The constant updates. The selections tab, we are a custom home builder and do not have standard selections for every job so we cannot just auto populate. Also it doesn't print well at all. Edit in excel / word sometimes fails and you lose EVERYTHING! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The worst part of this platform is the limited capabilities of the finance section. Allow the users with a limited service contract the ability to Run Cost reports that are as friendly as the rest of the system. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

All of the areas like warranty, change orders, and a main folder to keep docs - I love how you can easily manage documents and work orders along with having photos in a separate folder, etc. to be organized but also have everything in the same place. Another big thing I love about BT is the customer service - if I ever have a question or issue they are always on top of helping get it resolved & answered within minutes. The app is also a great part of this platform because we have so many crews running around in the field and without a computer for most of the day, but the app make it easy to access every job and post updates on the go. I truly can't say I have any negative things to say about BT. We don't have our system integrated with Quickbooks because of a technical issue that happened a few years ago, but that would be the only thing I can think of. I recently started using Buildertrend for a construction project, and I have to say, I'm impressed. The platform has made a huge difference in how I manage my projects. What I love most about Buildertrend is how user-friendly it is. It's so easy to navigate and find exactly what I need.

The real-time updates and scheduling features have been a game-changer for me. I no longer have to constantly check in with my team to see what's happening with the project. Instead, I can log into Buildertrend and see everything in one place. The collaboration features are also fantastic. Learning curve: While the platform is user-friendly, there is a learning curve to getting used to all the features and functions. This may take some time and require training for new users.

The software update at the end of last year really messed everything up. There is no auto-save; then, when you press save five times and try to close a window, it still says there are unsaved changes. There are no shortcut keys for save, ok, cancel, NO CTRL F, so much time is wasted scrolling through the windows. Windows aren't movable or resizeable, which makes it very hard to navigate. This is especially frustrating when editing online documents through buildertrend. The window the document pops up in can't be resized so many of the right click menu options cant be used when the menu is longer than the window. Documents are not available to view off line. Columns in the estimate and budget tabs are not resizeable, and the order can't be changed so there is more scrolling from side to side if you have a mouse that does that. If you don't have a scroll wheel that goes side to side have to scrool to bottom of the big window to use the small window scroll bar then scroll back up to the line item you were looking at then scroll back down to scroll back to left to keep working.

The format of the proposals used to be very streamlined and easy to customize to how we wanted it to look. Now there is no way to show the totals of sub groups or to even make sub groups at all, and the formatting of the line items is big, bulky, looks terrible and can't be customized! When items are linked to square, you can't change any of the numbers or text from the BT side, making it impossible to adjust the wording or totals in a proposal easily. When you do go to update things in square and then sync it back to BT it creates duplicate items that have to be individually deleted one by one.

The old buildertrend worked alright; this new builder trend has only taken away functions the old one had, and what was added doesn't work well. The only thing that seems usable is the TODOs for our field crews, but there are no TODOs for the estimating/office people. Our subs and vendors don't use buildertrend so all the fancy communication and scheduling things for them are never used. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Easily organizes budgets and POs. The schedule function is excellent, but it would be nice to be able to create a schedule in leads/proposals for new jobs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I would like a balance shown when making POs so that the foreman can easily see if the PO they are making will exceed the allowance in the budget for that item. Better yet if a PO is going to exceed the budget line item, a notification is sent to the PM for approval before the PO can be made. Better yet any overages in budget line items could auto-populate to CO that the PM could then write the description for to send to a client for approval if required. The other function that would be nice is to have schedule changes be able to auto-populate into a change order for client approval if required. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It provides everything a typical construction company needs (whether it be residential or commercial, GC or sub); POs and bills/invoices are easy to enter and track, reports are customizable and have so many options to see exactly what you need/want to see, the platform is extremely user friendly (which makes training guys in the field a breeze; a platform can be amazing but if it's not user friendly and your PMs, supers, subs, etc. won't USE it because it's complex, it doesn't matter how amazing it is or what it offers). Their support team is amazing, and set up is - generally - pretty simply. I love that they integrate Home Depot Pro accounts and QuickBooks, it helps reduce extra work entering things in multiple times. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I've only run into one factor I do not like, and this likely doesn't apply to the vast majority of users, but there's no way to track multiple pay rates (I freelance for several construction companies in addition to working FT for one, and the company I work for is union - we pay straight time, time and a half, and double time). All of my freelance clients use BuilderTrend, but my employer decided not to stick with it solely because of the time management not being compatible for multiple pay rates for multiple projects (at any given time, our guys could work on 3-4 projects a week that each have 10+ cost codes and 3 different pay rates, so it IS definitely more complex than most). BuilderTrend has the flexibility to achieve an end-to-end solution for residential project management. As a robust user of BT, we use all tabs except the Sales tab. We utilize the BuilderTrend for client communications through owner invoicing, change orders, messaging and file sharing, thus giving the homeowner a greater sense of ownership from day one. We utilize the financials for our bid package to PO to vendor/sub payments in conjunction with our multiple phase schedules. We have broken down the schedule management piece into phases allowing more effortless schedule shifting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Some of the obstacles we have encountered using BuilderTrend, we have easily created a workaround by having a greater understanding of its capabilities and utilizing a help desk member. One of these obstacles includes adding internal users to Change Orders; however, we created a sub/vendor card for internal users to solve this issue. Another challenge has been the lack of the ability to select which owner invoices the owner can see. This is a challenge in today's home sales climate, where buyers may back out of a sale, and a new buyer can see a previous buyer's owner invoice. In an effort to balance the BT budget and keep the financial history intact, we have created a cost code that does not map to QuickBooks, but allows us to reconcile the new budget for the current buyer. The program provides a user-friendly experience through easy navigation, and with a clear and pleasant user interface, you won't be able to miss a detail when using this app. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

There are quirks in using this app that I have noticed. First, when you are using the app along with the others within the organization, it tends to get sluggish, so working together gives a very noticeable lag. Secondly, you cannot open two buildertrend tabs at the same time because it messes your workflow by not saving the changes you have made from one tab to another.
