Great Way to Interview Software Developers **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** John D. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2020 **What do you like best about CleverYak?** I love the way that I can have a video interview, shared coding space, and notes together in one place. After the interview, all of this information is combined into a summary which makes it very easy to see everything that happened during the interview. I especially like that the notes that I take during interviews are placed along the video timeline so that I can quickly jump to parts of the interview that interested me at the time. The video quality was also very good! **What do you dislike about CleverYak?** There wasn't much built-in training to help me learn the features of the product when I conducted my first interview. That said, I was able to learn the key features by exploring the interface for a few minutes, and once I did that, everything was simple! **What problems is CleverYak solving and how is that benefiting you?** We were hiring for a backend software developer position, and needed a good way to conduct these interviews remotely. I have done software interviews by phone and plain video call before, but CleverYak was a huge improvement over those. ### 2. Also, having other team members review the interview is key in making sure we are making the right choices. This is also a useful feature for training purposes. Another thing I like very much is that there is no download needed, so when sending links to candidates there isn't a long explanation needed. Lastly, the team are really reactive when reporting something or if I have a question. **What do you dislike about CleverYak?** Sometimes there are some minor glitches which result in patchy video or sound - but to be fair, most times it's likely down to the internet connection of the user or their equipment. Another con is that there are actually a lot of features which I don't have time to properly explore/keep track of since new things are being added all the time! **What problems is CleverYak solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our team being structured as it is, we often cannot dedicate/organise the necessary people to being on a call at exactly the same time. CleverYak has freed up valuable time for some to join in the recruitment process when it suits best for their busy calendars. It has also created the possibility to review things with time and a clear head - which is a really big benefit. ### 3. Helps to streamline the recruitment process right from the start. The collaborative possibilities make it a very interesting tool allowing multiple remote team members to partake in the process without the need of physical presence. Time gained trough a lean and easy understandable usage allowing a proper follow up of interviewed candidates. **What do you dislike about CleverYak?** Initial connectivity issues making some of the interviews delay or cut off - these were promptly followed up and resolved by the Cleveryak team (same day problem resolution) **Recommendations to others considering CleverYak:** You'll be mostly positively surprised by the ease of use and reactivity of the support team in case of questions. **What problems is CleverYak solving and how is that benefiting you?** Gain time trough a possibility to have a qualitatively high, real-time first candidate contact while recruiting without the need to be physically present. Collaborative functions as well as the saving of the recordings allow an asynchronous post-processing and analysis of each and every recruitment interview done - allowing the involvement of more team members and assuring a better outcome of recruitment decisions ### 4. Also the fact that the CleverYak support was super reactive and offered to adapt the software to our needs was really great. The call quality was as good as any other tool and the functionalities are just amazing for recruiting. **What do you dislike about CleverYak?** The fact that I couldn't adjust my time tags after the call was a bit annoying as I wanted to "prepare" the recording of the call for my superior and I wanted to place the tags at the exact right moment for him to jump to. This was not possible in the current version. Also the design is quite dark and feels a bit heavy but I suppose this is just personal preference. **Recommendations to others considering CleverYak:** I suggest that if you consider using CleverYak, that you reach out to their support to help you implement it. Not because the tool is difficult or complicated to use but because they can immediately help you to integrate it in your work flow or other existing recruitment tracking tools you're using. **What problems is CleverYak solving and how is that benefiting you?** My manager doesn't have to participate in interviews and by using the recording, he can still review the candidate at his own convenience. The recruitment process was lightened and I could do more interviews in a short time period as I didn't have to coordinate with my manager's availabilites. And we found a candidate to hire so the job was completed ;) ### 5. Dutch **Recommendations to others considering CleverYak:** Very nice tool to organize hassle free online interviews. Quick and very intuitive implementation. All-in one : notes, recording, shares, testing, reports, interviewers comments. Very useful keyword search to move to the concerned recorded part Great reporting **What problems is CleverYak solving and how is that benefiting you?** Online interviewing is more user-friendly for both interviewer and candidate. No hassle to log in and all info is safely and centrally stored, available for peer recruiters in the company . Clear notes in private and shared mode. Amazing to be able to go back to the recorded place based on a keyword search. Time saving and fun to use. Quick reporting that could be extended as a performance mgt tool ### 6.
