# We're planning to move off F5 BIG-IP, how painful is the migration to HAProxy?

We have existing F5 configurations and production dependencies, so the migration effort is a major
concern. What can be carried over, what usually needs to be rebuilt, and how can the transition be phased safely?

It is more manageable than most teams expect, mainly because it does not have to happen all at once. A common approach is to run HAProxy alongside your existing F5 BIG-IP first, migrate services in stages, validate each one, then decommission the old setup once you are confident. The main effort is translating configuration and iRules logic into HAProxy Enterprise equivalents, and HAProxy's support and professional services teams help map that across. Starting with lower-risk services and moving critical traffic last keeps the whole migration low-risk.
