This is even more noticeable when you are collecting data for a large project. Doing away with 20+ paper data forms and having it all digital helps with data cleaning and uploading at the project's end. Overall, Ecobot speeds up our data collection and manipulation process on the back end. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** Ecobot could use some updates for better UX and design, especially around the soils section. The scrolling options for soil colors often scroll out of the selection that you've made. It would be helpful to be able to clone soil layers. The biggest issue we have with Ecobot is its inability to calculate your hydric soils and autoselect for your hydric soil indicator. We make decisions in the field and then re-check them using other methods back in the office, but if Ecobot could auto-populate our hydric soil indicators, it would make this product for us. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** Providing a digital method for data collection. Provides an efficient way to manage data back in the office. Overall, is efficient and allows our team to be more productive. ### 2. Easy to revise and sync. Stays up-to-date with vegetation names and indicator status. The ability to export a comprehensive vegetation list is great, along with each plant's associated data point location. Pays for itself with the time saved that would otherwise be spent creating cumbersome data sheets. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** I tend to lose GPS connection when I toggle between Ecobot and Field Maps, but that may not be Ecobot's doing. Also, the ability to see common names alongside Latin names when I select a plant (I'm bad at remembering Latin names) would be great, to know which ones I've already input. And maybe a list of "commonly used" plants for the project, for an easy select once I've already created a few data points and I'm re-using vegetation we see commonly. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** The ability to create data points efficiently and quickly in the field, and knowing on the spot if an area is a wetland or not (sometimes it's borderline and it saves me the math with the dominance test and the prevalence index). It has all the most current indicator statuses for vegetation and I won't have to look them up independently. All in all it saves a ton of time in the field and with data compilation after field work, when I'm writing reports. I imagine it pays for itself quickly if you have several projects a year. ### 3. Plant indicator statuses are updated regularly and easy to look up, removing the headache of carrying large booklets to ensure proper use through the separate regional zones. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** I can't say I dislike much, I have run into issues with plant species not being available, but upon emailing the team, ecobot quickly updated the list. i have always been happy to use ecobot compared to paper data sheets. **Recommendations to others considering Ecobot:** if you are completing wetland delineations for any purpose this is your app **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** By using ecobot, we no longer have to deal with dirty, messy, or unorganized datasheets. Our plant list is based on the most recent National Wetlands Plant List (NWPL). If ever a plant isn’t showing up on our database, you’re able to type directly into the Scientific Name field, and you can select your desired indicator status. Indicator status can always be changed manually, even in cases where it automatically populates based on your region. It helps to cut down on human error. I also use the library of scientic names for the vegetation. Overall, it speeds up the time to complete fieldwork **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** Although it is most helpful, the suggestions of scientific names while searching only works if you spell a name perfectly and include any hyphens. However, they are constantly improving usability and patching any bugs they find. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** Data inconsistencies between the field team and the office can slow the reporting process. Eco bot solves this by streamlining many tedious pieces and organizing the data. ### 7. Easy-to-fill-out forms and prompts help to facilitate thoughts about what makes a wetland and helps with the creation of data forms on the back end. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** I don't enjoy the soil section of ecobot. Its a little difficult to specify different layers with multiple colors or multiple redox types. It's not hard to work around but can be a little tedious in the field. Not a deal breaker though. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ecobot helps to organize data collection in the field in a way that is much easier to sort through on the back end when report writing. Ecobot has been helpful in tailoring data management requirements to our needs, supporting local state-by-state requirements, and accommodating specific GPS hardware requirements we brought to them. Auto calculating vegetation percentages and formulas is very helpful. Previously, we recorded data point information in notebooks, and entered it in the office using Microsoft Access which was time consuming. All calculations needed to be done in the field by hand/in your head prior to ecobot use. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** Sometimes I can accidentally forget to complete a field or add soil depth to additional redox colors, thus deleting that layer. If there was a pop up notification telling the user that they forgot to fill out a field, reminding them to check YES for a parameter that was met (such as having a hydrology indicator checked, but forgetting to check YES for hydrology parameter met), or notifying the user that a soil layer is missing a dept but has data entered would be very helpful. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** Using ecobot lessens lengthy data entry back in the office. This is helpful for our report timelines and budgets. This can sometimes take a lot of time in the field or back at the office so this feature helps to save time and budget. