HAProxy Reviews & Product Details

HAProxy has a very nice graphic charter and excellent documentation (we find the information we are looking for)

The technical support is attentive and very fast.

The handling of the solutions is simple Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There is very little.

The only hitch is on the HAProxy Aloha, I find that the interface is old and has never evolved too much. With a large configuration (Layer 7) it can be difficult to find your way around, whereas it is possible to separate the configuration with HAProxy

Update :

the GUI has been greatly improved. The interface is now much more modern and easier to navigate, especially when dealing with larger Layer 7 configurations. This addresses one of the main drawbacks I mentioned in my original review. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

An easy upgrade, professional support, and a stable system. I feel we are getting very good value for the investment in ALOHA HAProxy. The product is lightweight, easy to use, and straightforward to manage, while still providing the capabilities we need. One of the key advantages for us is the ability to commit configuration changes instantly, which makes configuration updates and operational changes much more efficient.

The support has also been excellent. The support team is professional, responsive, and knowledgeable, and they have been able to guide us effectively when updating the configuration to meet our specific requirements. Overall, the combination of product simplicity, operational efficiency, and strong technical support makes the pricing well justified for us. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It only keeps limited logs, so if I don’t have syslog servers, I won’t have the logs available for investigation. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I really appreciate HAProxy's excellent visibility and troubleshooting capabilities, making it easy to manage and resolve issues. The WAF and SSL Certificate management features are particularly valuable for our needs. Setting up HAProxy was easy, and the support provided is great, making the process smooth for our team. I'd like to see improvements in the Dashboard in Fusion to provide more useful information. Additionally, an automated renewal workflow for Certificate Lifecycle Management would be beneficial. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

HAProxy is celebrated for its unmatched balance of high-performance and deep, granular control. Its lightweight, event-driven architecture handles massive traffic volumes with minimal overhead. Engineers value it for its "bulletproof" reliability, sophisticated health checks, and powerful Layer 4/7 routing, making it an essential, high-efficiency bridge for modern, scalable infrastructure deployments. HAProxy's main downsides revolve around usability:

Configuration Complexity: Managing monolithic configuration files at scale is difficult and prone to error.

Dated UI: The native stats dashboard is purely functional and lacks modern, intuitive management features.

No Static Hosting: It cannot serve static assets, requiring additional infrastructure.

Steep Learning Curve: Configuring complex routing requires significant expertise. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

HAProxy is an absolute workhorse. It offers rock-solid stability and handles massive amounts of traffic with remarkably low CPU and memory consumption. Once you understand the configuration structure, the flexibility it offers through ACLs (Access Control Lists) and traffic routing rules is incredibly powerful. It just runs quietly in the background and rarely ever needs to be babysat. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The learning curve can be pretty steep for beginners. The configuration syntax is highly specific, and making a small typo can sometimes be frustrating to debug. Additionally, the open-source version lacks a native, modern GUI, meaning you have to be comfortable doing everything via the command line and config files (unless you upgrade to the Enterprise version). HAProxy is one of those rare pieces of infrastructure software that you can deploy and essentially forget about — it just works, handles massive traffic with minimal resources, and never surprises you. The combination of a transparent, single-file configuration with powerful features like stick tables, granular health checks, and zero-downtime reloads makes it the gold standard for load balancing. If I'm being honest, the configuration syntax can feel archaic — it's powerful but has a steep learning curve, and the documentation reads more like a reference manual than a guide, which makes onboarding painful. The lack of a native API for dynamic backend management (without reloads or the Runtime API's limitations) also feels outdated compared to more modern alternatives like Envoy, especially in Kubernetes-native environments where service discovery is constantly in flux. HAProxy is incredibly reliable and performant as a load balancer and reverse proxy. Its configuration is flexible enough to handle complex routing rules, health checks, and SSL termination. The stats dashboard is great for real-time monitoring, and it integrates well into CI/CD pipelines and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes). For high-traffic production setups, it’s hard to beat. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The configuration syntax can be unintuitive for newcomers — it takes time to learn the difference between frontend, backend, and listen blocks. Hot-reloading config without dropping connections requires extra care. Better native UI or an official management dashboard would be a welcome addition compared to the basic stats page. I like how efficient HAProxy is, especially when contacting the support agents through the portal. They attended to my request very quickly, which I appreciate. The support site was also valuable for resolving a service request and guiding us on obtaining a new license for the latest deployment. Setting up HAProxy was not bad either; it was quite straightforward by just following the guide. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

nothing really much. So far the interaction with the service agent from the portal was efficient and helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

HAProxy provides a simple and reliable way to manage traffic between internal and external services. I particularly like how easy it is to configure and manage virtual networks and routing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It would be great to have more built-in capabilities around service mesh integration, observability, and Kubernetes networking to simplify complex network topologies and service-to-service communication. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I’d rate it around 8 or 9 out of 10. I would definitely recommend HAProxy for most use cases, especially where you need a high-performance, reliable load balancer. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

One thing I find challenging about HAProxy is the learning curve, especially when dealing with more advanced configurations. The syntax is powerful, but it’s not always the most intuitive, so it can take time to get comfortable with it.

Another aspect is that compared to some newer tools, it’s less ‘plug-and-play.’ For example, solutions like Traefik or Envoy offer more native integration with dynamic environments like Kubernetes, whereas HAProxy often requires additional setup or external tooling to achieve similar flexibility.
