Most of the software industry seems to have moved "beyond" estimation. I'd argue they have regressed. It is very hard to estimate the cost of a software project, true, but COSMIC at least makes it possible. I have been in real trouble not pricing my projects properly in the past, but ever since I adopted COSMIC I feel much more confident about it. Even though it seems like the best abstraction for estimating software size that is available, after getting a 87% score on the exam I still feel like there are some ambiguities in deciding the exact size of a piece of software. Learning the tool also took a while. Doesn't matter though: as long as CFP estimations are close enough, then cost estimations will be close, too. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
