"Effortless Configuration Management, Rapid Recovery"

What do you like best about Kilter?

I really appreciate how BackBox simplifies managing infrastructure configurations for various clients. It automatically backs up configurations on schedule and provides clear comparison between them, which makes diagnosing and fixing issues straightforward. Restoring configurations is a breeze and prevents prolonged downtime after errors, which saves me from long troubleshooting sessions. The installation was surprisingly easy, allowing me to add client devices quickly without being bogged by complex setup instructions. Moreover, the broad support for different devices is essential since our clients use various equipment. Overall, BackBox greatly enhances my workflow efficiency. What do you dislike about Kilter?

My only real criticism is not about the software. Configuration backup is still seen as optional by many clients, so when I raise it during an infrastructure review, it often ends up at the bottom of the budget list. I usually have to describe what a recovery looks like without it before anyone takes it seriously. It would help a great deal if BackBox provided a short client-facing report or dashboard summarising backup status, recent configuration changes, and recovery times, since something visual that I can show during an infrastructure review makes the value obvious far more quickly than my explanation. "Reliable Automation with Some Initial Setup Hurdles"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Kilter?

I like how BackBox replaces the old manual, irregular backups with automated schedules. It really helps keep every firewall, switch, and router configuration safe, reducing the risk of downtime, especially during the school day. Having consistent recovery points gives me peace of mind. What I value most is the consistency in maintaining our network. I rely on it daily to manage configurations across routers and security appliances, which saves a lot of manual work. The integration with our service desk is fantastic because it logs each task's results automatically. This integration ensures my records are audit-ready without manual tracking, which is crucial since I manage the network largely on my own. The automation features work seamlessly with our service desk, alleviating the need for routine oversight on every job. I find this reliability incredibly beneficial for managing a school network. What do you dislike about Kilter?

The sticking point was the groundwork at the outset. Pinning down each device type and setting the right credentials took longer than expected, and since I lean on it heavily, even a small misstep would throw off a scheduled task. The feature set is robust, though that depth can make the environment feel rather technical, which added to the load in the early days. I'd welcome a more guided onboarding flow, something like a setup wizard that auto-detects device types and validates credentials before the first scheduled task runs, which would spare newcomers the trial and error I hit early on when a small misconfiguration could quietly derail a job. "Quick network device backups"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Kilter?

I find the automated vulnerability mapping engine of BackBox extremely useful for running seamlessly throughout our inventory. It can compare and match with external threat data in devices within one second, and it automatically builds playbooks for remediation without needing to manually validate them. Our junior technicians can easily manage complex software tasks. I also like the native single click bare metal restore feature, which can restore damaged remote switches in seconds. Additionally, the initial setup was easy to manage. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Kilter?

During periods of high latency networks, I encounter issues where the distributed execution agents continue to send out false positive timeout alerts. The automatic policies deployed to split zones fail to work offline regularly. Also, when the reporting module includes a lot of inventory records, it produces completely unreadable PDFs. "Effortless Configuration Management with BackBox"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Kilter?

I really appreciate BackBox's agentless design, which lets me pull configuration and security data from every device on our network without installing software on each one, saving me a lot of setup and upkeep. The automatic capture of device configurations is a game-changer for managing our infrastructure and providing a reliable assessment of our network's security posture. This feature helps guard against configuration drift, keeping our systems resilient and securing the confidential client data we hold. Furthermore, the clear reporting is a significant advantage, as it turns dense technical results into something understandable that I can present to our leadership, aiding in making a persuasive case for necessary improvements. Additionally, the initial setup was fairly straightforward, which was convenient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Kilter?

The absence of a dedicated mobile application makes reviewing results less convenient when I am away from my desk. Broader coverage of the more obscure devices we run would be welcome, and reports tailored to different internal stakeholders could be more efficient. A built-in mobile app for reviewing results and alerts away from my desk, broader out-of-the-box support for less common and legacy devices, and a more flexible report builder with reusable templates and role-based views would each make the platform stronger for internal use. "Streamlines Network Management with Reliable Backups"
4/5
What do you like best about Kilter?

I find BackBox incredibly valuable for automating routine network chores, like scheduled configuration backups across our switches, firewalls, and VPN gateways. It ensures I never worry about missing the latest device state. Having everything in a single console for our mixed estate of vendors is a huge plus, letting me manage different devices all in one place. The automation saves me from manually logging into each device to pull backups, freeing me from repetitive tasks and giving a unified view of our campus network. When issues arise, like a firewall change gone wrong, the ability to quickly roll back to a known-good configuration is a lifesaver. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Kilter?

