## Goodnotes Reviews
 ### 1. Goodnotes Makes Virtual and In-Person Tutoring Easy and Organized

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Eileen T. | Math and Science Tutor for High School and College, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Goodnotes?**

I use Goodnotes for most of my student sessions, especially with virtual students. I love how easy it is to insert PDFs or images of worksheets and student problems, then work through them together. We can solve problems in real time, and at the end of the session I can send students the pages we worked on. I also keep each student’s work organized in folders and notebooks, which makes it simple to find everything again later when we need to review.

When working through assignments on worksheet pages, one of the challenges is having worksheets that don’t give you enough space. I can create a quick screenshot of the problem we want to work on and move it elsewhere on the page to work on. Alternatively, if there’s any space at all, we can zoom in, giving us more space. Zooming out generally makes our handwriting look neater. This is particularly useful when filling out tables and diagrams.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

When I share pages from a notebook, I always seem to be limited to sharing only one page at a time. I still haven’t found a way to share a range of pages, so if a session spans multiple pages, I end up manually sharing each page individually, which feels like a waste of time.

Also, every so often while we’re writing, things will disappear. I’m not sure whether that’s a software issue or if there’s something we’re missing in how we’re using it.

Finally, I haven’t found a good way to use the sticky notes. I’ve tried adding them as movable notes, but once I place a sticky note, I haven’t been able to figure out how to move it around afterward.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a tutor who works both in person and virtually. I needed something that would allow us to record what we work on in every session. My area of focus is math and science, so we need something we can use with a stylus that complements our use of paper. I love that I can share my screen and we can look at Goodnotes together. I also love the laser pointer that allows me to point at various things on the screen without ink to muddle things.

 ### 2. The Go-To App for Note Organization

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Anisa B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Goodnotes?**

I like that Goodnotes has been around for a while and is super reliable. I appreciate that they're always adding updates and new features, even if I don't use every single one, it's nice to have the options. They're also really good about feedback, and whenever I've had issues, they've been super quick to help out. I love the new tape feature for keeping things visually interesting and use the shape feature a lot. The handwriting recognition is super useful, and I've been using all the standard pen tool options on my iPad. GoodNotes recognizes all the styluses I use, which is great, and their audio transcription feature is super helpful.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

Sometimes I struggle a little bit with the AI. Sometimes it doesn't always capture the intent I'm trying to have on some of my notes. Also, sometimes GoodNotes can get a little cluttered with so many amazing tools, the UI sometimes can be a lot to navigate. If there was a way to kind of personalize that a bit so it could be cleaner, that would be amazing.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

GoodNotes keeps all my notes in one place and organizes them effectively. I can have separate notes for business and personal life, and it offers tools like transcription without needing separate purchases.

 ### 3. Versatile Note-Taking with Ease and Flexibility

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zac U. | Principal R&D Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Goodnotes?**

I use Goodnotes for both work and home notes, which has replaced my numerous physical notebooks with just an iPad and Goodnotes. It's extremely helpful to be able to quickly jot down notes and then develop them into something more meaningful later. I really like the feature base of Goodnotes, as it allows me to take notes quickly and simply, staying true to its basic offering. The app includes various pens and has good text recognition, which is essential for me given my awful handwriting. It's quick to load most of the time, and I appreciate the ability to use different templates and have different notebooks covering lots of topics. The initial setup was very easy, as I just signed in with my Apple account.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

I would really like to be able to 'rapid open' the app from a locked iPad. If I double tap my screen with the pen, it opens Apple Notes - it would be so much better if this was Goodnotes.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Goodnotes lets me consolidate multiple notebooks into one app. It supports quick note-taking and later development. The various pens, text recognition, templates, and multiple notebooks enhance my experience, making note-taking efficient, even with bad handwriting.

 ### 4. Seamless Sync, Powerful Search, Great for Note-Taking

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sally P. | Life Coach in training, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Goodnotes?**

I love using GoodNotes for several reasons. My absolute favorite feature is the search capability, which is a lifesaver when I need to find specific notes I've taken during lessons or podcasts, especially when I'm looking for a particular quote among many notes. It's mainly for recall, helping me easily locate any instance I've noted down. Moreover, I have been using GoodNotes for years, and it's great for organizing my Bible study PDFs, digital calendar, and various documents for presentations or teachings. I also appreciate that my calendar syncs up to my phone and iPad, making my scheduling seamless across devices. The initial setup was so easy that I don't even remember it being an issue; it's something I absolutely love.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

I don't know if this is a GoodNotes issue or not. When my Google, especially when it comes to my calendar, I can access it on both my phone and iPad. I do most of my work on my iPad, but when I'm away, especially with the calendar, if the storage limit is maxed out, I can't quite share those two interfaces. I would love to see my GoodNotes be able to sync up on both my iPad and my phone without it being like, having to rely on my phone data space.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use GoodNotes for PDF management in my bible study, digital calendaring syncing to my phone, and organizing documents for presentations. The search feature helps me quickly find specific quotes or notes.

