## MariaDB Reviews
  ### 1. MariaDB - Switching to mariaDb is easy with an open source feature

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

The best thing we talk about MariaDb is it has many several optimization techniques that tend to improve the performance, as it has better query performance.
It allows the parallel execution of commands resulting in multi processing and fast execution of the program.
It has an additional feature of thread pooling, a useful concept for the API.
MariaDb is compatible with almost every different platforms.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

The errors mesaages displayed in MariaDb are usually not very cleared.
So if bit description can be added than it will be more useful.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

Work bit on adding more detail to the errors dispayed.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MariaDb has several powerful storage engines. Mariadb is very much compatible with the MySQL version which completely opens up the possibility for us to switch to Mariadb seemlessly without any change required in the source code ,like when there are performance issues with another relational database we can switch to MariaDb. An intersing features that mariadb supports is virtual columns, and with this virtusl columns we are capable of performing the calculations at the database level.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Matt A. | Senior Web Developer, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 29, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

I like that MariaDB is maintained by a community-based foundation as opposed to being owned by a larger corporation, especially one that maintains another major relational database system, Oracle.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

Lacks some of the more "fancy" features of other, more established relational databases like MSSQL and Oracle.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

Watch to ensure that MariaDB doesn't fall too far behind MySQL, or at least "holds its own" in terms of its divergence from the original fork from MySQL

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MariaDB scales well and plugs into our PHP web application seamlessly, meets our needs and is easy to understand and administer.

  ### 7. MariaDB: Best Open Source DB better than MySQL

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 26, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

The Development of MariaDB is more open and Vibrant as compared to MySQL and the simple reason is that MariaDB is open source while MySQL is owned by Oracle. Even the GitHub stats show that the number of contributors for MariaDB is way more than MySQL. The storage engines options are better in MariaDB since it excels in the number of storage engines and other plug-ins, most of the popular engines such as Connect, spider are part of the official releases where as in MySQL they are supported via Third party. MariaDB is compatible and easy to migrate i.e. it can easily get compatible to MySQL files.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

MariaDB should come up with better troubleshooting options e.g. GUI like SSMS for the SQL server. MariaDB is compatible with MySQL till 5.5 but it still lacks some of the features which were released with MySQL 5.6. It should work more on Fixing the replication issues.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

MariaDB is a good drop in replacement for MySQL, i use it everywhere instead of MySQL. It is well suited for medium scale business.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MariaDB was our main Database server for our internal project management. Also It was used by our Infrastructure division for some management tools.

  ### 8. Way better than MySQL

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

It supports all of the features we need out of a relational database, and it is faster than MySQL.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

It does not natively support storing and querying JSON, instead we have to build logic into our application to work with JSON.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

If you use MySQL and want better performance, use MariaDB!

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2019

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

Its simple to install and use obviously you need to have the right business case to use this. Do not put your mission critical systems on it. If the transactions are light then this can be a great open source technology. But dont put anything on it that you cant afford to rebuild or loose.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

There is still a lack of commercial support. it has lot of catching up to do with commercial options

FREE. No kidding, a database server this awesome and free pretty much sums it up. Needless to say the stability of MariaDB is phenomenal.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

It's very hard to find what to dislike about MariaDB, i guess just the fact that it's not as scaleable like the NoSQL counterparts? But then again i understand why it cant be so there's that.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

If you're using MySQL, switching to MariaDB is just a breeze. If you're hesitating to switch, dont, coz it is like MySQL only better.

  ### 16. Just like MySQL but guaranteed to be open-source

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Roderick Y. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

The biggest difference between these two databases is that MariaDB is open-source. Virtually everything else is identical, although once Oracle (the owner of MySQL) changes the way metadata is stored in the upcoming MySQL 8, that may change. However, until then, if you are a supporter of open source projects, MariaDB is the way to go.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

The regular complaints about open source projects are lack of support and lack of documentation. I have not experienced that there is a significant problem with this, but there is certainly a lack of personal support provided by the MariaDB Foundation.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

MariaDB is a solid, robust database which uses identical commands and infrastructure as compared to MySQL. If you are a MySQL user, MariaDB has the added advantage of being open source, and being committed to being so into the foreseeable future.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using MariaDB as the main database for a private college, and primarily I can offer to the organization that we will have a robust database into the foreseeable future without any overhead.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 10, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

MariaDB is a great database management system. Its perfect compatibility with MySQL allows you to migrate from one system to another without problems, as it has the same commands, interfaces, APIs, and libraries, making it easier to switch from one type of server to another.

The two storage engines, Aria and XtraDB, replace the previous MyISAM and InnoDB with great advantage. It offers improvements in speed compared to MySQL when making complex queries, as it caches data in temporary tables, which provides great and fast performance compared to using the hard disk.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

I do not see any bad thing in MariaDB, maybe I would put it as the biggest problem not being able to run the two systems together on the same server, MariaDB and MySQL. Otherwise, it is the future of databases.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

After the transition from Oracle to MySQL, MariaDB is our salvation. Thanks to its 100% compatibility with MySQL, it allows a clean migration of our systems without incidents, and without any cost in terms of time or money, which is very important in the times we live in.