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** Sometimes the app is difficult to use when service is spotty. Specifically, the NWI and soil mappers are not able to be accessed. Would be great if there was a way to allow offline access to these features. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ecobot is helping a lot with the QA/QC aspect of the data collection. I would like if you could "favorite" plants so that they come up immediately for ones typically seen in your region. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** Paper forms used to be the norm. Keeping those organized and ensuring all relevant data was collected was sometimes tricky. Ecobot's ability to look up plants in the field and know the indicator status is very useful. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** Only downside we have found is that some common names for plants are not in the Ecobot look up but you can work around that by looking up alternative names on another device. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ecobot saves us time and energy in the field by not requiring us to bring paper copies of forms and by provide plant look up in the field to allow to more accurately delineate an area. ### 24. I like that the program contains easily accessible descriptions for hydrology and hydric soil indicators; this feature is especially helpful when training new staff. I like that I can easily access and share data with my teammates. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** I generally have issues accessing the Wetlands Mapper and SoilWeb map while out in the field. I think it could be helpful when searching vegetation to be able to just start typing either a common or a scientific name and pull up results without having to click on the separate tabs. Additionally, I think it could be helpful to add some additional reference information on the vegetation such as including USDA plant fact sheets, images, or ranges. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ecobot solves organizational and tracking problems. It helps us not have to keep track of paper forms, which are easy to lose, misplace, or drop in the mud. Ecobot contains reference information directly in the app which helps us not have to keep track of as many different field guides or switch between programs. Ecobot functions entirely offline, with only a handful of external supplementary links and the process of downloading a basemap from Esri’s servers requiring a data connection. Your data lives locally on your device until you regain service and can sync your project to the cloud. We’d be happy to set up a training to make sure all this is familiar before you head back into the field. Have you checked out the auto-population of location data from the web dashboard? You can automatically fetch location data based on your point location, which will populate the NWI Map and Soil Map Unit Name fields for you! ### 25. It also does the dominance test and FAC-neutral math for you. The soil indicator descriptions are also very helpful for checking yourself while still in the field. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** We really have to watch that we check projects in when we leave the field, otherwise someone has to get to the iPad to check a project back in before we can do anything on desktop. I'm not sure there's much to be done about that, though. I'm also looking forward to when they change things so that a project created on desktop by one person can be viewed by any person from the group who is logged in on the iPad. **Recommendations to others considering Ecobot:** Try to have an ipad that will last all day during field work, so you don't have to worry about checking in projects when switching devices. A battery bank strapped to an ipad will generally help. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** We're saving a ton of time on reviewing math and species indicators during our QA process. The app is easy to use in the field and can be edited from a desktop, which allows editing from home without needing to bring field equipment. The final PDFs always look very neat and clean. The Ecobot team is very responsive and takes client feedback into account when updating the app and its features. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** In our team's experience, we wish some of the app defaults were more useful. For instance, if a hydrophytic vegetation indicator or hydric soil indicator is met/checked, it would save a small amount if the app automatically marked those sections as "yes". It's a minor inconvenience rather than an app flaw. Downloaded PDFs can be challenging to edit due to format and font issues, but generally, edits are easy to make in the datasheets themselves. **What problems is Ecobot solving and how is that benefiting you?** Ecobot helps us speed up our delineations significantly. The built-in features allow us to quickly look up the indicator statuses of plants or to reference hydric soil indicators. Additionally, we spend far less time inputting field data after the fact because it is easy to complete all the fields at the moment. I also like that you can do that for individual parts of the datasheet not just all of them. **What do you dislike about Ecobot?** I dislike that you have to create a "new" project for each person in the field. With other programs, you can open up the survey with just your account; no need to create a new project just to use it. Also, you cannot view other people's datapoints while out in the field because of this; each person has their own separate "project," and therefore, no immediate syncing can be done. The datapoints have to be downloaded from each person, instead of them all being in the cloud in one place. **Recommendations to others considering Ecobot:** I think it is what it is and it does what it does. It is not the only product out there that does things like this. I would like to have the ability to create a list of favorites for the species list.
