# Which API Documentation Management solutions reduce onboarding time for external partners and vendors

I keep hearing teams talk about how much support time goes into walking external partners and vendors through API integration, so I looked at what G2 reviewers say about the tools built to solve exactly that in API documentation management.

ReadMe (4.5 stars, 46 reviews): reviewers describe partners and vendors onboarding faster with far fewer repeat support questions once OpenAPI sync keeps the reference docs current automatically, and several separately mention it improving the experience for customers and partners together. The tradeoff is that deeper customization and admin settings take some time to learn.

Launchpad Developer Portal for Apigee (5 stars, 20 reviews): reviewers repeatedly describe giving technical partners a self-service place to register applications and pull documentation themselves, cutting the back-and-forth that used to run through engineering. It's a small review base so far, and a few reviewers note portal customization is limited for teams wanting a very specific look.

MuleSoft Anypoint Platform (4.4 stars, 893 reviews): the category's G2 Grid Report Leader by a wide margin, with the highest market presence score in the category. Reviewers didn't speak directly to partner onboarding time in what I read, but its scale and developer portal capabilities make it worth checking against the two above, and reviewers do consistently flag a steep learning curve and high licensing costs.

If you've actually moved partners or vendors through onboarding on one of these, what made the real difference: the documentation itself, or the self-service account and access management around it?

I’d measure onboarding by the first successful authenticated API call made without internal engineering help. That would separate good-looking documentation from genuinely self-service onboarding. I’d also give a partner intentionally incomplete credentials or an outdated request example. How quickly they can diagnose those failures from the portal itself probably tells you more about reduced support dependency than the happy-path documentation does.
