**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amit G. | Software Architect, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 30, 2024

**What do you like best about IntelliJ IDEA?**

As java developer and architect I like the following features in intellij

1. Code assistance - Intellij having strong code autocomplete feature, syntax highlighting, warning highlighting, intelligent suggestions, etc boost the productivity. It also recommend the best practices which also give advantage in the big projects.

2. Tools - Intellij having all the required tools are in built so the developer need not to use multiple tools. For example, version control, DB tools, docker, plantUML, etc

3. Debugging and Testing - Intellij Debugging and testing tools are robust and offers live debugging and live inspection of code. Even we can supply new test value while doing debugging as well without restarting the application. It also provide integration with almost all the testing frameworks like Junit, TestNG, Karate, Selenium, etc.

**What do you dislike about IntelliJ IDEA?**

1. Heavy resource required - Inteillj required high RAM to run. So performance on lower end machine is very poor. Also, can not run other software with Intellij.

2. Learing Curve - Learning curve of Intellij is steep and might take sometime to learn the shoutcuts and functionality

3. Cost - I generally uses the community edition, but once i want to right some code in php and tried Intellij for that. But intellij for PHP is paid version and for a small team size of 2 it is too costly to but its license.

**What problems is IntelliJ IDEA solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I would like to solve the following problems

1. When my Intellij opened in full screen mode on MAC and i want to open another project then it will open in another window rather than same window in different tab.
Also, there is no option to club those two windows in single window with multi tabs.

2. Must have all languages support for free.

3. Can recommend the plugins on the basis of usage of the user.
