# Which engineering document management software supports role-based approval workflows and immutable revision history so every change is traceable back to who approved what?

&lt;p&gt;What actually decides it is whether the team needs CAD-aware revision control or document-level control — Teamcenter and Synergis Adept win when released drawings and models must be locked at the file level with CAD tool integration, while M-Files and DocuWare win when the approval workflow and audit trail matter more than deep CAD linkage. DocuWare is the one G2 reviewers quietly drop for engineering-specific use cases, consistently noting that its revision control holds up for office documents but lacks the drawing and model awareness that regulated engineering teams need to satisfy an auditor.&lt;/p&gt;
