## Cloudways Reviews
  ### 1. Backups failed when it mattered, support made it worse

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

The platform itself is easy to use and server setup is straightforward. When things are working normally, performance is solid. That's what drew me in — simple managed hosting with reliable backups. Unfortunately, when something actually goes wrong, the backup system and support fall apart completely.

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

Their backup restore system completely failed when I needed it most. A plugin broke my site on April 14, and despite having a manual backup and hourly backups enabled, the restore would not work. I spent 12+ hours with their engineers who kept telling me they were working on a migration — which was not true. Nothing was happening.

After half a day of false updates, I had to come up with the fix myself: spin up a brand new server and have them manually apply the backup. Now I'm paying double server and double Cloudflare costs because their platform couldn't do a basic restore.

I submitted a compensation ticket. Five days later, no response. They viewed it, silently downgraded my priority from high to normal, and went quiet. The support experience was honestly worse than the technical failure.

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cloudways is supposed to solve the complexity of managing cloud servers so you can focus on your business. And on a normal day, it does that. But the moment something breaks, you're on your own. Their backup system — the one feature that's supposed to protect you — failed completely, and their support made it worse by wasting 12 hours of my time with false updates. I'm now actively looking at other hosting providers.

**Official Response from Ali Jamil:**

> Hi,

We're sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed feedback.

After looking over your case, we can confirm that the initial restore attempt encountered a disk space issue, which was resolved before the restore completed successfully. Our team then helped with rolling back a subsequent restore to recover missing WooCommerce orders, followed by migrating your application to a new server.

Your site is now live and stable. We understand the downtime had a real impact on your business, and we are currently reviewing your request regarding charges. A member of our team will be in touch directly to follow up. If you'd like to connect sooner, please reach out via your open support ticket and reference this review so we can prioritize your case accordingly.

Your feedback is valuable to us — it helps us identify areas for improvement, and we're committed to making things right.

Best Regards,
Cloudways

  ### 2. An absolute nightmare

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Courtney S. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

Nothing - literally nothing worked. Not the payment dashboard, not the support, etc. Hands down the worst experience we have had with a hosting company.

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

Everything. They would threaten to take our site down for non-payment, except the payment dashboard did not function properly. It was missing critical fields, like where to add credit card info to submit payment. The "support team" literally would argue and send the same steps over and over, but the payment page never appeared. The best part? They were charging my Paypal account, which seemed to be the only way to pay, AND THEN PROCEEDED TO DELETE OUR HOSTING ENVIRONMENT for non-payment. You cannot make this up. We had one site with them. Moving that site from WP Engine was the worst mistake we ever made. There was a DDOS attack on the server and they tried to cover it up and blame it on non-payment. Stay away from this company. They are dishonest and customer support is non-existent.

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Nothing Cloudways did benefitted us at all.

  ### 3. Cloudways is the worst possible choice for any serious business to host their website

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sandaruwan M. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

We used to be fairly happy with Cloudways until this happened.

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

I have had some really terrible experiences hosting with them. In one instance I set up a new client website on a Cloudways server. Everything was going fine. Then a few hours later they terminated my server without warning.

The worst part is they suspend your login - so you can't even login and talk to support. I had to login with a different Cloudways account and ask for support on the account that had been suspended. When I finally got in touch with support they ran around in circles totally clueless and my site was down for hours. I actually had to move my site to a different server altogether so that my site wouldn't have extended downtime.

When I asked them what the issue was, they claimed that their system had flagged my account for spam. I was never notified by email, never given an opportunity to respond or take any corrective action. They just terminated my servers.

If you host with Cloudways they WILL arbitrarily suspend your account and terminate your servers with no warning. It will not be for any actual violations of their terms of service, or any abuse, but because their idiotic automated system gets triggered over a pattern that is not actually spamming or abuse. They terminate your servers because the Cloudways system is malfunctioning. So your entire business will be sobotaged because Cloudways has a malfunctioning system to detect abuse and spam.

If you don't want to destroy your business, NEVER host with Cloudways. It is the worst possible mistake you can ever make.