 ### 5. Versatile Notetaking Experience with Goodnotes

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Les O. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Goodnotes?**

I use Goodnotes for daily planning and notetaking, and I appreciate having everything in one place, which makes it easy to locate my stuff. I like the versatility and flexibility that Goodnotes provides. I like being able to write or type or even convert handwriting to type. I also like the ability to draw shapes and to use different colors as well as the highlight, which makes my notes more functional. The initial setup was very, very easy. I switched to Goodnotes from a traditional paper planner and would rate the likelihood of recommending Goodnotes at a 10.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

Conversion of handwriting to text could be better. I tend to handwrite using all capital letters, only making the ones that are actual capital larger. When the system translates that it just makes them all capitals. That’s just a unique problem that I have. Sometimes the handwriting recognition isn’t the best.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Goodnotes for daily planning and notetaking. It allows me to have everything in one place, making things easy to locate.

 ### 6. Highly Valuable Tool for Real Estate Appraisal

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Joel S. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Goodnotes?**

I find Goodnotes very valuable for my daily work as a real estate appraiser. It's one of my most important software tools because I use it for marking up PDFs, JPEGs, other images, sketching, and taking notes. I also appreciate its syncing capabilities, which mean all my files are waiting for me in the office when I get back. What's great is that it just works, and that's something I really like about it. While I don't use all of its features, I enjoy the reliability and the fact that it mostly works flawlessly.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

Sometimes the character recognition is a little wonky. I'll be sketching a property, and it'll suddenly do a math equation. Or it will think that we erased something when I did a squiggly line. That kind of stuff happens, but it's few and far between.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Goodnotes daily as a real estate appraiser. It helps me do markups, sketch, take notes, and sync files back to the office. It's very valuable and was a switch from doing things by hand.

 ### 7. Versatile Note-Taking for College Students

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Živa L.

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Goodnotes?**

I love how many color options Goodnotes has and how it really makes note-taking fun. Additionally, I love that I can import different documents, which is quite convenient. The initial setup was very easy for me, which was a plus. Also, a lot of my friends at college use Goodnotes and from what I can tell, they really enjoy it.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

I think importing PowerPoint presentations is quite bad; it totally changes the layout. The same issue happens when importing Word files. It would be great if the layout on the presentation wouldn’t change so that you can actually read what it says on it, because now it makes some words big, some small, or it deletes a few words.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I write my lecture notes and study from them. It allows me to have PowerPoint presentations and PDFs from my professors that I can write on.

 ### 8. A Must-Have for Student Note-Taking

Sometimes it's slow when I use other apps like Safari.

I appreciate the cloud saving feature that allows me to view my notes anywhere, whether on my tablet or laptop. GoodNotes was super easy to set up, which I appreciated.

Sometimes it does lag and crash if it gets too crazy. Maybe more support or more frequent updates could help.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use GoodNotes for task management with deadlines, advance planning, and creating a log for referencing past activities. Cloud saving lets me view notes anywhere, and uploaded templates make navigation quick.

Since losing my mom, it's been invaluable for keeping all of her estate paperwork together. I find the variety of templates available very helpful, along with the ability to make corrections and updates to pictures I've uploaded. Overall, being able to utilize templates from Pinterest and having multiple outlets for organization make Goodnotes very valuable to me.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

There is nothing I can think of at this time that I dislike about Goodnotes. It’s constantly improving.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Goodnotes helps keep my work organized, manages scheduling, and stores important paperwork, like my mom's estate and financials. Having everything in one place with various templates keeps me organized.

I absolutely love Goodnotes so much and would definitely recommend it.

I think that the syncing could be easier, sometimes when I log in it will shut down to sync and then I have to reopen it.

I love using Goodnotes for studying and reviewing notes for university. It significantly reduces the need to use lots of paper, which I really appreciate. The best feature for me is the ability to move stuff around after writing. If I mess up the spacing or want something categorized with a separate note, I can easily move it around, change colors, and highlight as needed. Additionally, the initial setup of Goodnotes was quite easy. I'm very likely to recommend it to a friend or colleague.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

I think the ability to have more shapes / free shape drawing is better.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Goodnotes to avoid using lots of paper and easily reorganize notes after writing, like moving stuff around, changing colors, and highlighting.

