I really like how easy it is to navigate the interface. As a previous user of other LMS, I find Brightspace's design very pretty and intuitive. I had no trouble designing my class and I could (only with the help of tutorials) set up dates, attendance lists, assignments, evaluations, and more. Also, I love the way everyone at support service keeps in touch with us, letting us know the status of our cases. They, very kindly, make sure the problem is solved. By the way, I find the ASC Support Portal very easy to use to create a case and keep track of the process too. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** Something that can improve about Brightspace, I think, is the integration of certain encrypted content (forms, videos, or presentations) from other pages, which —sometimes— are not compatible. And, it would be fantastic to be able to have our online classes from the same platform. **What problems is D2L Brightspace solving and how is that benefiting you?** Brightspace is our LSM platform for graduate and postgraduate programs. It gives us a very formal, institutional, and innovative approach to our educational process. One of this chalenfes was the content migration from our legacy custom CMS, migrating the content from Flash to HTML5 objects, and D2L was able to support and remediate any issue on the fly. Also, the hability to scale. In Pandemic, we had the challenge to migrate hundreds of thousand users from offline to online and we did it in a couple weeks. Also, we rolled out some new courses from scratch in 2 weeks, from idea to deliver! **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** We faced some issues with integrations with third party systems during the years, the learning curve is too steep in some points, only using the documentation, we had to raise some tickets for some doubts. Some design decisions affected duplication of content due the logic used, that wasn't the best one. Perhaps some success case templates to guide during course creations might help. **What problems is D2L Brightspace solving and how is that benefiting you?** The scale we have in our business has ruined some other solutions, but D2L was able to handle the load without any issues, the users accessed and consumed the content without any problem, and very fast. the hability to make fast changes also, it helped a lot on many situations. ### 8. Updates are constantly applied to help teachers and students have a simpler and more organic use, to digitize and automate processes. At Anáhuac University Querétaro, we have promoted the constant use of the platform to upload content, develop activities, use the grade center, take attendance, and have records of progress and competency fulfillment of our students. All of this helps us have the necessary evidence for different accreditation processes, internal quality control, etc. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** Although it is not something inherent to the platform, I believe there is a need for more in-person meetings for LATAM where we can share experiences and meet providers that have integrations with D2L Brightspace. Regarding the use of licenses, I would like a monthly usage report by type of licensing to be provided, as sometimes there is little visibility and the costs can become very high. **What problems is D2L Brightspace solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am pleased that generative AI is being integrated into various processes and tools, as I believe it can be very beneficial for teachers to reduce the time spent on content creation, questions, rubrics, etc. Although we do not currently have the full acquisition of this version, the implementation of Creator+ (from the demo offered by D2L) seems very interesting to me, as all the interactive work tools are within the platform, are easy to configure, and are quite fun and useful, even for university students. However, something that concerns me is the potential technical failures when a course is exported, for example from one instance to another; considering that one was created with Creator+ and the other did not have it contracted. ### 9. I enjoyed the learner moose mascot that accompanied D2L certificate training. I also enjoyed select members of the D2L support team that were assigned to my account, who are professional, reliable, and helpful. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** Frequent staff turnover of D2L representatives assigned to our contract, meant a lot of wasted time bringing new D2L team members up to speed on our needs/status, only to have those people replaced again. I can't even remember half the names of the people that were a revolving door on our file. Many of the features that D2L uses to sell itself to potential clients do not come standard. There are multiple paywalls, that can be a surprise to clients who believed they were getting all of the functionality that D2L uses in it's marketing and instructional training content. Support for screen readers, Creator Plus, Performance Plus, Storefront...everything was at an additional fee. The platform was designed for schools and academic institutions. As such there is a lot of support for synchronous courses, (semester based courses), and creating learner groups, assignments, and discussions. Even the training provided to companies for their super admins is focused on how D2L can be utilized for teachers/schools. It didn't adequately suit our purpose for utilizing the platform. **What problems is D2L Brightspace solving and how is that benefiting you?** A hosting platform for training we develop specific to our industry. ### 13. We've been using it for more than 10 years. HTML pages are easily controlled, and using template courses is easy. I'm also in the D2L Accessibility User group, and it's really great to learn a variety of things you can do within Brightspace. We are a corporate customer. We have used professional services to get us started and we can now create most of our content, it is just a matter of time. When we first came onboard, we uploaded our current scorm content from another provider and have been building courses with HTML pages as we have been updating our courses. We have recently added Creator Plus which will make creating the pages easier. We work closely with our Customer Success team, attend conferences to gain more knowledge of the product. You can be as engaged as you want to be and this has helped to move our growth along. We have been able to integrate with our HRIS to create users, put users into groups and disable users when they are on leave or terminated. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** This is not an issue perse with Brightspace, but having the time to create the content is always the issue. I don't need a checklist now when creating content, but certainly, needed to ensure to follow the steps to get courses ready to publish in the beginning. The certificate they have seems like it would benefit a teacher building/supporting their course but I'd love to have an option for designers and backend admin. In addition, some of the embedded tools and functionalities have a steep learning curve as they can be rather complex and difficult to master. This has caused frustration for some instructors leading some to not use Brightspace tools to their full potential. An ongoing issue for me has been the difficulty and time required to grade discussion forum posts when students post anonymously. These posts need to be graded manually, which can be overwhelming when teaching a large class, for example. Although I believe the option to post anonymously is important, not just for accessbility reasons but also to encourage students to communicate openly and honnestly, especially when the topic is personal or controversial. A last challenge with Brightspace for me is with the integrated grading tool. It can be clunky and difficult to use and issues often arise. For example, it is difficult and frustrating to annotate/comment/grade using the handwriting (or drawing) tool. After using Brightspace as our LMS for the last school year, we are noticing more usage of the LMS by faculty who resisted either using an LMS or were afraid of changing from our previous one to this one. We had anticipated a lot of support calls, but the number normalized rather quickly. Most faculty we speak to are very pleased with the ease of use and intuitive nature of Brightspace. With the correct product setup and understanding of digital pedagogy, it is possible to create learning experiences that are seamless and engaging for students in the online space, whether this is the mode of delivery or as a supplement. **What do you dislike about D2L Brightspace?** The embedded email system is antiquated. Because of the massive amount of customizations possible, some clients may have a very different experience in terms of tool availability, ease of use, and standard layout. My institution has a rather large, internally-tiered customer support system, so I can't comment on what users might expect from D2L. **What problems is D2L Brightspace solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have had struggles with incorporating interactive activities into the online learning space, but I have recently learned that D2L has made this functionality more streamlined with their Creator and Lumi suites, and with H5P (which is now an official partner). ### 50.
