" Powerful switch for use in Backbone"

What do you like best?

Extreme switches are excellent switches to be implemented in telecommunications backbone networks. It has very efficient Layer 2 protection protocols, such as STP and its proprietary protocol, EAPS.

Its MPLS and Layer 3 routing functions also work very well. It integrates well with our transmission technologies and accepts transceveirs from multiple vendors.

What do you dislike?

One of the disadvantages of the Extreme line of switches is the acquisition value of the switches, which compared to other vendors becomes high.

Another downside we had was with Extreme's specialized support, where we encountered a problem using common links in EAPS, and support was unable to resolve this issue.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Extreme switches deliver a lot of quality and many possibilities in the implementation. They will surely help a lot in the development of your network, either in backbone network or Data Center environments, because it supports several protocols and integrates very well with other vendors.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Extreme Swicths, we have been able to increase our ability to deliver customer services and facilitate the integration of our data transmission technologies, specifically our DWDM network, with Backbone switches. Its layer 2 protection functions also help a lot in the resiliency of our Backbone.

"Implementation of Extreme Networks in the corporate environment."

What do you like best?

Very simple CLI interface, extensive reference documentation for consultation that facilitates implementation and with examples of configurations that serve as a starting point, support services such as EAPS that guarantees optimal protection in L2, MPLS support and its services, L2VPN and L3VPN , VPLS, OSPF, BGP, MPBGP, STP, RSTP, VMAN, among other protocols, etc.

What do you dislike?

Extreme Networks has handled us very well, we had some problems in implementing the services of VPLS and common links in EAPS, but nothing that would compromise the services, generally not given to complain.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Easy implementation, satisfactory cost benefit, final customer satisfaction with delivered results, excellent reference documentation for consultation and configuration execution and case studies for a good starting point, support for the most current protocols, interoperability with other suppliers, etc..

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Failure of services L2, Lan to Lan, implementation of the feature with the VMAN that allows us to make selective QinQ or not for the VLAN encapsulation, guaranteeing better utilization of vlan number usage, thus avoiding its exhaustion, MPLS Backbone construction improving performance in packet forwarding, etc.

What Data Center Networking solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Extreme Experiences and Features"

What do you like best?

Great switch for use in both backbone and CPE.

Where according to its version we can implement in addition to L2 services, also L3 services.

O using as a switch in L2, we can implement several protocols, like OSPF, BGP, ISI among others.

What do you dislike?

In its use implementing EAPS with sharing of links, it has a certain instability, not advising the use of the common-link.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great switch that allows us to use different forms of use in our backbone, thus advising other users to use them.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Great switch with several models and according to a brief planning, will meet all the requested demand.

At the moment we use in our backbone the models x670-48v, x460 g2, and models like x430 and x440 like CPE of accesses.

"Extreme Networks"

What do you like best?

I like that the syntax to configure and manage switches is very simple and easy to adapt to even after knowing other syntax for years.

What do you dislike?

There is not much that i dislike not that the system is in place. I disliked the prep work to get everything swapped out smoothly. That is not a reflection of the product at all though.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's an affordable network solution that is very easy to learn how to manage.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are solving the issue of finding an affordable networking solution to replace our current end of life equipment.
