What is Karbon, and what problem is it built to solve?

Karbon is a collaborative practice management platform for accounting firms. It brings teams, clients, systems, and data together in one place to improve visibility, efficiency, and connectivity across locations.

What languages does Karbon support?

Karbon supports 2 languages: English and French.

What company sizes and industries is Karbon the best fit for?

Karbon is most represented among small and mid-market accounting firms. The clearest company-size and industry clusters are:
  • Small businesses: Firms with 50 or fewer employees.
  • Mid-market firms: Organizations with 51–1,000 employees.
  • Accounting: Accounting is the most prominent industry.

How long does it take to implement Karbon across a team?

The most commonly reported time to go live is 1–3 months, though implementation can take less than a month or extend beyond that. Karbon’s workflow configuration and the work involved in adapting team processes can affect the timeline.
Time to go live Relative frequency
1–3 months Most commonly reported
Under 1 month Also reported
3–6 months Also reported
6–12 months or longer Less commonly reported

What customer support options does Karbon provide, and how do users find the overall support experience?

Karbon provides support through email/help desk, chat, and self-service resources such as its knowledge base and FAQs/forum, with 24/7 live-rep support. The support experience is often described as responsive and helpful, including during onboarding and implementation; some users also encounter slower resolution times or difficulty reaching support across time zones.

What is the experience like for teams switching to Karbon from another tool?

Switching to Karbon has often meant bringing email, client work, and task tracking together instead of managing them across separate systems. Prior tools mentioned include accounting and practice-management software such as CCH Axcess and Xero Practice Manager, as well as workflow tools such as Trello, Asana, and Teamwork. Users describe choosing Karbon for more connected communication, clearer workflow visibility, and more flexible automation, while noting that setup and adapting team processes can take effort.

What tools and platforms does Karbon integrate with, and how do these integrations help users get more value from the product?

Karbon offers 71 integrations, with users describing connections that help keep accounting work and client information linked across systems. Examples include:
  • Email and productivity: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft 365, and Google Workspace.
  • Accounting and tax: Xero, QuickBooks Online, and CCH Axcess Tax.
  • Documents and file storage: Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Workflow and business tools: Aider, Filed, Anchor, and AskNicely.
These connections can reduce duplicate entry and help teams keep emails, client records, documents, and work processes connected, though the depth and smoothness of integrations can vary.

What features or capabilities could make Karbon even more useful?

Karbon could be more useful with smoother ways to find information and handle repeated work, alongside more flexibility in reporting and billing. The recurring improvement opportunities include:
  • Improve search: Make it quicker and more reliable to find older emails, notes, and client information.
  • Expand reporting and exports: Add more flexible reports, dashboards, and ways for staff to export work data.
  • Simplify workflow updates: Make bulk changes and edits to recurring work easier, and improve flexibility around task assignments and work dependencies.
  • Refine billing and time entry: Make invoice workflows more adaptable and reduce friction in entering and adjusting time.
  • Improve client document handling: Make document organization and client-facing upload and delivery workflows more flexible.

How useful do Karbon users find its AI features in everyday use?

Karbon’s AI is useful for reducing time spent on communication and finding context, although the results can vary and users still review its output. Day-to-day uses include:
  • Email assistance: Summarizing long threads and drafting or refining client messages, including adjusting tone and clarity.
  • Finding information: Using Kai to locate past conversations, client details, and work items without searching through timelines manually.
  • Work and data queries: Asking for help organizing priorities or identifying work and time information, with usefulness depending on the task and accuracy of the response.

"Exceptional Visibility and Workload Transparency for Hybrid Teams"
5/5
What do you like best about Karbon?

The most helpful thing in Karbon is the visibility and transparency it gives us into clients, communication, status, and workloads. It really supports our firm’s hybrid structure and the ability to work whenever and wherever we need to. Karbon provides enough transparency that you don’t “feel” like you have to come into the office just to stay in the loop.

I can easily view workloads without having to schedule meetings with each staff member, which saves time and makes it easier to manage work across the team. I also like that they’re always trying to reduce the need to use multiple tools across different tech stacks by developing their own. Our team has improved their work, able to determine deadlines, and get work done faster all from Karbon. Our WHOLE firm uses karbon which means that it handles a lot of work items and manages multiple teams. Meaning that we can communicate client information amongst our team faster.