If you are a serious digital agency or business looking for a web host, Cloudways is the worst possible platform to host on.

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a web hosting service provider

  ### 4. Please read this before you use the Cloudways server.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shahram S. | Handmade, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 26, 2024

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

I must write this review because I don't want you to go through a terrible experience or spend a lot of money on this server.

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

At first, I used A2 Hosting for many years and was very happy with it, but my website loaded a little slowly. So, I read some reviews about Cloudways, and several CMS platforms recommended using this server. I decided to hire a developer to transfer all my data from A2 Hosting to Cloudways. Initially, it seemed much better, and my website loaded faster. However, after the server updated its firmware, my website crashed, and all my product posts disappeared. I was unable to load my website, and their tech support could not fix it, so I had to hire a developer to resolve the issue, spending a lot of money—thousands of dollars—to get my website up and running again.

Then, after a few months, my credit card was stolen, causing a missed payment of only 5-7 days. The server suspended my account. Once I got a new credit card and made the payment, my account was reactivated, but my website crashed again and was unable to load. Tech support could not fix the issue and told me I needed to hire a developer again. I felt like I had spent so much money, and I questioned the point of using this server since they continued to have issues that messed up my business. I had never experienced anything like this with other servers; when issues arose, they were able to restore my site to normal functioning. However, this server could not restore my website, and all my data was gone. They just kept telling me to hire a developer.

I have to spend money again to fix it. This has been a terrible experience.

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CloudWays tech support cannot solve my issues after they caused my website to crash.

**Official Response from Shams Abro:**

> We are truly sorry to hear about your negative experience with Cloudways. We understand the frustration and inconvenience this has caused you.

We would like to investigate this matter further to understand what went wrong and how we can improve your experience. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we take it seriously.

  ### 5. Lack of transparency and appropriate customer service

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2024

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

I used to appreciate that there's a lot of customer support, but they have been unresponsive regarding a promised gift card, which I never asked for and without which I would have still given a positive review, but they haven't handled that well, so I'm changing my review.

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

Lack of transparency and appropriate customer service regarding offering gift cards for an obnoxiously long review process.

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hosting multiple websites on one service and not charging too much.

  ### 6. Unjustified Charges for AutoScale Plan - Request for Refund (Invoice #4112485)

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Felipe O. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

Pricing and ease of usage and migration of websites.

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

Dear Cloudways Support Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction and concern regarding the charges incurred on my account for the AutoScale plan, despite not utilizing any resources during the specified billing period.

My account is associated with the invoice number #4112485, and upon reviewing my billing statement, I was dismayed to discover that I have been consistently billed for the AutoScale plan, even though my website has not been utilizing any resources that warrant such charges.

It is disconcerting that the process for unsubscribing or modifying the subscription plan is not clear, and this lack of transparency has resulted in unwarranted financial implications for me. As a customer, I expect to have a clear and straightforward method for managing my subscription and ensuring that I am only charged for the services I actively use.

I kindly request that you investigate this matter promptly and provide a thorough explanation as to why I have been charged for the AutoScale plan despite the absence of resource utilization on my end. Additionally, I am seeking an immediate refund for the charges incurred erroneously.

I value the services provided by Cloudways and have appreciated the convenience it has brought to my hosting needs. However, this billing discrepancy has eroded my confidence in the service, and I trust that you will address this matter promptly and with the utmost urgency.

Please acknowledge the receipt of this complaint at your earliest convenience and provide a timeline for resolution. I believe in a swift and amicable resolution to this matter and look forward to your prompt response.

Thank you for your attention to this pressing issue.

Sincerely,
Felipe Oliveira

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is not solving anything.

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Frenkly they are just proving a managed hosting service in a cost of doubled as compare to the origanal servers.

  ### 8. Received email with the subject "Verify Your Identity

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** layla m. | senior manager, Market Research, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 09, 2024

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

Recently, I tried to access my Cloudways account, but I encountered difficulties and am currently unable to log in.

PHP performance monitoring is efficiently carried out using Cloudways in my professional Expirance.