My reservations are few and modest. Building the first automations calls for patience, and the template library, though broad, occasionally lacks coverage for some of the less common devices we run, obliging me to write a task by hand. Neither point has held us back, and support has been responsive whenever I raise a query. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable Network Backup and Restoration Tool"
4/5
What do you like best about Kilter?

I really appreciate BackBox for backing up and managing network equipment configurations effectively. The interface remains clear, even with a large number of devices, making it easy to handle. The automation, especially with scheduled backups, compliance checks, and configuration comparisons, saves me a significant amount of effort. It's reliable, as backups run smoothly and restorations are straightforward when needed. The responsiveness of the support team is also a major plus, providing great assistance when the network is crucial. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Kilter?

I find some advanced capabilities challenging to master, especially in unusual scenarios or deeper integrations with other systems. While the interface is generally clear, I wish it allowed more customization for specific cases. Depending on the scale of the operation, certain large batch jobs take longer than ideal, though the wait is usually reasonable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable Automation for Network Management"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Kilter?

I appreciate that BackBox keeps our branches connected, allowing me to restore service quickly when a device fails. The version comparison feature is particularly useful, as it shows exactly what changed and when, which saves me a lot of time. I like that BackBox backs up and manages network equipment configurations without any hassle. Its clear interface makes daily operations simple, even with a large number of devices to manage. The automation features, especially for scheduled backups, compliance checks, and configuration comparisons, are quite effective. BackBox is reliable—backups run smoothly, and restorations are straightforward when needed. I also value their support team, which is responsive and knowledgeable, crucial in avoiding downtime in a network environment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Kilter?

A few of the more advanced features carry a longer learning curve, especially for unusual scenarios or deeper integrations with other tools. The interface, clear as it is, could stand to be more customizable for particular use cases. And depending on the scale of the infrastructure, processing times on larger operations leave some room for improvement, though they remain acceptable in most situations. The trickier ground has been building custom automation scripts for less common device types across our branches and wiring BackBox into our other management tools, where the setup is not always obvious from the documentation and takes some trial and error before it behaves as expected. "Dependable Network Management with a Learning Curve"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Kilter?

I really value how BackBox handles backups, configuration management, and compliance checks all in one place, allowing them to run on a schedule which takes the guesswork out of keeping everything consistent. The automation reduces the margin for human error, providing me real peace of mind. Plus, having centralized control greatly contributes to the reliability and security of our network without adding extra complexity to my day. I also appreciate how restoring device configurations from a centralized location ensures that our online shop and order flow continue running smoothly even during a device failure. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Kilter?

My one reservation is the learning curve. The interface felt dense when I first encountered it, and several of the more capable features only reveal their value after extra configuration. It pays dividends once set up, though newcomers on my team need time to find their footing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The interface looks old but the automation works perfectly"
4/5
What do you like best about Kilter?

Automated backup verification engine verifies that all network configuration files are readable and uncorrupted. Our firewall parameters are checked periodically without affecting the running system. Our multi vendor infra has granular recovery options for disaster recovery scenarios, we appreciate that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Kilter?

When loading inventory reports for a large number of managed network elements, the interface responsiveness is reduced. Custom script builder does not highlight syntax and validate errors in real time for proprietary command lines. To make changes to compliance policies that are advanced, you need to click through several nested configuration menus that lack modern visual layout. The notification agent may send duplicate alert messages every time there is a consecutive network discovery. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Streamlined Configuration Management, Empowers Team with Confidence"
4/5
What do you like best about Kilter?

BackBox has formalized critical procedures, reducing staffing-related risks by allowing any qualified colleague to carry out tasks that previously relied on one person's memory. I appreciate how it solves the tribal-knowledge problem by automating configuration backups and formalizing rule-set changes, which means changes are no longer reliant on one person. It maintains an accurate log of every configuration change, providing a safety net for our team and allowing newer technicians to handle tricky tasks confidently. I love the platform's feature that checks syntax and confirms rule changes are sound before they're implemented, reducing guesswork and allowing experienced team members to delegate tasks without close supervision. The change log is a reliable reference for tracing or rolling back any alteration, and the rule checks ensure invalid changes are caught before reaching live devices. The initial setup was quite simple, taking a few days without major problems. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Kilter?

Over time, building custom integrations for very specific or unusual network hardware can grow somewhat involved, and writing those definitions from the ground up calls for a fair degree of in-house know-how. In certain cases the platform would also benefit from sharper situational awareness when planning an operation, such as recognizing what traffic is live on a link before a change is laid out.
