Karbon is a great platform overall, but there are a few areas that could be improved. I would like to see faster performance in some parts of the application, along with more customization options for workflows and dashboards. Better search capabilities and a few additional quality-of-life improvements for navigating between tasks and clients would also make the experience even better. Karbon's recent improvements that allow further insight on our team's KPIs and showing how work actually moves forward in the queue has been extremely invaluable to gaining information on where our bottlenecks are and how to improve them. Engagements is still not where it needs to be at for us to adopt this system for our practice. The client portal also has some holes that are preventing us from using it - namely, the fact that you can not link it to a family grouping. We assign all of our T1 works to the family group instead of an individual, so without the ability to use family groups in the client portal, we would have to completely change the way we structure our work and client data. Having just onboarding a new member of the team, Karbon again demonstrates it's value to our company as it is so easy to setup & assign work and check in and monitor how they are getting on, it's fantastic the visibility it gives and how quickly a new team member can pick it up. The UI is quite good overall. The triage function is particularly helpful, and the My Week section comes in very handy as well. Being able to tick off tasks also works as a solid checklist and makes it easy to keep track of what I’ve done.

Having a work ticket to track through the workflow process helps keep projects moving smoothly among the team across the office. Adding the Stanford Tax Integration went smoothly as well, and it saved time and money this season by streamlining document management and supporting tax preparation. We need an INTERNAL field that appears on the Account, Individual, and across ALL work items for statuses like “ON HOLD” (usually because payment is needed), so all employees can see it but the client cannot. We use several tags like this, including ON HOLD, NON-TECH, PRE-PAY, etc.

I also dislike that, in the Client Request section, there is still no formatting toolbar. We have been requesting this for 3 years. It’s important to be able to use bullets and basic formatting like bold and underline when messaging clients.

Another frustration is when a client is filing multiple years: we can’t “group/paperclip” the work tickets together so we can start with the earliest year and move forward in order. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It’s fully integrated with our email, which lets us assign work directly to team members and gives us full visibility into where each item stands. We also use recurring work items with task lists for our monthly and quarterly close clients, which helps keep everything consistent. The integrations with Gusto & Aider are another plus.