I have been working more with integrating software with Karbon to help reduce the admin tasks that we are currently experiencing while managing multiple software.

I have had a lot of experience with the customer service side of Karbon and the software development team. They have reached out a few times to test some updates and get our feedback which has been very helpful. We are currently testing with Kai (AI agent) and reporting back our findings. I have seen significant improvement with Kai even within the past 3 weeks.

The pricing side of the software is in a normal range. Obviously the software isn't cheap but also it shouldn't be cheap. They are always improving their current processes and helping us to keep reduces other tech stack software's which then means that we are saving money. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Karbon?

I can’t download Sage files through Karbon, which means I have to log into Outlook and download them there. That extra step adds unnecessary time to each work item.

Also, if a client name includes an “&” sign or a “-”, it’s almost impossible to find them in Karbon when using the search feature. These setbacks add extra time to locating work, timelines, and updates, which ultimately eats into our profitability and efficiency. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"My helpful assistant for organising my workload"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Karbon?

I like being able to allocate each email to a specific client or piece of work. I like the visibility this gives me into where I am on a particular job as well as my day-to-day tasks. I like being able to allocate emails and work to different weeks, and assign tasks to other colleagues. How Karbon integrates with Socket for Onboarding new client information saves a lot of time setting up clients manually. The AI tool for summarising lengthy emails is very helpful too. The customer support has been very good when I have needed it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Karbon?

The templates for work I find a bit confusing, although it easy to create my own for my work items. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"All-in-One Practice Management with Easy Code Sharing and Tracking"
5/5
What do you like best about Karbon?

Having all of our practice management in one place has been really helpful. I also like being able to send a code to another user by email, and having that code show up in the timeline for easy tracking. I also enjoy being able to tag team members in easily and they can see the entire thread in realtime and not even be in the email. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Karbon?

The only thing I dislike is not having a dark mode. Other than that, I like karbon is pretty perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. I know Karbon is always improving items and I always look forward to that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Karbon?

I love that Karbon lets us keep everything in one place. The way everything flows together makes it much easier to stay organized, especially when work items and correspondence are connected and easy to track in the same spot. Being able to add emails to client timelines or to the work item timeline has really been a game changer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Karbon?

I think the document sorting has some downfalls. It would be nice to be able to have folders that could be named where you can sort documents out instead of just by work item. Makes it a little harder to find documents quickly, especially if you are not sure what work item the document would have been loaded to. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Triage and My Week Make Email-Driven Task Management Effortless"
5/5
What do you like best about Karbon?

I love that our "inbox" is called "triage" and includes so much more than just our emails, but also comments from other coworkers, and notifications of tasks that need doing, etc. I love that I can attach my emails to the tasks that are set up, so I don't forget to make that payroll change or whatever the email is about. I love that I can use the internal comments feature on an email to get input from a coworker about how to handle that email. I love My Week, where I can see all of the tasks that are there for me this week, and I love that I can post a note for myself there, or put an email there if I need to add a task to this week just this one time. I love that we can all see each others' task lists and email communications with clients if necessary, so that if we're sick or away, someone else can easily see where things are at and take over for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Karbon?

I wish there were a way to add notes to a client's task, say a monthly task, without it being a task you have to click off. So maybe an "add note" option rather than just "add task." And I mean a permanent note that you want there each time, not just a one off, which we can already do. I wish I could add bcc emails to tasks without having to forward the email first. One issue that comes up is that when you want to change the start and end date of a task, you have to end the repeat first, then change it. And often what happens when you end the repeat is the task you were just on when you did that disappears, and you have to go back and find a completed one to then set the repeat up again. Which means that any emails and notes you had attached to that task are now gone, and you have to go find them again. I always have to remember to take a screenshot of what's in the timeline before change the start and end dates so I'll be able to reattach everything. For client requests, when I'm setting up a new one, I wish we had the option to set it up the way we want it now, without having to start next month's task first. What I'm referring to is when it's, say, the 15th of the month now, and you're setting up a client request to get statements, but you want it to go out on the 7th each month. I don't have the option to set it up as the 7th now, because it's already the 15th. I have to set it up now, send it for today, then open next month's task, create task list and budget, then I can set up the recurring task with the date that I want. I also really wish the timer had a clock time associated with it. Sometimes, if I forget to clock in, or more likely, if I started the timer, then paused it, then forgot to restart it, I have no way to figure out what the total time spent should be now. If the timer told me that I clocked in at 1:05 pm, then paused at 2:34 pm, I'd know how much time I need to book for myself at the end of it. And sometimes when I'm looking at my overall time for a day, it would be useful to see the times I worked according to the clock, and not just how many minutes I spent on each task. And I know that my managers would find it useful if they could somehow include vacation time in the budgets for things. If we're on vacation one week, or there's a stat holiday, the utilization percentages mean less. One last thing: I wish we could delete things in Karbon if we needed to. Like when we upload things to the Karbon portal, we can't ever delete them from there, even if we uploaded the wrong thing. And we can't delete any emails, they can only be archived. I used to delete the ones we don't need to keep, to save storage space. Emails like notifications, or 2fa codes, or ads from people could all be deleted in Outlook, but not in Karbon. "Karbon Is a Game-Changer for Email Triage, Workflow Transparency, and Reporting"
5/5
What do you like best about Karbon?

