What I like best about Codecademy is the amount of education they offer for their free services. Codecademy offers free education on just about every topic they have. You have the option to pay for additional education, but their free version can certainly guide you towards your goals. They offer a wonderful step by step process on each topic, for me, that would be Javascript and Python. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

My dislike regarding Codecademy would be how some of the information taught in the topics and how it resonates with me compared to Khan Academy. For instance, I learned SQL in Khan Academy, and they made it so easy to understand. I then went through the Codecademy SQL tutorial, and I had a hard time following it. Luckily, I already had a background it in, but still, it was hard to follow. The simplicity was lost in the SQL tutorial for Codecademy.

I'd also like to comment on the lack of video tutorials. Maybe there are video's in the paid version vs the free one, and it's not a huge dislike, but rather something that I'd like to see. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I love that I can follow along on interactive coding exercises for all types of programming languages at my own pace, and that it's free! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

On a couple of occasions, the interactive exercises have glitched and not accepted my answer, even though it was correct. Unfortunately sometimes they need to match the "answer" 100%, even if the code is still technically correct (example: adding an additional line break or commenting out something). I like how all the courses have lessons and hands-on learning exercises so that you can use the knowledge you just learned. Personally, it helps me to be able to put the things I learn to practice and that's really beneficial. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I don't feel that the courses are intuitive at times which can cause me to spend more time than necessary to finish up a course lesson. It's usually in the hands-on instructional part of the course where I feel I spend more time re-reading the lesson trying to figure out what I did wrong to only ask the program to give me the answer finally so I can figure it out on my own.Though it doesn't occur often, it can be a very frustrating experience for someone that has no background on the course's topic. Let's be clear, you will not be the world's best from this. But it's a good starting point! It's user-friendly for beginners, you have access to lots of different languages, it has a nice set-up (divided screen with theory, practice area, and real life results), the lessons are structured and paced well for beginners, no experience is necessary for starting, and there is a lot you can learn for free. No real dislikes so far. I'm still new. I suppose it sort of starts slow and the jumps deeper quite fast or at least that's how I felt. I would also be interested to see reviews from folks who have used this for one or more years. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Codecademy explains so well the principles of programming that even a beginner will understand without any problem. For me the best thing is that the screen is devided into three parts: 1. theory that your need to read 2. in the middle of the screen there is a part where you do coding 3. on the left from coding part you see the final result of your coding, let´s say - what would appear on the screen if you write a certain code. The platform checks in real time wether you did the programming exercise well or not. They also provide hints to exercises and a correct solution in case you are stuck. All the lessons are divided into small steps, which is handy for learning. And these all in a free subscription option. There's not much to dislike, but one thing is that their courses and lessons are not very customizable, meaning you are only working on pre-designed projects. It is a really nice interactive resource to learn about a lot of coding and programming stuff. It starts from a very basic level and goes up to developing apps in a slow step by step process. The dislike factor is not really much, its just that when I was learning using codeacademy as a student I used to feel that some of the pro features were needed but not affordable for me at that time. The Code Academy was something I came across as I was looking to understand coding from a basic level. This course provides all the necessary instructions to get you up and running and understanding code from the backend of things. Coding is hard! It takes practice practice practice but it's paid off. Working with the Code Academy has been frustrating only in the fact that coding is difficult. If you think that this will be a simple way to learn coding it absolutely is but don't expect results overnight.
