be challenging for new users who are not familiar with cloud networking concepts. While most of the Megaport experience is self-service, some steps still depend on manual handoffs between parties, which adds time. The biggest pain point for us was the Letter of Authorization (LOA) process for cross-connects. There didn’t seem to be a standard format or clear checklist for what the data center needed on the request, so if any detail wasn’t exactly right, the request was rejected and sent back. Each rejection added days, and since the requirements weren’t clear up front, it was hard to get it right the first time.

At one point this put our project timeline at risk, and we had to escalate to get the cross-connect finished on time. It was frustrating because the virtual side of Megaport was ready in minutes, but the physical side took much longer.

Suggested improvements:

Validate LOA details in the portal before submission, with the required fields for each data center.

Provide a checklist or template for each facility so customers know exactly what’s needed.

Show real-time status tracking for cross-connect orders, including why a request was rejected and what to fix.

Give a clear path for expediting time-sensitive orders without a formal escalation.

We appreciate the flexibility of Megaport and its ease of use. We can quickly create private connections between our data centers from a single console and adjust bandwidth on demand according to our needs and workloads. This allows us to quickly adapt network capacity, avoid over-provisioning connections from the start, and optimize costs. Megaport also simplifies interconnection between our data centers and cloud environments, reduces deployment times, and allows us to efficiently manage our network flows with private and secure connections to hyperscalers. Megaport drastically reduced our deployment timelines. What used to take months now happens in days—cross-connects were live in about 3 days, and virtual connections were nearly instant. I find Megaport easy to use and cost-effective. Depending on the workload, it can be much cheaper and faster than private backhaul to connect DCs. I really like that it can provide cost-effective low-bandwidth connectivity between sites and scale quickly to high bandwidth when needed. Its flexible cloud connectivity is priced on par with direct connectivity, and its deep integration with cloud providers makes turn-up easy. I find the portal well designed, and the provisioning system reliable, with few glitches. I can enable new sites quickly, and deployment takes minutes. Getting from signing up for the portal to having live services can take just a few hours. Megaport is also self-serve, so things work pretty well out of the box. When I do have problems, which thankfully isn’t often, Megaport’s support leaves a little to be desired. Support is chat only, with no NOC number I can call, and the handoff from chat to actual tickets for long running issues can be clunky. Site diversity can also be hit or miss. The recent India rollout was rocky, though they worked through most of the issues. Megaport could improve its support and account management. I think they are working on this. Megaport are a workhorse; our needs were quite simple - connectivity between two cloud hosting companies. The Megaport UI was straightforward and easy to understand, the price was right and connecting their service up to each of the hosting providers was straightforward. We get clear notification in advance of any maintainance work and the support from the account team has been great. The web UI means it's sometimes a bit trickier than it needed to be to see traffic, but that's on our scale where there's only a couple of connections - I'm sure once there's more interconnects, or where you're in the console a lot more would make it more intuitive then. Their portal is fairly easy to navigate but the best part about Megaport is their Support. They are very responsive and incredibly helpful.