Not to mention the great community that is forming behind it and supporting it. In my humble opinion, MariaDB is heading in the right direction.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have optimized a large part of our databases with MariaDB, reducing the search time in complex queries, with great performance and great stability of our systems. No cost, no time or money, for our business because of the compatibility it has with MySQL.

**Reviewed by:** Claudia C. | Desarrollo front-end, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 12, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

The best thing about the database manager is that it has the facilities and advantages of a paid one since it was derived from MySQL, but instead, this is a free option.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

There are hardly any things I don't like, but if I had to choose one, it would be the fact of having to uninstall MySQL and install MariaDB. However, the migration is straightforward.

Scalability issues when the data goes in higher TB's range. Also, sometimes we have faced certain issues with data replication.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Most of our metadata and lookup tables sits in Maria DB. Also, lot of softwares like cloudera uses Maria DB as backend

  ### 30. Great Experience

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 14, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

We used MariaDB to make use of Galera clustering. We found the command prompt and logging to be better than that of MySQL. Also, new features usually come faster to MariaDB. Extremely stable to use in Production systems.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

Not much to dislike. There are a few caveats that need to be covered. It was intended to be a drop in replacement for MySQL but the project has deviated from MySQL since 5.5 release of MySQL. So care needs to be taken while migrating as issues are expected. It is still a smooth transition all and all if you are not using any legacy features.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using MariaDB as our SQL Database for our backend application. We are happy with the performance and the stability it provides to complete our business goals.

  ### 35. MariaDB

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

MariaDB is essentially the same as MySQL, except it is community managed. Having said that, MariaDB is great to work with and it’s security is sufficient for our purposes.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

As it is community managed, MariaDB (unfortunately) receives less updates compared to MySQL. Also, it is not the easiest software to get set up and secured for a production environment (whitelist-only connections to the database, etc.).

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MariaDB, being so popular, makes it easy to integrate with applications. Also, most software available that requires a database connection supports MariaDB (ie. application support is superb compared to something like Microsoft SQL).

  ### 36. Good database tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Quim J. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 31, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

The best part of MariaDB is the support for multiple database engines without requiring separate licenses. Impressed by the functionality provided by InnoDB and TokuDB.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

The lack of a GUI tool to perform basic administration tasks, such as job scheduling, backups, replication configuration, etc.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

None

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are using MariaDB for highly transactional data that changes frequently. We also use MariaDB to aggressively archive and delete data from tables to keep them smaller, which in turn makes data manipulation and retrieval faster.

  ### 37. Good experience using MariaDB. Fast & stable.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

It's only limited to relational SQL, it could be fine to expand this options.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

Its a great way to start with databases. Use is very simple, sometimes hard todo queries but it's an interesting start in SQL world.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 11, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

It's a great piece of software for a database. Easy to deploy and use using SQL. Open source too which is always a perk. It has more advanced features than say it's parent, MySQL, so it's much superior to it.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

Can't scale like other solutions, but should be easy to transition if your needs grow too big. It''s good for a centralized database and small to medium sized setups. Depending what your needs are of course.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

You should help to support the open source community by using them and supporting financially.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using it to store customer information. I have come to realize it's ease of use and how well it worked.

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

If you want a MySQL open source, this is the one you are looking for. It is fast, simple, and also lightweight, widely recommended.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

I can't complain about this database manager based on MySQL, it simply does what it should do. I've never used it in very large environments.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

use for small projects or as a development database, light and very practical

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

That MySQL still exists and people still use it despite knowing that it's owned by a horrible organization that will betray them.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've used MySQL based solutions for almost my entire career. This is a reliable product.

  ### 45. Excellent opensource Relational DB

It has all the potential of MySQL and greater support from developers than MySQL. It is very easy to migrate from MySQL to MariaDB.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

It still lacks its own tool with a graphical interface to manage the database.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

Right now, along with Oracle, they are the best relational databases to set up in large-scale projects.

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mental Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

New storage engines, speed improvements especially in complex queries. New system tables (INFORMATION_SCHEMA) are added to store statistics that can help us optimize databases. The system for handling connections has been improved, as it implements the pool-of-threads system from MySQL 6.0, allowing us to have more than 200,000 connections to MariaDB. In general, many modifications have been made to improve performance, speed, and even implement new features.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

The only disadvantage is having to uninstall MySQL and install MariaDB, but the migration is very simple.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

MariaDB is under the GPL license, which is less restrictive and completely free.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 12, 2018

**What do you like best about MariaDB?**

Easy installation and easy configuration. Small installation size on a CentOS server, and queries run fast on the server.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

The updates and new features added to mySQL do not make it to mariaDB all the time. So now MariaDB and mySQL have forked away from each other quite a bit.

**Recommendations to others considering MariaDB:**

Weigh the options that both Maria and mySQL provide. Since they forked away from each other, they both offer different sets of tasks.

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We utilize a MariaDB on our server to host a Data Warehouse. This houses all our data we pull in from all of our APIs. We then use Metabase and SQL queries to create analytics and insights.

Transparent and simple, allows us to seemlessly move on from MySQL and not look back.

**What do you dislike about MariaDB?**

Additional learning curve involved in the install and having to be aware of the minor niggles and bugs which are all documented

**What problems is MariaDB solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We reached end of life with MySQL and upgraded our server to the latest version of CentOS. MariaDB stepped in and took over allowing us to use our old systems transparently.