Karbon has been a game changer for our firm, email triage, reporting, workflow management, it's the whole deal! I love that you can delegate triage meaning when someone is away or on leave, their inbox doesn't sit idle and client requests still get actioned. Workflow management is transparent and easy to view, the whole team is across what needs to be done and by when, the reporting - particularly trialling Kai has been phenomenal! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Karbon?

There's a lot involved in the set up, and in hindsight, we would have taken the implementation time as an opportunity to modify our internal processes to fit better within the best practice use. We didn't realise at the time that our experience would have been improved by understanding better how other firms use Karbon AND also if Karbon had a "we recommend doing things this way" element - because it really does require a mindset shift to get the best results. "Makes Workflow and Deadlines Effortless to Manage"
5/5
What do you like best about Karbon?

It makes managing my workflow so much easier overall. It helps me stay on top of my deadlines, which means nothing slips through the cracks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Karbon?

There isn't much that I dislike about it other than some minor e-mail formatting issues. Specifically, I wish there was a way to double space my bullet points and I find that when I want to paste a table or image in the body of my email, I have to write the entire email and then paste the image or table between the lines of text, because once I paste, I am unable to get the cursor below the image to continue writing even just to write the sign off at the end. I also wish that there was an undo button to revert emails to the previous iteration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Modern, Social-Like Workflow That’s Easy for Everyone"
5/5
What do you like best about Karbon?

I think the modernized workflow and organization structure that Karbon used, is its best attribute. It gives younger workers the feeling of almost a social media app (with comments, notifications, etc.) but it also is easy enough to use for someone who is not as familiar with social media platforms. I also like the ability to move things out of my triage into the later tab for things that are important but I do not have enough time to get to right at the moment Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Karbon?

The only dislike I have about Karbon is the lack of features in the mobile app, but I do know that is already on the forefront of Karbon's mind. I am sure this will begin to receive more and more features soon. We also just got the Kai app which is Karbons AI that helps with organize work item order of operations and many other things, such as timeliness and completion of work Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Gave our firm one system to run on, with a few rough edges"
5/5
What do you like best about Karbon?

Karbon has become the hub for how our firm runs. Instead of work being tracked in email, spreadsheets and people’s heads, every engagement now lives in one place with clear owners and statuses. The visibility has been the biggest win. Once our work was in Karbon, we could see exactly where the workload was concentrated and who was holding up reviews, which led to real changes in how we assign work. We’re also moving billing over from QuickBooks so work and invoicing sit in the same system. Templates and automators let us standardize recurring work, and it connects well with other tools, like our intake forms, so new clients come in through one channel instead of going straight to a partner. We compared it head to head with Canopy and chose to stay with Karbon. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Karbon?

Engagement letters are limited. Clients get a single “Agree” checkbox, with no separate signatures or checkboxes for individual consents, so we had to handle some consent language outside of Karbon. Setup also takes real effort. Getting projects, sections and automators structured properly took time, and you’ll want someone who owns the implementation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive and Easy—Karbon Makes Team Collaboration Seamless"
4.5/5
What do you like best about Karbon?

I really love how intuitive and easy Karbon is to use. The commenting and tagging features, in particular, make it simple to stay aligned and keep team collaboration seamless. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Karbon?

While email syncing and core integrations (like Microsoft/Google and major accounting platforms) are generally solid, navigation can occasionally feel sluggish or clunky when jumping between heavy client dashboards or managing massive task lists. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