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

Cloudways is a hosting provider, and I am puzzled why they are asking me to share my government-issued ID. It concerns me as it affects my privacy.

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

When I checked my email, I was shocked to discover that my account was disabled. The message requested that I share my card details and a photo ID.

**Official Response from Marium Idrees:**

> Hello Layla! Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We've noted your concerns regarding the account access process.

Please know that we take privacy and security seriously, and the request for verification is a part of our standard procedure to ensure the safety of our users' accounts. However, we understand your frustration and have forwarded your feedback to our team for further review.

  ### 9. I can't find another word: They stole my money twice

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Diego C. | Editor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 12, 2023

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

I can't say anything good about them, they just cheat and they stole my money and they don't care about me at all.

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

Cloudways is not pay as you go, it is a deceptive way to attract your customers. My credit card has been charged twice for a server I HAVE NOT USED at all. They charged 150 usd, that is, they stole 150 usd from me and I did not use their servers.

I requested a refund and they said they wouldn't do it because they don't really charge for use, they charge you for days, whether you use it or not. That doesn't make any sense in a pay-as-you-go system.

Customer service is simply interested in capturing "money" not customers. They don't care at all about my explanation and my return request.

It is very sad to have to pay for a service that you did not use.

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Cloudways does not solve any problem. He gave me a big problem. They stole my money.

**Official Response from Marium Idrees:**

> Hello Diego, thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We have thoroughly investigated the matter and would like to clarify our billing policy to avoid any confusion.

At Cloudways, we operate on a billing system where charges are based on the number of days the server is active, regardless of the actual usage. This means that as long as the server remains active, the allocated hardware resources (CPU, RAM, Disk space, and IP address) continue to be available, leading to charges.

Our Customer Success Manager did communicate this billing approach clearly when you expressed your concerns. However, we understand that it might not align with your expectations of a traditional "pay-as-you-go" model, and we regret any inconvenience caused.

To assist our customers in managing their billing effectively, we have published a knowledge base article that explains how to halt the billing process for servers that are not in use. You can find the article here: https://support.cloudways.com/en/articles/5119650-how-do-i-stop-my-cloudways-billing

We value your feedback, and it is essential for us to ensure our customers have a clear understanding of our services. We strive to provide exceptional support and assistance to all our clients.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or need assistance. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to continuing to serve you.

  ### 10. From CPanel to Cloudways (updated after one year)

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Design | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2022

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

Cloudways support is TOTAL UTTER CRAP. Don't get me wrong, every agent you'll talk to is nice and professional, but if throw even a slightly difficult issue at them, prepare to get a run around for more than month. You will be totally ignored over and over and over. It feels like I've entered the twilight zone, where nobody at cloudways I talk to are real human beings, just a bunch of people doing their jobs.

Don't be fooled by a few pagespeed and gtmetrix tests or a few dozen visits to your sites hosted with cloudways.... The consistency of website performance is ATROCIOUS!!!!!! it is all over the map.

And to keep be websites running and running normally is so increddibly time consuming with cloudways. I've been trapped by the "prices are good" for too long, and am now literally going insane.

Below is my review given afer one month

It has been one month since I started moving sites over from my cpanel based provider to Cloudways. It isn't all positives. But the most important positive so far outweigh the negatives.

The biggest positive is when I move client sites to Cloudways / Vultr they run A LOT faster in real-life experience (average improvement of 5 seconds... from 8 seconds with HUGE variation to 2.5 seconds and tight variation). These results are true across the country, where I ask my client to open both versions of their site in incognito and simply count to see how long it takes the site to open. Real life desktop and mobile experimentation. Can't beat it.

The problem is... on Google's page speed test on pagespeed.web.dev, Cloudways performs A LOT worse. For the same desktop site cloudways scored a 69 on the Google speed test while my old provider got a 96, and for the same mobile site cloudways scored a 29, and my old provider a 69 (69 for mobile is actually very good compared to any and every website you can find). To give you proper perspective Amazon.com just scored a 56 on mobile performance on Google's page speed test, and a 69 on their desktop speed test. Amazon doesn't seem to care about optimizing their sites for Google's speed test, yet Amazon's pages open wicked fast.

