The HPe 3PAR ASIC is as big as your fist. That ASIC is the workhorse of the 3PAR providing inline deduplication reducing overhead of the CPU. I personally like the System-wide striping feature for greater performance and resilience allowing for faut tolerance at the cage level. Abstracting the physical disk to a virtual state (chunklets) was new to me but makes perfect sense. No longer do I need to deal with RAID groups and such as that with NetApp. 3PAR Dynamic Optimization is an autonomic storage tiering tool that gives the ability to quickly infrastructure requirements such as going from RAID 1 to RAID 5. Stake holder may bock at the price level, personally I feel you get what you pay for as the saying goes. If I had a beef at all it might be the reporting and monitoring. HPe is making strides to develop their 3PAR reporting and configuration tool. Each iteration of development brings out new features but I would like to see greater number of how to videos.