I think improving the typing feature instead of adding text to follow the page layout, for example if it is outline that it follows the lines when typing or making spaces

The interface is very intuitive and easy to understand at a glance, and it’s really convenient to import materials from third-party apps.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

Recently, with all the added features like AI, the app feels heavier and uses a lot more memory. I’ve also noticed that when I’m writing, my handwriting doesn’t appear exactly as I wrote it — it seems slightly auto-corrected or smoothed out, which I’m not a big fan of.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Goodnotes helps me focus on the core experience of digital handwriting and note-taking. It makes organizing and writing notes simple and efficient, so I can concentrate more on studying and capturing ideas rather than managing files or tools.

 ### 18. Effortless Note-Taking and Organization Made Simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Goodnotes?**

I appreciate how helpful this tool is for taking notes, and I find it quite interactive, which keeps things interesting. It's very simple to create folders, upload photos, and add notes directly to them. Organizing both notes and pages is straightforward, so I never feel confused or overwhelmed.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

The main area I would like to see improved is the search function. While it performs well with typed notes, it occasionally misses some handwritten words. Additionally, I’ve observed that very large notebooks may take a moment to load. These issues aren’t significant, but they do become noticeable when I’m working with a large number of pages.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Before I started using GoodNotes, I was constantly switching between physical notebooks, PDFs, and various note-taking apps, which made it difficult to keep my materials organized. GoodNotes has streamlined this process by providing a single location for all my meeting notes, reference materials, and annotated documents. As a result, I feel more organized at work, spend less time searching for information, and find it much easier to share notes with colleagues when necessary.

 ### 19. Seamless Note-Taking with Excellent Sync and Whiteboard Features

The to-do list feature is also incredibly helpful, and setting it up was very easy—just download and go. I recommend it to everyone at work.

 ### 21. Great for Organizing Exhibition Notes, But Needs Smoother Performance

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 18, 2025

**What do you like best about Goodnotes?**

As a curator, I like Goodnotes for keeping exhibition notes organised and searchable. It lets me sketch layouts, annotate floorplans, and compile provenance details easily. Handwriting recognition is accurate, and syncing across devices helps me work smoothly between gallery, office, and storage areas.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

I dislike that Goodnotes can lag with large image-heavy files, which I use for exhibition plans. Switching between devices sometimes causes sync delays, and organising many notebooks can feel cluttered. I also wish the shape and drawing tools were more precise for layout work.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Goodnotes addresses my need to keep exhibition notes, sketches, and provenance information organised in a single, searchable location. It has replaced my scattered paper files, making it much easier to write reports quickly thanks to its handwriting recognition. **What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alibek C. | CFO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Goodnotes?**

(one) best writing experience using apple pencil so far, even the native notes are no match in this aspect. I'm coming from a long-term experience with pencils and digital writing, been using ThinkPad convertible notebook/tablet (x220T) throughout my MBA, and back in the day, there was no apple pencil, so this machine got me through along with the MS OneNote. And today, you don't have to lug your notebook around, an ipad is more than enough for your studies. Now I also use an e-ink android tablet, which tbh is noteworthy subpar in terms of palm rejection causing much trouble when you write and pencil tip is also gets a bit off when jotting around the corners. so the ipad is much better in terms of writing experience, yet, there is a catch, native notes, ms Onenote are not handling the pencil well, and this is the are where goodnotes catchup.
(two) and yes, YOU CAN ADD PDFS/files/whatever to the section and all these docuements become a part of the section as well. and they stay SEPARATE, i.e. not embedded into the notebook, like Evernote or OneNOte does. that's probably something boiling down to a personal choice however i prefer GN's approach because I annotated so many PDFs inside the Evernote, and there is no visually organized way to have a look at all the files, theyre hidden inside the evernote's notes.

**What do you dislike about Goodnotes?**

goodnotes IMHO are not are the best in terms of canvas thing, i.e. onenote has infinite canvas stretching both horizontally and vertically, allowing you to find anything just by scrolling downwards or upwards, it's sort of a timeline that you slide along.
and the goodnotes force you to add new pages, which, maybe good, but when you try to locate anything you have to slide beetween endliess pages, not convenient. and also tag cloud is missing (shotout to obsidian here), so all your notebooks are still stacked up in a tree-like structure with to cross links. It's like you have biology section and you got a cell structure notebook there, but it is not accessible outside of this section.
it's paid and the plans are complicated. and i've been using onenote/evernote for a dozen of years on windows+ipadOS+macos+android fine. but when it comes to GN, one-off contract gets you iOS only version ! what?! i mean if you plan to use goodnotes on multiple devices where some are outside apple's ecosystem, you're still stuck with annual recurring fee for cross-platform sync so i ditched goodnotes eventually.
and yeah, i didn't figure out how to get local copies of notes stored on my ipad in case goodnotes decide to shut down their servers.

**What problems is Goodnotes solving and how is that benefiting you?**

good to organize handwritten notes and do a little bit of file management. d