It has taken me two years to realize that the speed tests don't match reality at all. Not even close. I believed them like an idiot. With my old provider I would see 1.1 second desktop load times on GT Metrix and get a useless dopamine hit. I never checked the reality, where the site would sometimes take 1.1 seconds and sometimes 8 to 12 seconds to load on both desktop and mobile! the variation was unreal, and the average load time which I think once upon time was in the 3 to 4 second range has stretch to the 8 second range. DO NOT TRUST SPEED TESTS ALONE! However they are interesting for comparing the exact same website from the same location, but different locations, and for benchmarking.

So I have to choose between the real customer experience or BS speed tests. I am going to go with the experience. That said I am still nervous that Google's official speed test meanst that by moving to Cloudways I will impact SEO negatively. I haven't devised a way to test whether this is the case, but plan to do so before I move all sites over.

The real customer experience though is so compelling, that I am going to spend the time necessary to see if Cloudways can trick Google like it appears my other provider has.

The biggest forseeable negative with Cloudways is... You lose a lot of control that you get through CPanel. For example, no more email forwarders, something I love! I also love that I can troubleshoot easily through php myadmin, and file manager when there are conflicting plugins. Soemthing I deal with a lot for WordPress. So I may just keep DNS records with a CPanel provider, and see if there is a way to get some of the functionality I like in CPanel for a minimal cost. while running the sites on Cloudways. Obviously I will lose some functionality.

Last thing... Cloudways like most other providers does automatically back up sites and keep the backups for a week. If you check on your sites at least once a week, then you should be good.

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

See the what I like section, which has what I dislike. The jury is still out, and i could come back in and change my rating.

Their support is something like I imagine hell would be like. It's hard to explain... but the only thing worse than somebody intentionally screwing you, is somebody who feels like they are being nice and say they'll help you, and then provide response after response after response after response after response after response that isn't helpful. Spending hours and literally getting nowhere.

**Recommendations to others considering Cloudways:**

Do it. Nothing to lose to run identical sites side by side for a month, to give you plenty of time to compare your old provider with your new one.

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

they appeared to be solving a pain point for me, but it has been hell. They have literally kicked tha shit out of me. I'm so worn out trying to make it work because I think I can ge the best while paying less than a tenth what top tier host companies offer. So I'm partly to blame. I guess expected too much for what clouways charges.

**Official Response from Marium Idrees:**

> Hello there! We appreciate you taking the time to share your recent experience with us. We understand your frustrations regarding the challenges you faced and the discrepancies in performance testing.

  ### 13. Misleading pricing

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 18, 2023

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

The live chat support is helpful for the most part.

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

Utterly misleading pricing. You'll be charged even with cloned inactive servers (which their support doesn't disclose while cloning). You end up paying for resources you didn't ever use. The support should disclose that even inactive servers with an under-construction site hidden from the general public / search engines & no traffic being sent to it will cost $97/mo.

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Tried Cloudways Cloud hosting. Back to dedicated.

  ### 14. Fast servers, Worst Support I've seen, No access to server configurations

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 13, 2022

**What do you like best about Cloudways?**

Fast servers, only slow when your hit with bots. They have some features to overcome this, but I had to use Cloudflare and purchase more CPU/memory to overcome slow issues caused by bots

**What do you dislike about Cloudways?**

Cloudways had the most inexperienced Support I've seen out of 4-5 different hosting companies i used, most staff are like interns...they have no idea and just push you to help docs or blame your software for issues...and I think they want you to purchase one of the support plans...
also, you don't have direct access to the server either so you can't make changes yourself
Also Even though I've cancelled my hosting they're still billing my credit card and because I've cancelled my account i cant log in to lodge a support ticket to billing...seriously what's wrong with these companies

**What problems is Cloudways solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It benefited me with some speed compared to Cpanel on knownhost, however I've cancelled and gone directly to Vultr.com for much better control, and cheaper servers.
use free Gridpane or free Plesk to manage your own server, easy to do
